Response to Jim Carrey's Song
— Ace

Pretty good!

And welcome back, commenters! After the comments were down for two hours, I started to wig out -- without interaction, this site is pretty dead. Plus, as I was the only one talking (well, and Drew and Maetenloch), I became suddenly aware of the silence and realized, "Shit, I have to work. I have to post stuff."

Also a big welcome back to Albie Damned, who I'm told is out of surgery and now able to play in the comments again!

Congrats Albie.

I had some epic comments to make during the "GREAT BLACKOUT OF 2013" (tm) (f you weather channel), all lost to history.

But seriously guys, see Alfonzo's PJTV response to Nesbitt.

87 Just before the 2010 Midterm election, I was on the front page of the local newspaper for my political volunteer work and my teachers noticed. One of my seven teachers made it very clear that she dissaproved of my civic engagement. In a period of two months, my Geography teacher frequently would take me aside after school for a few minutes and tell me how stupid, wrong and misguided I was for being Republican. The harassment with this specific teacher got so bad, I had to switch schools halfway through the year. At this time I was only 12 years old. To my knowledge, this teacher was not disciplined at all for her actions.

99 For Roman Catholics, Lent ends this evening with the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper, and the Triduum begins.  There is no Mass on Good Friday, and it is a day of fasting and abstinence.  Sean Bannion can correct me if I'm wrong.

100 Lent in 2013 will start on Wednesday, the 13th of February and will continue for 46 days until Saturday, the 30th of March. In Western Christianity Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Holy Saturday. The six Sundays in Lent are not counted among the forty days of lent because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter", a celebration of Jesus' victory over sin and death.

111 My theory on celebrities:

They spend a large portion of their lives getting smoke blown up their ass for just how literally awesome they are, all while pretending to be someone else, getting fed thoughts, feelings and dialogue.

As they age, they start to think that people are actually interested in what THEY have to say, all the while they've had fewer and fewer personal thoughts the more roles they play and can't remember whether they're them or someone they played on TV.

The fact that actions have had no consequences for a vast majority of their lives, they say and do whatever they want and will be rewarded for it regardless.

They're children of the corn, but different.

Common misconception. If you have a sacrifice for lent, e.g. gave up video games. That remains in effect on Sunday. If you have a fast for lent, e.g. gave up steak, it would be inappropriate to observe it on Sunday, as every Sunday during lent is a feast day. Lent continues unabated through the Sundays, it is only sacrifices which involve a nutritious element that should not be observed.

Oh by the way. Your sacrifice or devotion is totally between you and God.

156 That liturgy is done on Good friday or sometimes after the Holy Communion on Thursday. When the lights are extinquished one by one it is called a "Tenebrae service: The word "tenebrae" comes from the Latin meaning "darkness." The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial. This increasing darkness symbolizes the approaching darkness of Jesus' death and of hopelessness in the world without God. The service concludes in darkness, sometimes with a final candle, the Christ candle, carried out of the sanctuary, symbolizing the death of Jesus. A loud noise may also sound symbolizing the closing of Jesus' tomb. The worshipers then leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ's death and await the coming Resurrection.

170 When do y'all do the liturgy where everything's draped in black, no candles or flowers, and they read Jesus' last words, and kill the lights after "it is finished" and everyone walks out silently, mourning? Well, there is a tradition in some parishes involving the last words of Jesus. Usually this is done right before the beginning of the Good Friday liturgy. This is not done everywhere. The Good Friday liturgy, as it is not technically a Mass, begins and ends silently with Priests processing in (and then out). It is a continuation of the Holy Thursday Mass, and is concluded with the Easter Vigil.

188 >>>Or just not eat meat. In fact we don't eat much of anything - it's a day of fasting. Of course Catholic "fasting" means eating one full meal and two smaller meals. Such a burden.

The actual cannon is "one meal"
with stipulations that IF for the sake of safety or health you need to have a snack to clear away the dizzies you can have up to two snacks. But only insomuch as it is required to keep you alive and safe. If you are just eating because you are hungry you are wrong. If you are about to space out and do something dangerous that might result in harm to yourself or others, have a snack.

