— JohnE. This is just sickening. Seven suicide-vest wearing economic terrorist Senators are looking to delay settled law.
Seven Senate Democrats want the White House to postpone parts of the law while contractors and the government work out kinks that have kept many consumers from signing up.I hope MoveOn.org adds this traitors to their sedition petition.West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin is co-sponsoring a bill to delay the $95 penalty for not enrolling.
Six other Democrats up for re-election next year are asking to postpone the March 31 enrollment deadline. They are Sens. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Mark Udall of Colorado, Tom Udall of New Mexico, Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Mark Begich of Alaska and Kay Hagan of North Carolina.

Here's why: even without the mandate, those who need coverage will sign up for it anyway. They will get subsidies if working, most successful enrollees so far are being added to Medicaid rolls. Sick people will enroll and begin increasing the costs. The mandate was designed to force young healthy people into paying premiums to offset those costs. Obama's own estimate was that at least 2.7 million young healthy people out of 7 million enrollees would be required to meet the finance goals.
Without a mandate, there is no reason for healthy people to rush to sign up for expensive coverage. Game, set, match.

Under a system that holds accountability and fidelity to the Constitution as supreme, perhaps.
But under our current system the Pres has the power of the executive to turn things off and on once the money has been authorized.

24 Delaying the individual mandate - which is all they are proposing - means exploding the deficit.
It is my understanding, that those States that created an exchange are liable if the insurance companies beg out. The insurance companies can put the policies back to the state. For the Feds, they have to accept put backs from those states that did not set up an exchange. The cost to the States setting up the exchanges had to accept the new rules for Medicare coverage. So the Prog States may be bankrupt sooner rather than later when Dear Leader's plan hits the dust.

I predicted quite some time ago that (a) when discussing aspects of the new health care law that are popular with the public, Democrats would call it "Obamacare", and (b) that when discussing aspects of the new health care law that are unpopular with the public, Democrats would call it "the Affordable Care Act".
Ever since then, confirming examples have been stacking up.
Last night, the phone rang. It was my liberal Democratic congresscritter, inviting me to listen in to a live virtual town hall meeting where they were going to be discussing -- you guessed it -- "issues with the Affordable Care Act".
Yep. Because there is absolutely no fucking way on God's green earth that they would EVER be implying that "Obamacare" has issues, and hence that there might be questions about the competence of Obama himself. That is a taboo never to be transgressed in liberal ranks. Hence these circumlocutions.
Note also that if a House member in one of the deepest blue districts in Commiefornia is having to do active damage control about this stuff, it means that Democrats in competitive swing districts must have fear-induced diarrhea running down the inside of their pants legs.

If you have no insurance, you're going to be on the hook for a hell of a lot more than $95 if you or any of your family members get sick.

Yep, a top of the line gold plan with minimal deductibles and co-pay. Make one payment to get it started up, get treated, then stop paying.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Oh yeah. I was saying this is probably the only window of time where the leftists wouldn't fight you right off, just legislatively sign off and sneer-laugh at you write some condescending editorials then go to war when the bills come due. It buys you some time.

The real problem is anything that requires continuing care, unless you want to spend every weekend in the ER getting your insulin shots.
k-9 insulin is close enough. I take cash only.

Is there some time standard in the ACA for how quickly an insurance company has to put you on the rolls after you go through the exchange? That could throw a monkey-wrench in that plan.

Yep, and this is why I went to a health savings account plan. It has (this year) a 5000 deductible that I pay after which they pay 100%. That makes all of mine tax deductible. I didn't always meet the 7.5% floor anyway and after you subtract it the amount it added to the itemized deduction was miniscule. (unless you didn't have insurance at all)
The Bill Clinton tax hike is what took that health care costs from 100% to a 7.5% carve out. Shows you right there they never have give a flying shit about people and health care.

"You did tell her that Obama signed that act into law, right?"
I was actually too gobsmacked to do that.
Ace occasionally riffs on how the Horde are very different from the average American. People who spend a big chunk of each day on politically oriented blogs have a good idea about what is going on politically. Average Joes and Janes don't do that and there's often a huge cultural and cognitive disconnect when talking to them.
But, when it suddenly smacks you with the reality club that, wow, this person really has no idea that Obamacare and the ACA _are the same thing_, it still is a bit of a shock of realization that, oh gosh, these sorts of people really do exist.
Even if I had had the presence of mind to point it out to her that the policies for which she voted are now wrecking her life, that is the sort of thing that is hard to do gently. There isn't any way to do that without casting aspersions, and she really was upset and unhappy to begin with.
If she were an unpleasant bitch, I'd have no qualms about saying, "Gee, I guess your being a dumb shit isn't working out too well for you," but she is actually a nice (if uninformed) individual.

Obama shut WWII veterans out of Washington monuments to force "his" people to feel the pain of governmental shutdown.
The Republicans should, likewise, allow no delays: so that "his" people will feel the pain of keeping government open.

But hey, in those days it only cost the $50 deductible. BTW, she wasn't hurt at all other than minor scrapes (she was about 13).
