Sharyl Atkisson: I Think I Know Who Hacked My Computers
— Ace

Yup.

“I think I know. But I’m just not prepared to go into that. We’re continuing our investigations. There are multifaceted looks at what to do next… Let me just say, whoever did it, to come into a private citizen’s home, whether I’m a journalist or not, and look in my family’s computer and look into my work computer… Well, it’s outrageous.”

She's pretty much almost saying "It was the government."

11 College students to Obama:   Investigate Sharyl Attkisson.

Posted by: Mo the Girl at June 17, 2013 05:11 PM (WnQJ3)

12 If it's the Obama Administration, either directly or indirectly, responsible for this hacking of Atkisson's computer, what would be their motivation for taking such a dramatic step that they had to know would put them (and their boss and his administration) in serious political and legal jeopardy? Could it be they were arming the rebels in Libya? The rebels in Syria (with guns confiscated from Libya)? Both? If the motivation for doing it is one or both of these reasons, what do you think happens if the administration is found to be behind it? This is all speculation, as I guess it could be some rogue non-partisan government employee, but it definitely has to be someone working for the U.S. government, if not the administration, that was behind this. Or am I way off with my speculation?

15 Yeah, pretty easy to read between the lines on that. She used the words "private citizen" for a reason. If it was just a lone private hacker, those words aren't applicable. They are only applicable if it was a government hack.

138 Disabling any WOL capability and execute full shutdown and power off will prevent shit like this.

Get a power strip and put the internet DSL/Cable box on the switch along with the computer too.

If powering off the internet cable box would nuke the TV too, then get a cheap Ethernet hub and interpose that between the cable box and PC, and put the cheap hub's power supply on the switch.

Now you've fully powered off the PC, as well as powering off its gateway to the internet.  It would require a physical breakin to access anything on that PC.

156 MSNBC anchor and “frequent” co-host of NBC’s “Today” Tamron Hall mischaracterized today’s Supreme Court decision on Arizona’s voter proof of citizenship requirement Monday on “News Nation.” Hall claimed the Arizona law required voters to show proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections: TAMRON HALL: [...] The Supreme Court struck down a controversial Arizona law that required voters to show proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. [...] However, a closer look at the Arizona law and the Supreme Court’s decision reveals Hall’s statement is inaccurate. The Arizona law required proof of citizenship when registering to vote on both state and federal forms, but did not compel citizens to produce proof of citizenship when actually voting. Additionally, the Supreme Court left the Arizona proof of citizenship requirement on state forms intact. As a remedy, Justice Scalia suggested Arizona petition the U.S. Election Assistance Commission to include a proof of citizenship requirement on the Arizona federal voter registration form. The distinction seemed lost on Hall, who may have been better served to actually watch her own network’s coverage of the ruling this morning: Gee MSNBC is putting up a whole slew of candidates for the Stupidest person on TV

You could keep the PC booted and power cycle the internet gateway hardware.  If its a laptop, that maybe risks a builtin WiFi exploit though.

Obviously any home LAN should completely avoid WiFi for real security.  Even with the WPA2-PSK stuff, a brute force automated Reaver crack will breach it within 24hr.

I spent quite a while wiring my crib with Cat6 copper to multiple points in each room. If I was really paranoid, I'd have shot it through EMT.

Hey, Ms. Atkisson, Secretary Sebelius called us today. She is really concerned about your health, and worried that your high stress levels may be affecting your mental stability. She said something about paranoia. Yeah, we thought that was funny too, but she wasn't laughing. She is worried- well, we all are- that you might, you know, hurt yourself. Or, even worse, someone else who we all care about.

Anyway she would be glad to refer you to some exceptionally talented psychiatrists who can medicate you. You know, if your symptoms get worse and it appears you need it. Just a thought.

Oh, we have a meeting with Attorney General Holder tomorrow. No, you don't need to be here. Probably better if you aren't in the office. Just take the day off. Relax, watch your stress level. You may want to check the brakes on your car.

224 Women may be able to start training as Army Rangers by mid-2015 and as Navy SEALs a year later under plans set to be announced by the Pentagon that would slowly bring women into thousands of combat jobs, including those in elite special operations forces. Details of the plans were obtained by The Associated Press. They call for requiring women and men to meet the same physical and mental standards to quality for certain infantry, armor, commando and other front-line positions across the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel reviewed the plans and has ordered the services to move ahead. This has disaster written all over it

What horse shit

235 you gotta order your own doped stuff and modify the TX/RX units appropriately to be truly secure.

Even that won't really get it to tempest grade secure.  Most commercial PC's and monitors broadcast EM like a fucking pulsar.

With the right spook gear you could read their screens from a couple hundred feet away.  Using cheap tossed together Radio Shack shit I did back in the late 80's as an experiment to see if it was really true after I read an intelligence journal paper on it.  It was true.  I was reading PC screens out to about 35' no problem.  That was as far as I could separate the PC and gear in the place I was living in at the time.

Even weirder?  You could disconnect the monitor completely and still read what the machine would have displayed cuz the video cards were such strong emitters.

This was also in the report that will be released tomorrow: Martin Dempsey said the sexual assaults might be linked to the longstanding ban on women serving in combat because the disparity between the roles of men and women creates separate classes of personnel — male “warriors” versus the rest of the force. While the sexual assault problem is more complicated than that, he said, the disparity has created a psychology that lends itself to disrespect for women.

289 re, Republican Pro-Lifers Motivated By “White Supremacy”…That's so off the charts it's not even wrong.

No, give it credit- it's testable.

If Republican pro-lifers were doing the Unamusement Park / Golden Dawn thing, and supporting abortion for non-whites only - then the GOP's critics would have a point.

But Unamusement Park recommends not voting at all, and the Golden Dawn last I looked wasn't a GOP constituency, or even American citizens.

So, this statement does rise to the level of being wrong. (Very wrong.)

Concrete block walls.  Pay a little more to have'em fill the cells up when the header is poured.  Usually they put these little metal caps over the cells to keep the concrete from flowing down and filling them.

It would be way less than 10 extra yards for a typical house.

I'm sure you have a typo there. Those are terrabyte TB drives.
I have an old XP (USB 1.0) and it would take a long time to back up a full TerraByte of data. My newest old desktop has Firewire(400), so what I 'should do' is get a 2TB drive with both USB/Firewire and back up everything on the old XP, and this Vista box. But data backup is rather low on my priority list at the moment. It's only irreplaceable data should either of these two machines croak.
