— Ace On one hand, it could be quite cold and dreary, and food would be more expensive.
On the other hand, some of us will be warmed by gloating, and we'll all get into tremendous shape doing victory dances once a day.
Solar activity follows different cycles, including an 11-year cycle, a 90-year cycle and a 200-year cycle. Yuri Nagovitsyn comments.“Evidently, solar activity is on the decrease. The 11-year cycle doesn’t bring about considerable climate change – only 1-2%. The impact of the 200-year cycle is greater – up to 50%. In this respect, we could be in for a cooling period that lasts 200-250 years. The period of low solar activity could start in 2030-2040 but it won’t be as pervasive as in the late 17th century”.
Best comment ever:
If only there was some natural source for variations in the earth's temperature. The source of such variation would have to be large, though: on an order of magnitude of our own Sun.

actually I have noticed an uptick in polyester in clothing lately, since the cotton market is screwed they seem to be mixing a lot of polyester into shirts that used to be 100% cotton.
So yes, yes, I believe we will get polyester leisure suits back. They go so nicely with the maxi-skirt I have in my closet.

I turned a heater on at least once in each of Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar. Nothing so far in April.
That's the longest "heating season" I've ever seen in Palm Beach and I've been here since the mid 80's.
If I lived 30 miles more north near the Palm Beach border, I'd have a check mark for April too.

Ryan Secrest is taller than Anto Chighur. It'd be hard for him to impale Seacrest's forehead with that captive bolt-gun.

- Nigel Calder, "In the Grip of a New Ice Age." International Wildlife, July 1975
"The sensitivity of climate was pointed up independently by a Soviet and an American scientist, who concluded that a permanent drop of only 1.6 to 2 percent in (solar) energy reaching the earth 'would lead to an unstable condition in which continental snow cover would advance to the Equator ... [and] the oceans would eventually freeze,' according to a recent U.S. scientific advisory report."
- Samuel W. Matthews, "What's Happening to Our Climate?" National Geographic, November 1976.

Still suggesting that people go to YouTube and read The Cloud Mystery. I also suggest the book "The Chilling Stars."
I hope we can still get the coal mines operating, because we will need them.

You need to speak up more often. You always have valid things to say.

Still the best thing ever written on the intertubes:
"It's a shame there isn't some natural phenomenon that could explain changes in the Earth's temperature. Such an object/force would have to be enormous . . . on the order of our own Sun."

So, I was looking for a period cover and found Time "How to Survive the Coming Ice Age".
Funny enough, but check out the middle headline at the top: "Beyond Detente: Why We Can't Beat the Soviets"
