— Ace Another story that the media isn't interested in for transparently obvious reasons.
“He pulled out his gun and started pointing it at people,” Thacker said.Cowan trained a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol at Riden’s face, said Sullivan County Sheriff Wayne Anderson. Carolyn Gudger, the school resource officer, drew her gun, then shielded the principal’s body with her own.
Thacker remembers Cowan shouting something – possibly including the words “10 years” – but she isn’t sure. She turned and ran out the set of public doors to the mulch pile in the front of the school, and hid behind bushes.
“He might shoot someone,” Thacker remembered thinking. “I just wanted to get out of there.”
Riden fled and Gudger inched back into the school, leading Cowan through the scattered pastel chairs in the empty cafeteria. It was a tactical move, meant to lure the gunman into a more contained place, Anderson said.
Gudger, the school resource officer (I called her a "teacher" in the headline just because I do not know what a "resource officer" is and I figure that most people don't either) held the gunman in a standoff for two minutes, until police arrived. After they did, the cops again demanded Cowen drop his gun. He didn't. Shooting broke out (I don't know who shot first, thus the passive voice) and Cowen was killed.

According to Politico the NRA has 100,000 new members since the Sandy Hook murders.
The National Rifle Association has gained more than 100,000 new members in the last 18 days, the organization told POLITICOÂ’s Playbook on Thursday.
The number of paid new members jumped from 4.1 million to 4.2 million in that time frame.

There are literally thousands of "little" stories like this every year - SRO's, off-duty cops, CCW holders, and scared-out-of-their-mind regular folks that use a firearm to save lives in the face of criminal acts. With few exceptions, they are ignored because they don't fit the established media template. It drives me insane.
There is nothing bad enough that can happen to the evil POS producers and blow-dried talking heads that distort reality 24/7 like this.

No, no, no! That's a crazy NRA whacko idea! Maybe the knuckle-draggers in the mountains would have armed guards but they would never, ever do that in the civilized suburbs of the holy city!"
lol, MFM, NORTHERN Virginia, suburb of DC, home to the "suburban sprawl" growth wars, defense contracting beltway bandits, dual income yaddayadda.
We have them at all middle and high schools, and have for some time. Not so much to protect from crazed loons, but because some of the older areas of the county (the few enclaves with any affordable housing) have their problems with illegal immigration (MS13 is big here) and other issues, and the newer areas have a lot of kids with plenty of stuff and not much supervision, so there are drug 9and other issues) in both the "rcih" and the "poor" schools.
Some discussion post-Newtown of extending resource officers into the elementaries now too, which heretofore have not had a constant presence, but have had for years the D.A.R.E. program, a combi-"say no to drugs"/"the deputy is your friend", where a deputy rotates among several schools teaching the course/program.
We have everything from old style Dems, progs, classic repubs, evangelical conservatives, ecofreaks, you name it.
And except for the yearly wrangling on every item in the budget, each of which has their diehard constituencies and detractors, by and large we likes us our resource officers--they're the modern neighborhood cop on the beat.

Uh, Ace. This goes into the memory hole, and is meaningless. There are records of school shootings where students were killed. Officially, records of school shootings that were stopped by a good guy who had a gun are windexed off the radar screen because they don't fit the narrative. A little sarcasm here, you know all this.
If these incidents are brought up by our side, the only significance the incident has whatsoever is that someone who shouldn't have had a gun, did have a gun, thus supporting their position of banning guns.

From the first link:
In a file at the Kingsport General Sessions courthouse, there is a handwritten note by a police detective:
“This is the fellow we discussed,” it reads. “He needs a mental eval.”
The note was written in 2001, after Cowan was charged with stalking. According to court records, a newspaper carrier said that twice he followed her as she drove her route. When she turned, he turned. When she stopped, he stopped.
“At one point, he followed [her] into a driveway and would not let her pull out,” the affidavit reads. “Both instances put [the carrier] in fear as she does not know the defendant.”
The case was later dismissed because a witness did not show up at court.

Most schools implemented School Resource Officers to protect schools from the students. Or in Phila. at least, to keep kids from killing each other. And make drug busts. Assault-on-teacher arrests. etc.
The rest was added post-Columbine. I think the vast majority of high schools have SROs. We're adding some to our middle schools this month (was actually in the works before Newtown.)

Someone probably already said this, but in NY at least, a "School Resource Officer" is a police officer assigned to the school. In city's with problem schools there is usually a police officer assigned to work at the school during the school day. So, it is unlikely this person was a teacher - they were probably a police officer.

Even little kids have a good sense of right and wrong. They seek out an adult who can verify this for them. Failing that influence, they must wait until adolescence. If the proper adult still fails to appear, they must wait until adulthood to have that instinct verfied.
In TFG's case, how he was raised was so bad, he just gave up and is now taking out his childhood frustrations on the entire country. I'll wager that if he were given an emotional maturity test, he'd score as an 8-year-old. This is pathetic in a grown man.

And btw, fun fact for the day: did y'all know the word "nice" means you don't know anything? It means you're ignorant, literally. Back in French to Latin it means you know nothing, that you just agree with what everyone says because you don't have any information of your own because you are too ignorant and/or foolish. Look it up in Webster's. And remember that context the next time someone tells you to "just be nice" or "just don't say anything and be nice," or whatever, and think about the motivation of who is saying it. The goal is usually to silence you and shut down the conversation. It is a guilt trip because if you are not "nice" then what are you? You're "mean if you say those things" you're being hurtful, hateful, whatever. I was guilty of it myself. I would tell my kids to "be nice" all the time. I stopped. Now I use words more directed at the behavior I am seeking, like "be friendly" or "be courteous" "be polite" "be respectful."
