— Ace What the hell, Paul Ryan.
Senate Republicans scrubbing the Ryan-Murray budget deal have come across a little-noticed provision that will limit the GOP’s ability to block tax increases in future years. The bill includes language from the Senate Democrats’ budget to void a budget “point of order” against replacing the sequester cuts with tax increases.
The process is quite complicated, but in practice it grants Harry Reid the authority to send tax increases to the House with a bare majority, rather than the 60 vote threshold that would be required under the point of order.
The provision has angered key Republican Senators. Reeling from Harry Reid’s unprecedented use of the “nuclear option” to end the filibuster on presidential nominations, they are incredulous that Paul Ryan would have backed another limit to their power.
“This is an appalling power grab that should never have been allowed to be in a final agreement. It’s essentially the ‘nuclear option’ part two, eroding minority rights in the Senate even further. Harry Reid must be very happy,” a Senate GOP aide says.
A House aide defending this piece of shit says, basically, Eh, it's no big deal, because the House can stop tax increases. Probably.
I don't know what to say.
Thanks to @rdbrewer4.

>>"What the hell, Paul Ryan."
It's like we're in some kind of nightmare. The GOP is now either actively conspiring against us or abetting the Left through stupidity that defies belief. And it keeps getting worse. The worse Obama gets, the more the GOP abases itself. I think the party is psychologically unraveling. They just can't cope with Obama and the massiveness of his assault. They're like a 50's housewife baking cakes and singing to herself while her serial-killer husband drags bodies into the basement.

I'm convinced more and more the GOP simply wants to be a permanent minority loyal 'opposition', ever enjoying the perks of the ruling class and never serious about dismantling the state which brings them their spoils. It will ever be, 'just wait till next time, then we'll get 'em!'
They will push amnesty hard next year, even as Obamacare is destroying the donks, for no real reason other than to thwart their own victory. That way they can blame racist conservatives for losing the easiest mid-term in history, and save Obamacare and all the perks it brings to the DC ruling class.

Aren't we all glad that Romney/Ryan was defeated?
Sure it would've felt good. For a few days or months.
But then they would've started rolling out this crap on us and our disappointment, chagrin and downright red eyed anger might've have ruined 2014 (which might happen anyway) and would've put the cankles in in 2016. (which I think was her hoped for plan all along)
So we may have gotten hit by a snowmobile or two but at least it wasn't like that wreck up in Wisconsin on Sunday. (no not Paul Ryan. A different wreck).
And we have the comfort of knowing we dodged a bullet of RINO that was heading in our direction.
Now let's get down to business of getting John Boehner so far out of politics that he has to use a compass to find his voting station.
And it's time to retire the Turdle McConnell.
Their politics and so called leadership have been responsible for the GOP lousy showing the last 4 years and deserve no more chances.

We are 17.3 Trillion dollars in debt.
We have unfunded liabilities of 100 Trillion.
If you do a simple amortization of our current debt using 30 years as a payoff date, we would have to run balanced budgets and devote 66 billion dollars a month or 800 billion dollars a year just to pay off our debt.
In other words an impossibility.
There is no question that it will burn the only question is when.

They don't go much by party registration anymore except for donations and ads (and you can throw them away when they show up or vent when they call)
What really needs to happen is aggressive lobbying with your local Representative and if rejected (or you know they don't agree) a search for a candidate to place in the running.
That's the only thing they understand. Those being dicks right now don't fear the primary or are retiring. McConnell's started lying about his "love" for the TEA party exactly BECAUSE he got primaried.

Just got home from the county supervisors meeting and turned on the repeat of Levin. If no one posted from the first run, he has basically declared all-out war on Bonehead. He has also taken to playing the opening bars of "The Tonight Show" with Ed McMahon doing the "Here's Johnny..." before launching into his diatribe.

Now imagine Reps, Senators from similarly "blue" districts, states voting against the wishes of their base this way.
You can't imagine it. Because it never happens.

Anyone they want to put the screws to, they just let them know they have every single phone call, email, and private conversation since 1998.
Remember folks, they can turn your cell phone into a recording device at will.

So rather than attempt some actual remedies (which most likely wouldn't work) and upset the gravy train for those who will survive (the rich and those with international connections i.e. the rich).
OR
They've been told to agitate and aggravate the winger sections of their voting district so as to make some sort of violent reaction more likely down the road a bit but before the actual final curtain.
This is so the infrastructure needed for crowd control and punishment is in place before the rioting takes place.

Plus, think about the practical implications. If tax increases can now be passed with 51 votes...and the GOP wins six seats next year...
What's really happening here is that the groundwork is being laid for 1) the abolition of the filibuster and 2) majority rule in the Senate. And while I'm not in favor of that as a philosophical matter, it's about to benefit the GOP bigtime.

That's all laws really are anyway. An agreement between sovereign individuals to follow certain guidelines and recommendations and the addition of appointing referees to point out errors, out right violations and to seize and punish those CAUGHT doing so.
Since the elite has decided that the law does not apply to them then we should take the same view.
First up, don't file income tax OR don't file accurately. I recommend not filing as that is generally a misdemeanor whereas lying on a tax form is a felony.
Failure to file carries very little chance of excess punishment UNLESS YOU OWE A LOT OF MONEY as it cost them too much to prosecute for too little gain. (IRS agents are graded on the size of the tax they manage to recover.)
The worst you will get will be a letter asking why you haven't filed but the likelihood is that you won't even receive that for a few years.
You'll have to stop any state filings also as they share info with the IRS and compare lists.
The fines are small and unless you are way off in your tax calculations the penalties aren't that much. Plus what if they don't catch you?
This is mainly for those who file single no dependents and have salaried income. If you have self employment income or get 1099's from other orgs, then you may be revealed faster.
Plus who cares it's all gonna burn anyway?

