— Ace Damn you, Devil Sun, and your satanic rays.
Think Progress has the story and the big scoop. (Update: The story is from last August. True, but old.)
WOW. ItÂ’s so hot in Oklahoma that the streetlights are melting. Â…
Meanwhile, a senator from Oklahoma, James Inhofe (R), is a major climate denier.
Progressives are all tweetin' angry at James Inhofe, who obviously Hates Streetlamps. Why don't you try illuminating the street with your Bible, Lite-H8r!
There is one small update to this major, major scoop:
AOh, wait! More information is coming in about that melting street light! It turns out it melted because it was right next to a dumpster fire:
Well that's just nitpicking, isn't it?
Or, as GOB Bluth would say, "Yes, but how did the fire start?"
Or, finally, as the Zimmerman Prosecution's star witness would say: "That is real retarded, Sir."
By the way, FYI, and apropos of nothing, Think Progress is a part of the Center for American Progress' leftist fundraising empire. Specifically its "Center for American Progress Action Fund" organization. Which you can donate to. Because the Center for American
Progress Action Fund is...
... a non-partisan, 501 (c)(4) organization dedicated to achieving progress through action.
Per its website.
thanks to alexthechick.
Urk: The story is true, and Yahoo, naturally, fell for it.
The story is also from last year. Alas, it's old.
Well, it was New To Me (TM).
It's Not Merely Old... But it has, embarrassingly enough, already appeared on the site, when it was far more timely (that is to say, when Andy covered it day-of).
Eesh.
Look, I'm willing to accept blame when it's called for. In this case, though, it's alexthechick's fault.
This was all due to low-level rogue commenters operating out of Cincinnati.
I had noting to do with this. I learned of this from the newspapers, when you did.
Please believe me. This is all I got. I can't dance.

Despite what Dims tell you and the rash effort to whitewash her record just in time for 2016, I think they are about to give the ole girl the shaft one more time–it’s what they do.
The Democrat Party is going to try for another “historic” election, only this time, it’ll be Rubio, who mark my words is going to switch parties and they’ll go for the first “Latino” president–what do you think this emergency push for amnesty is all about especially when the economy is in the crapper.

Aren't streetlights usually made of glass? Like, if it's hot enough to melt them, people and other things would be affected too, right? All over the town, yes? Not just an isolated incident, hm?
I rememeber the story from when it was new, and it was kind of funny. Nice to relive it. The picture is striking, though.

It's less outlandish than Obama's claim that the New York Harbor is 1 foot higher today than 100 yrs ago because of melting ice caps.
First, Obama is probably lying about the rise of the New York Harbor's sea level.
Second, what about the impact of urban development in the last 100 years in NYC? Surely all that land-filling and all those deep foundations and pilings would have a profound effect on the harbor.
But it's simpler for people to just believe what is simple.

I've read that the low-heat LED lights that are being used in streetlights put out so little heat that the lights now ice and snow over, rendering them useless.
Progress, indeed.
I also read somewhere that they're replacing traffic lights with some sort of LED's or other similar high-tech lighting that won't work in cold weather.
Ahh, progress. I don't think that word means what they think it means.

Plastic lamp globes. Okay.
I wonder what temperature those are rated to. If it's, say, 100 degrees for several hours, would they soften? It's not just the temperature at any given time, but how long it stays hot.
This kind of reminds me-- in reverse-- of LED traffic lights in colder climes not working because they emit much much less heat (I presume slightly more than literally none') and thus don't melt snow like incandescents do.

If it comes down to Ace vs. AtC, then, as much as I defend Ewoks as being total badasses who eat theier enemies (even when their prissy-voiced gods tell them not to), wear skulls as hats, and are masters of Hanglider Fu, they kinda suck in single combat.
