Saudi's sign up for Syria strike plan
— Purple Avenger

Moral support and participating are two different things, but this WaPo piece suggests the Saudis are willing to participate

...Saudi Arabia has strongly indicated in recent weeks that it would participate in a U.S.-led strike against Syria, but has not said so explicitly...
Its rumored the Saudis have a bunch of Brit Storm Shadow ALCM's(1) that could be launched from their jazzy new Eurofighter Typhoons. The Storm Shadow cruise doesn't have anywhere near the legs the US TLAM(2) variants do, but it hits pretty hard and is a smidge faster. Storm Shadow needs you to get within a hundred miles or so of the target before cutting it loose.

Presumably the Saudis obtained all that trick cruise hardware and Typhoon launch platforms to keep Iran's aspirations at bay. Whether they'd be willing to expend some of it elsewhere is an open question at this point since obtaining it wasn't exactly non-trivial political exercise.

(1) ALCM = Air Launched Cruise Missile
(2) TLAM = Tomahawk Land Attack Missile

Bonus: a classic Boris Johnson rant about Brit swimming pools and how they were installed in response to global warming fears. When Boris stinks, he stinks bad, but when he's on, he's really on. He's in top form this time.

9 They'll need in flight refueling which they have and permission to fly over Iraq. They'll do it if given the opportunity to tell Iran to f-off. Frankly muzzies killing muzzies is fine with me just leave the Christians alone. Moral dilemma for Obarky, raghead on raghead violence. I wonder if the Iranians will use their Air Force to help Assad. Interesting to see Western-Western aircraft battles; not since the Falklands and the Iran-Iraq war.

10 Doesn't active participation open them up to retaliatory strikes against their oil operations?

And oil prices going to brand new heights?

Let's just let the Saudis do this on their own, then.

America is NOT the world's Mommy/Daddy - and even if we are, at some point,  smart parents tell their kids to "work it out among yourselves".

61 Collapse of American Influence Recalls Dis-Integration of Soviet Union, Fall of France By CONRAD BLACK, Special to the Sun | September 7, 2013 Print Send Comment Share Not since the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, and prior to that the fall of France in 1940, has there been so swift an erosion of the world influence of a Great Power as we are witnessing with the United States. What we are witnessing now in the United States, by contrast, is just the backwash of inept policy-making in Washington, and nothing that could not eventually be put right. But for this administration to redeem its credibility now would require a change of direction and method so radical it would be the national equivalent of the comeback of Lazarus: a miraculous revolution in the condition of an individual (President Obama), and a comparable metamorphosis (or a comprehensive replacement) of the astonishingly implausible claque around him. nysun.com

Thanks for asking.
Insert a covert element with sniper capability and secure comms. They get to within a mile of the chem perps and fire. Preferably, you take out the chem perps and all identifiable related targets at the same time, including their children. Remember: these are chem perps.
The snipers miss, they call in the loitering support. Bring down those square miles. Reduce them to dust. Repeat ad lib. Make "firestorm" seem like an admonition from the international "authorities".
Something goes wrong in Syria? Oh oh. So sad. Reduce EVERY twelver target that has ever blipped to a glowing minor chunk in the Earth's gamma ray signature. Repeat for good measure. Make those bitches happy before they go to Hell.

I think the emirates punch above their weight class in influence.  A pipeline from Qatar just happens, rather conveniently, to pass suprisingly close to Bahrain, Dammam, and RasTanura.  Anything that gives the Saudi's a backdoor export method that avoided passing through the straight diminishes Iran's influence dramatically.

In a move to intensify its defense near the Syrian border, Turkey has deployed additional troops and more weapons to the countryÂ’s southeast. Earlier this week, Turkey sent reinforcement to the south amid WashingtonÂ’s calls for a military strike on Syria.

The Turkish military dispatched additional units to Suruc, located in the southern province of Sanlıurfa, on Sunday, TodayÂ’s Zaman reported. According to the report, semi-trailer trucks loaded with armored vehicles and tanks were sent midday from a command post in the southeastern city of Gaziante

But in his recent statement, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan reiterated that Turkey – which has been openly supporting the rebel opposition – was ready to take part in any international coalition against Syria.