I also usually don't attempt to justify the existence of gravity. That's because I think I don't need to.
It's like you don't see the dialogue in and around the Republican Party gradually growing more conservative, less open to making grand bargains. It's like you don't understand that a decade ago, the Rubios of the world lose to the Crists in aborted primary challenges, and no one has any idea who in the hell is Ted Cruz. Conservatives have made real inroads. They need to continue that process.
Reversing stagnation and curing ossification take time. I never said the process was done, and I never said every Republican was a friend. If you want to throw in the towel on the GOP, then by all means, enjoy Democratic rule.

It needs to be either taken over from within or brushed into Reagan's dustbin of history.

All of the "republicans" in DC have been convinced by the "democrats" in DC that they are in a heap big pile o' trouble with voters. The conservatives are angry at them, so to retain their seats... the republicans must PANDER TO DEMOCRAT VOTERS!!! Because conservatives have given up on them. So they are essentially switching sides mid stream.
Yes, I know this sounds like something out of bizarro land, but really does anyone have a better explanation that does not involve aliens, pods, drugs or incriminating photos?

This is not a fair summary. Your "willing to ignore the progress" clause is familiar to me -- it is the cry of someone in a large, calcified bureaucratic organization, saying "Look at all the change! I swear that glacier actually advanced in the last 5 years!" Your "let the real 'progressives' win" clause is simply deflection. From time to time, parties in this country have been replaced by new parties. The time for that to happen is when the existing parties have ceased to represent the people, and/or ceased to govern responsibly.
What is the Republican solution to the inevitable bankruptcy of the Government? Why did a Republican conspire to slide in this ridiculous provision to make it easier for Democrats to raise taxes? Whom are they representing when they ignore the first, and advocate for the second?

Now Joe was a lot more conservative than the Princess. The establishment repubs both National and Alaska didn't like it a bit that the Princess lost the primary.
They went out of their way to make sure the princess got "her" senate seat back.

@ 380
Then I think you should take a look at the number of Tea-Party backed Senators and Congressmen there are, how many ideas they're putting out there (and getting a response!), and how apoplectic they make a ton of people. Again, ten years ago, this doesn't happen. If you choose not to see that as progress, fine. I do.

I am asserting that the current political system in the USA cannot cut government - any more than the Senate in the ostensibly-Republican Empire of the 4th century could formulate a Gothic Policy.
That is because, in both examples, the true power lies elsewhere; in unelected (and unenumerated) branches of the (real) state. The Imperium in Rome's case; the agencies and the universities in ours.

Do you really think Paul Ryan "sold you out"? Really? Because if you are that stupid, well, you're probably already sporting a hat for the LFCS Party. What likely happened is the Democratic aides (oh, you thought Patty Murray was negotiating herself? That's so cute) told the Ryan group that the language was needed to streamline the vote in the Senate so some nut like Cruz couldn't single-handedly kill the deal and make them all stay over Christmas.
He surely wasn't told it was a Senate rule change, and it might not be. We have only the word of unnamed GOP staffers on that. It might well just apply to this bill.
But instead of researching it or demanding an amendment, you go flying off the handle like idiots.

IÂ’m not sure what being a Republican actually means anymore.
I affiliated with the Republican party because I believe in liberty and small government – I believe in economic and personal liberty and freedom. I thought they (mostly) believed in that too.
But, over my lifetime, both parties have moved leftward. Its so interesting that the values that used to be mainstream are now called ‘extreme’, even by Republicans.
I don’t want to support a party that believes in big government – just a different flavor and brand of big government than the Democrats. And I’m tired of having my values violated and treated contemptuously by people I voted for.
I AM a very practical and pragmatic person – and have supported the more conservative candidate, even though they were not my ideal (I actually voted for John McCain! – but not in the primary). But look at where that’s gotten us – government is huge, they’re trying to run our lives, and they have spent us into ruin. It appears that the pragmatic approach just isn’t working. Time to try something new, I say. Time to stand on first principals.

Dems are unified in always seeking MORE for government, Republicans are divided between those that want more for groups that help them win reelection and conservatives who actually want LESS. One of the reasons that moderate RINOish politicians dominate the House Leadership and the Senate is the incessant fundraising needed to compete with Dems in many states. The more they depend on fundraising for elections, the more these Republicans sell out conservatives to the special interests: thus bailouts for bankers, amnesty, defense contractors, ethanol requirements in fuels, and farming subsidies.
House leaders seek the money to give to other house members's campaigns in threatened districts in order to preserve their majority status.
The Burning continues apace.

It's sort of like putting tire puncture devices on a parking lot for going the wrong way -- the wrong way as far as the Demcrats think.
It should not go unmentioned that the GOP LOSERship is just fine with agreeing to the OCrats keeping a barrier to keep it hard for the GOP to achieve anything that might be considered 'conservative'...