This is also the time for Baron Samedi [Baron Saturday] the voodoun Lua. The belief is that while Christ is in the afterlife and Hell rescuing souls, the Devil rules the earth for a day.

Root Canal isn't  really expensive when you consider what is being done.

A vasectomy is expensive.  You could do that shit yourself.   No reason anyone should charge more than $40 for a vasectomy.

Regarding bleeped "motherfuckers"......

Watching "Rounders" on the semi-cable networks like FX is one of my favorite TV experiences. Mostly because I get to see a bunch of Jersey cops beat the shit out of Damon and Norton.

The other thing is, they bleep out every "motherfucker" in the film, but they leave in several instances of John Malkovich saying "yob tvoyu mat"......which is Russian for "fuck your mother". Gets me laughing every time.

Of course, I have to suspend my disbelief to imagine little Matty Damon as a stone-cold poker thug. Really?

303 RE: cost of root canals

My DW is a dentist, and here's how it works.

1. They have to drill out, not just a cavity, but the entire root structure of the tooth, leaving the dentin and enamel shell.

2. Then they have to build up the interior somehow (posts and so forth, not to sure about this, she said it depends on what tooth it is and what is wrong with it...)

3.Then they have to cap it off.

So it's like getting a filling for your whole tooth.

Also it's so much cheaper to just remove the tooth... just sayin'

The dentist then stepped up and pulled the tooth. I almost said - did you think I was going to flee after the tooth is pulled? But there was a guy standing there with pliers so I thought I better not piss him off.

We have one person faint every Pascha; sometimes it's a lady, sometimes it's a kid. Once it was one of the acolytes, carrying a metal fan. I guess the combination of the fasting going on Holy Saturday combined with standing for around 3 hours (with a bit of walking for a procession) really brings of the faint.

358 At my niece's wedding the best man fell over in the middle of the service. The groom was very cool about it. He waved at everyone and two guys helped him out of the church. In about five minutes, back to the service like nothing happened. None of them had been asleep the night before.

..........
I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled at the Univ of Illinois dental school where I worked.  Holy crap!

The instructor had a thick German accent, and I think this guy first practiced at Auschwitz.  He used my lip as a fulcrum and all the while he's talking to the students and they're dipping in for a close-in look see.. That was the last time I went there.. free or not.. it wasn't worth it!

Ace,

That wasn't 'pretty good'.

That was fucking hilarious! I watched it twice back to back.

AND that was the kind of rich parody that Carrey utterly failed to achieve in his video.

Granted, the audio and visual production values weren't near as high as Carrey's vicious video. But they were decent enough. And the montage-editing in particular demonstrated excellent comedic timing.

But above all, the whole product - unlike Carrey's - was outright funny! (While being a damning indictment of that pompous Ass Carrey to boot.)

When Carrey sees that clip, he'll have to pretend like he's not envious of the superior comedic product - as well as pretend he's not resentful of being butt of the joke that he ironically set up.

I only wish I could see his stupid face watching his stupid face in that awesome video.

Yes, it was even funnier the third time I saw it.

Just anticipating Carrey spinning around and talking out his ass in coordination with the lyrics was too much.

Three times out loud. - Too rich.

367 My wife is catholic and the wedding day was 100 degrees. I commented something about it being hot  to the priest when I was backstage waiting to go in. He showed me how he did it, just flipped up his robe and all he had on were boxer shorts. He turned up at the church we go to now filling in one day and talks rather gay now.

By the way, the name of the guy who made the response video is Remy Munasifi. He is featured prominently on ReasonTV, and he has his own YouTube Channel. Apparently he's a young professional comedian who has been making parody videos for some years now. He is very funny, and his humor leans heavily libertarian / right of center.

Google: Remy's Occupy Wall Street Protest Song.

- At first it seems like it's going to suck, but give at least a minute and a half. It gets awesome.

Shame on me for never having heard of this guy before. We need more like him and more of his satire.

369 AWESOME video! So true! Jim Carrey and all hollywood types should look in the mirror. Jim should go back to Canada, and give America back all the money he stole from us with his goofy movies.