“Whether it would be as an opposing force or supplying forces to provide logistical support, all this would be determined by circumstances,” Erdogan said on Sunda

303 The Sauds (OPEC) are for Assads overthrow because he is Putins(Gazprom) boy. As long as Assad is in power, Gazprom has a monopoly on European gas.
Once he is gone, Qatar gets a pipeline to Syria, Turkey,(Jordan gets free gas in the deal), and into Europe to compete with Gazprom.
That's why Bandar was in Russia three weeks ago. He was trying to get Vlads buyoff on the offing of Assad, with the conditions of price-fixing gas in Europe and getting the 'stans back. Vlad told him to 'pound-sand'.

Suddenly, Saudi is willing to pay the freight on USA taking-out Assad.

Let the Saudi princes fight their own fucking war. They have all those nice  F-15s, F-16s, M1A1 Abrams we sold them, as well as the Brit attack-jets.

It gives the ME nations a way to compete with Gazprom for the European market.

I don't know how where Qatar is on actuals vs capacity at this point.

I'm just trying to form an understanding of the players here and group  them . It seems in this one there is no 'us against them'. What a tangled mess this is. NWO indeed.

311 so much for arab spring being about democracy.
or just getting the players into position, maybe?

312 anyway i suspected something funky was up when the red line long spoken of long ago in politics , long forgotten by americans in general had to be forced down all of our throats Now to get  Our Help.

Its not an easy two dimensional ven diagram.  Public presentations are often just for show, and behind the scenes dealings rarely revealed.  More of a n-dimensional thing where actual alliances can shift on a daily basis.

It seems like a bunch of privateers just using politics as a weapon to divide people then use some as tool to get what they want. I guess it has been that way since forever. Silly me I thought the US only had a few bad apples.

yes i used to have a lot of faith in being the good guys.

it's been a horrible awakening for me.
i keep hoping i am being paranoid and we do have good guys just waiting to grab the moment.
however i am losing faith.

319 What is more worrisome than the fact that the United States has an inadequate president, is that the public still accords the incumbent a significant degree of support. If the American people, who have responded to intelligent leadership so often within living memory, has become so morally obtuse that it buys into this flimflam, the problem is more profound than I imagined.

320 if we tap syria lightly . will that be face saving enough?
or is this going to turn into THEE war?

Posted by: willow at September 08, 2013 09:55 PM (nqBYe)

If we attack Syria no matter how lightly, the Russians will have to do something in response. Syria is their ally, so their credibility is on the line in a big way.

And yes I'm thinking more and more profit  driven and less political.  Like you said alliance can shift daily. Those puppet strong men who governed the ME did serve a purpose.

Up on the ONT is a post quoting a retired US General as saying in the recent days he has talked to many military personnel who are either retiring or really confused and disgusted with the whole Syrian boondoggle.. Coup anyone?

ChrisP has it right.
Follow the money (pipeline)

Bandar pissed of Putin with threats about the Olympics and muzzie unrest.

Jugears is owned lock stock and barrel by the Saudis, conventional diplomacy does not apply here.

.....not when you have an unconventional incompetent injecting himself  with habitual community agitation dressed as foreign policy.

Posted by: ontherocks at September 08, 2013 07:52 PM (uIShF)

334 The Saudis and Qataris are the biggest beneficiaries of an American strike on Syria. Qatar gets it natural gas pipeline to Europe and Saudis control ALL energy flow from the Gulf. Since they are the people who will gain from the chemical attacks, logic dictates that they are more than likely the people ultimately behind said attacks. On a further note, there is absolutely zero chance of Putin allowing that pipeline to be installed. Russia would lose way too much money, and more importantly political inluence in Europe, if that were to happen.

Posted by: False Flag Fleabag at September 09, 2013 08:57 AM (ugAvG)

335 Let me get this straight. Obama is willing to go to war for pipelines now? Time to bomb Canada!
