Sharyl Attkisson Reportedly Leaving CBS News
— JohnE.

From Politico:

Sharyl Attkisson, the Emmy award-winning investigative reporter, is in talks to leave CBS News ahead of contract, POLITICO has learned.

Sources familiar with the situation cite disputes between Attkisson and network executives, including CBS Evening News executive producer Patricia Shevlin, as the cause for the talks, though the specific issues could not be confirmed.

Sources cite "disputes with network executives". No kidding. Why, I couldn't possibly imagine what these "specific issues" might be.

Just for fun, let's take a look at Sharyl's recent highlight reel of investigative journalism.

She took the lead on investigating the Fast & Furious scandal while the rest of the media including her own network, were seemingly uninterested. She was even screamed at by a White House spokesman over her coverage of the story.

She excoriated both the Administration and Hillary Clinton herself over the Benghazi stonewalling. This is something she continues to pursue, while again, the media has lost interest.

Patricia Shevlin, named above as clashing with Attkisson, of course worked for nearly a decade with Dan Rather on CBS's Evening News. I bring that up because I feel like it.

But, this is just me being cynical again. I'm sure this was probably about inaccurate expense reports or something.

That's a terrible shame. Sharyl Attkisson was proof real journalists still existed. I admire her courage and integrity--and yes, it takes both when someone from the freaking White House is shouting at you over the phone.

By the way, it looks like the MSM is dropping the mask entirely now. Its almost ostentatious nonreporting of stories such as Fast and Furious, Benghazi, and the Gosnell murders seems almost like an assurance to Obama, Hillary and the Democratic Party that they're finally all in now. All nonbelievers have been purged. No more holding back.

65 Second off does anyone really think that a reporter can carry programs that the producer doesn't like or support?

Obviously, outsiders have no way of knowing exactly what's going on in CBS.  Even so, I could certainly see how a reporter could shame a producer into airing stories that the producer would prefer not to air for political reasons.  At least for a while.

Nobody likes being confronted with their own intellectual dishonesty.  Concessions might come first but if the reporter persists, the trap door eventually swings open.

Posted by: Cicero (@cicero) at April 12, 2013 01:37 PM (8ZskC)

66 Second off does anyone really think that a reporter can carry programs that the producer doesn't like or support? Posted by: Vic at April 12, 2013 05:31 PM (53z96) First of all, this is not the producer she was working with on FF and Benghazi. Secondly, friction between her and her previous producer and the network has already been noted repeatedly. So, while it's always good to have multiple sources, this is not unexpected and it's congruent with previous reports. Others are covering it but I'm not sure what all their sources are.

And, that is why it is a bit unfair to attack Tapper so harshly. And, it might be why he is so thin-skinned as some have called it. It can't be easy even slightly wanting to go against the grain on these networks, or in these ultra left leaning papers. Tapper was given 5 minutes to cover Gosnell. He may have more power if his popularity grows, but he just started with CNN. I doubt they would give him that much leeway right away. 80 How about news director/reporter at a big 3 affiliate in a decent sized city. Kansas City or someplace that size. When it comes to the national news portion of the shows in Topeka, all they do is repeat what the major network said. If what really mattered was reported in a city that size it might spread out across the country by word of mouth. Eventually put pressure on the networks from us plebes to cover the stories too.

98 I want more news babes on Fox anyway. Just give my the Kraut and a hot blonde and that's all I really need. She doesn't actually have to be blonde. I'll take a hot young brunette. The Kraut and the hot young newsbabe are required though. Hair color isn't important. Kraut + young chick = winner.

99 90 Who does original reporting for our side? FoxNews does some. Who else? We seem to be almost all punditry with minimal reporting. Posted by: Flatbush Joe at April 12, 2013 05:48 PM (ZPrif) Nearly 100% of stories on the MFM and Fox come from the New York Times or the AP.

100 And Fox News doesn't get to the people who need to "see the light" anyway. Libidiots don't watch it. And for the most part don't truly care about anyone but themselves. Besides barky said that F&F was just an ongoing operation started by Bush and no one with a real voice ahem Mitt ahem stood up and said "You lie."

FOX News gives no shit about journalism and truth.

They care about ratings.

Posted by: soothsayer at April 12, 2013 05:47 PM (C0ttM)

---------

Brett Baer's coverage of Benghazi was premier journalism, imo.

And, of course they care about ratings. It's a business, not a non-profit.

That said, I am regularly frustrated by Fox, for not being as conservative as I would like.

But they're still a hundred times better than any of the other tv news sources.

If people really cared about the truth, Glenn Beck would be #1 in ratings.

Despite his rather odd sense of humor, he's surprisingly correct on a lot of things, and was well  in advance of supporting evidence.  Time has borne out many of his predictions and warnings. Almost too many, IYKWIM.

That the Left singled him out early   for their emsmearening says a lot.

There was one other also a woman that actually reported on a couple of issues, I have forgotten her name?

Jennifer Griffin was another one that did a good job on Benghazi, but there's another one, a brunette, with a pixy haircut, who was having a royal contract skirmish with FOX.  I can't think of her name, dammit.  She was in the news for giving a liver transplant to her newborn a while back.

186 I IXQUICK'ed it.  Catherine Herridge.  That's it.  Did she leave?

RushBabe,

I think Catherine Herridge is still with Fox...as their Homeland Security Correspondent.

Saw her on air yesterday, or maybe the day before.

189 If Beck is smart he'll snap her up.  At least there she can be a journalist.

190 Haven't seen much elsewhere about Sharyl A. leaving.  She is good stuff -- solid, persistent investigative reporter.  Hope she surfaces somewhere good.

191 But she hasn't done any news coverage of the terrible secret of space. That secret remains safe. GRAY ALIEN ANAL PROBES!

192 Too bad. One of the few reporters left in MSM is leaving.

She is fearless.

194 How do we contact her?  To support her?  Her investigative reporting reminds me of the great Kimberly Strassel at the WSJ.  Taking on the stories that no one else will touch.  Strassel got rewarded by FNC (although she should have a much more prominent role on the news side, a la Brit Hume, along with her gig at the WSJ), so why not Attkisson at those same two venues?

195 Sharyl and The Pantsuit in a cage match.

Sharyl is a 2nd degree Black Belt - I'll go with her in that one.

Sources cite "disputes with network executives". No kidding. Why, I couldn't possibly imagine what these "specific issues" might be.

Counter-revolutionary tendencies? Being a running dog of the capitalist imperialists? Failing to follow the Party line? Being a loyal American? But I repeat myself.

197 Sharyl, head to Fox

Posted by: KR1 at April 13, 2013 07:59 AM (oEfom)

198 Sharyl is a libelist. She shamelessly defamed a mid-level government procurement clerk. Failing upward. The wingnut welfare way.

199 Was Sharyl at the Weiner presser where Tony yelled at the CNN reporter?

Posted by: Mr_Fastbucks at April 13, 2013 09:43 PM (b67KU)

200 Excuse, but you so-called journalists, get a spine and at least cover Benghazi. The shame be upon you my cowardly friends!
