Safety Nazis: "No Joke Gift For You!" [OregonMuse]]
— Open Blogger

Urban Outfitters halts prescription-themed products. (CNN link).

And here is the letter signed by the Attorneys General of 22 states asking Urban Outfitters to cease selling these dangerous products. Is your state AG among the signatories?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I sleep better at night knowing that I'm protected against nefarious gag merchandise.

How would an attorney know what is fun or humorous?  You have to be human to understand these things.

Is it even imaginable the Urban Outfitters would have refused, saying that they had more respect for people's intelligence than the government and had every right to sell whatever joke product they wanted to and for the marketplace to make the final decision?

"In the United States, we now prescribe enough pain pills to give every man, woman and child one every four hours, around the clock, for three weeks." OSP Says; Here's the problem. The drugs are not strong enough. Apparently People are charged by the pill and not the dose. How do I know this? My Aspies Daughter was prescribed 40MG of something daily. Only the pills don't come in 40 mg. Just 15, 25 and 50. If people are taking that many pain killers we must asked ourselves another question. Why aren't they dead? Heroine users are very attuned to the amount of drugs necessary to achieve their goal while knowing full well a Fuck Up means OD. I say make these pills on the hairy edge of being able to knock out an elephant, that way the idiots that take two or three looking for the promise of bliss will find it, permanently.

I think it's because liberals wear down everyone, like little children who whine, cry, and stomp their feet until one parent just gives in. The Left certainly never stops pushing for their preferred policies. It's how they've incrementally changed U.S. society for the worse, especially over the past five years.

198 I say make these pills on the hairy edge of being able to knock out an elephant, that way the idiots that take two or three looking for the promise of bliss will find it, permanently. Tolerance to a painkiller happens over time. What might kill you isn't a big deal to some. Chronic pain is awful. People with chronic pain often don't mind the chance of overdosing. Lots of time they would prefer death. Break three fingers on your right hand. Clench that hand into a tight fist, now have it feel like that for the rest of your life. The abusers and the doctors who enable them are scum. I hope they all overdose and die. It's because of them that people in real pain get to suffer. And your doctor will get reamed if they proscribe a proper dose. The federal government has guidelines that correlate to absolutely nothing. On the upside, the people staffing these panels are already in place for Obama care. Yay.

225 My doctor friend hates the safety nazi approach to pain meds -- because it leaves people in agony. His attitude is pretty straightforward. Running the risk of having more addicts is worth it to keep suffering people out of pain. Loosening the reins on doctors to prescribe narcotics and heavy duty pain meds will no doubt let addicts abuse the system more ... but the cost of cracking down is people like my friend's mom who broke her hip and was left screaming in agony while the staff had to jump through hoops to determine if she was eligible for more powerful pain meds. She finally got prescribed serious pain meds. And she's probably an addict now. But so what? She's old. With pain meds she can enjoy her family. She can enjoy watching TV or reading a book. Without major pain meds her life is nothing but agony -- to the point of wanting die rather than be in so much pain. Are the pain meds shortening her remaining lifespan? Probably. It's worth it though.

Seriously, though...

I really like Grilled Baby Pok Choi with anything else off the grill.

Slice them in half, lengthwise and toss them with a dressing made of  Soy, Red Chili, Fresh Ginger, Honey/Brown Sugar, and a dash of Rice Wine Vinegar.

Then, grill them with the leaves/greens over a cold spot (or a folded piece of HD Foil).  It's easy to burn the greens, so prep a spot for them.

Start cut side down and as soon as you get nice grill marks on the stalks, flip them over and hit them again with the marinade/dressing.

When you get them right, they are a real treat.   Just be careful not to char the leaves.

268 In pediatrics/neonatal ICU, it is common for the nurses to slip their patients extra. Nurses are required to check each other doses so it's always "the dose is X and I slipped a little extra." They can get away with it because the morphine/demerol is in vials that are shared and not individual doses. I heard of one case and it was a long time ago where some nurses got in trouble for it. The nurses are right there monitoring the patients and are more in tune to their needs than the docs who can't be there all the time.

