Seems Like Old Times: MSNBC In Ratings Collapse, Down 20% Year-Over-Year

Let's talk about specific names of specific failures. Failure isn't interesting unless it's attached to a human agent of failure. No one ever goofed on an anticipated circular storm for failing to kill people.

The soft start for All In With Chris Hayes has not helped. Hayes, down 32 percent in total viewers from The Ed Show last May, has offered a poor lead-in for MSNBC's primetime flagship, The Rachel Maddow Show, at 9 p.m. The show delivered its lowest-rated month since it debuted in September 2008 (717,000 total viewers) and its second lowest with adults 25-54 (210,000). Maddow was topped by typical time slot victor Sean Hannity and CNN's Piers Morgan.

Chris Hayes' massive throbbing failure has transformed Ed Schultz into a Titan of Broadcasting.

17 I was trapped in a lobby today with MSNBC on and they were playing up that Michele Bachmann was under investigation and she could be charged with something and that was why she was resigning and they were putting her spokesperson in the hot seat in one of those "when did you stop beating your wife" lines of questioning. I was confused by the whole thing and was pretty sure I would come home and check the news and find out that Michele Bachman had done some horrific crime the way they kept making her out to be a criminal.

High level access and favorable PR are worth a lot more than ad revenues to a cable company/media conglomerate like Comcast worth $80 billion.

Look what MSNBC did for GE when they owned it - the CEO got to hang out with the POTUS.

It's all about access and reliable PR spin, otherwise MSNBC would have disappeared a decade ago.

Plus I think the show validates people who really should be getting psychiatric help.

329 Americans are becoming a lot more focused on the scandals in Washington. When both the NYT and the AP flip the bird at the White House, things are getting serious. MSNBC is not serious. CNN has come to the conclusion that it must be more serious. FOX is beating the war drums. It's gonna be one helluva summer.

338 I watched MSNBC last night. A few observations... 1. Unlike CNN or even FOX, there were no guests representing "the other side". Everyone was highly sympathetic to MSNBC's politics, and in total agreement with each other. It was, to put it crudely, a circle jerk. But I figure if three people have the same views, two of them are unnecessary. 2. They spent much of their time downplaying the Obama administration's current scandals. They blamed it on the Republicans even though most mainstream media are covering these scandals extensively and carrying the stories forward. It was crassly partisan, without much regard for the public interest, IMHO. 3. Maddow, O'Donnell, and Hayes all covered pretty much the same stories with slightly different takes. One may as well save time and watch only one of them.