270 A snippet of what the judge may have to read to the jury: If a substantial majority of your number are in favor of a conviction, those of you who disagree should reconsider whether your doubt is a reasonable one since it appears to make no effective impression upon the minds of the others. On the other hand, if a majority or even a lesser number of you are in favor of an acquittal, the rest of you should ask yourselves again, and most thoughtfully, whether you should accept the weight and sufficiency of evidence which fails to convince your fellow jurors beyond a reasonable doubt. Remember at all times that no juror is expected to give up an honest belief he or she may have as to the weight or effect of the evidence; but, after full deliberation and consideration of the evidence in the case, it is your duty to agree upon a verdict if you can do so. You must also remember that if the evidence in the case fails to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt the Defendant should have your unanimous verdict of Not Guilty. You may be as leisurely in your deliberations as the occasion may require and should take all the time which you may feel is necessary. I will ask now that you retire once again and continue your deliberations with these additional comments in mind to be applied, of course, in conjunction with all of the other instructions I have previously given to you."

To paraphrase the late, great, Dean Barnett (Weekly Standard writer), one is tall and sleek, the other is short and doughy and often sounds like he's just inhaled helium. 292 Posted by: Truck Monkey, Gruntled New Business Owner at July 13, 2013 01:55 PM (jucos) Very similar situation with my late MIL. I didn't post it because I didn't think anyone would believe it. Terminal with a kind of cancer so rare none of the doctors had ever seen it. Less than a month to live. It got to her lungs and she had to be on oxygen constantly but she had gotten to the point where she was clawing at the tube. She was so dried out, I think it hurt her. Anyway, there she lays, nose bleeding, screaming out for air yet wildly pulling out her oxygen tube (and she was less than 90 lbs, so we were afraid to hold her arms too hard) and the hospice nurse said she wished she could give her more morphine, but it was too soon and she didn't want her getting addicted. OMG OMFG. This was 2 1/2 years ago, and I still shaking just thinking about it. I was in the midst of my vestibular neuritis, so I couldn't rise up and crush her throat with my bare hands, but she must have sensed a great disturbance in my force, because she eventually went ahead and gave her more shit. With God as my witness, between that and my BIL (Thor's older brother) a week later telling me to be very careful how I gave her the morphine because if she got too much and OD'd she die an unholy death, I thought I would have a stroke. I sometimes wonder if the Good Lord didn't give me that neuritis because He knew I'd have probably killed two people in less than 10 days if I had been able to walk.

This was an actual nurse; in all fairness, she said it in such a rote manner I wondered if she even realized she'd said it, but lord. I have always felt that the amount of morphine given in most hospices was a kind of de facto euthanasia anyway. I know it relaxes them so they can breathe better, but it also suppresses the breathing impulse or something, doesn't it? And I could care less, I just mean it was surprising to me that it was even an issue.

Anyway, my poor FIL was on one side of her bed wanting me to give her the morphine every other minute because he could not, and I mean he could NOT deal with seeing her suffer, but then my BIL was on the side, telling me to be careful, BE CAREFUL, is it TOO SOON? Because if she OD's, she won't go to Heaven! Hubby was the medical director of a Hospice and I was a chaplain at another. His was in a rural community, mine was in a city. He very much took to heart the palliative aspect of Hospice and this 'they might become addicted' concept wasn't tolerated. The nurses I worked with were more cautious and likely to go slowly when medicating. I think it is a reflection of the community. Of course, then we also had family members stealing patient's narcotics.

328 somenurse, she was pretty lucid right up until the last dose of Ativan and morphine I gave her, at which point her eyes rolled back in her head and she went limp. My FIL and BIL, God bless 'em, were so relieved that she was finally able to relax. And I thought, relaxed hell, she's dead, she just ain't quit breathing yet, but of course I didn't say that, I just sent them to bed. She stopped breathing about three hours later, and then we had all the fun of sitting there with her dead body staring up at us, waiting for them to come get her. Which you would think would be the worst part, but of course the actual worst part is when they come and put her in the body bag. That's my only complain about home hospice. It's awful sitting there like that, then watching them schlep the corpse around. 335 My AG was. Here is the letter I just emailed him- Dear Attorney General Bill Schuette, It has recently come to my attention that you have signed your name to a letter whereby several government entities harass a local clothing store (Urban Outfitters) because you think that free and sovereign citizens will be 'tricked' into thinking that some of their products are honestly prescription medicine. I have gone through the Michigan and United States Constitution looking for passage which gives your office the power to attack businesses because you don't find their jokes funny, and I don't find it in there. The American people are smart enough to get the joke- and it's not your place to make sure they do regardless. Surely there are legitimate and valid affairs that your office could be involved in rather than issues like this. In America, businesses and people are free and have a right to engage in commerce. Several times you have quoted Reagan by saying 'government is best which governs least'- please follow that advice and stay out of business like this in the future. Thank you for your time.
