Shooting At Washington Naval Yard
— Pixy Misa

Four Reported Dead.

A gunman armed with a rifle and perhaps a handgun opened fire Monday at the Washington Navy Yard — killing at least four people and wounding at least six more, including a security guard and a city police officer, authorities said.

There are a lot of reports about the number of shooters and the number of dead and wounded. As always with breaking news like this, it is best to assume 50% "facts" being reported right now are false.

Posted by: thunderb at September 16, 2013 10:49 AM (zOTsN)

This is fishy to me.    Two different rounds doesn't necessarily mean two shooters.  There may be one shooter with multiple weapons.

I'm still going to hold off   on   the media reports of multiple shooters.

>>>Dumb question: was is this "naval yard."?

Not so dumb. Never been to the DC one, but if its like Brooklyn its essentially an industrial area where a lot of welders, boiler mechanics, electricians, etc go to refit ships, or build them, whatever.

What that means for this story is that there are a LOT of civilians, easily outnumbering the military, and while security should be being handled by the Navy, they are kinda notorious for being lax in that regard - for instance, they'll stick a kid at the ropes with a nightstick to patrol around for rats, have one guy with a pistol roaming around, and the gate kid will have a radio.

32 They can't be Keystone Cops because the Keystone is blocked.

Posted by: Anna Puma (+SmuD) at September 16, 2013 06:57 AM (NSnWy)

33 Of course I say that just as the police themselves say that there are two shooters. But I suppose I was correct in saying I would be surprised. I am.

I'd still take it with a grain of salt.

The police are just as prone to getting the facts wrong in the chaos as the press.

39 19 "One of the morons told me the Navy Yard is a big supply hub." Less and less with every budget round. It's increasingly office space. However, during the ongoing conversion period, the warehouse 'mentality' still tends to prevail. It's main 'strategic' value -- if that's the right term -- lies in its relative proximity to the national Capital center. Even then, it's a mile distant.

As far as I'm aware it also has no known connection to an actual shooter, since   we don't know who the fuck did the shooting.

Please,   hold off on your pronouncements until after we actually know what the shit is going on.    Otherwise you just look desperate, and that's not a good look on you.

Yes, the word "officially" you used is key.  It's becoming increasingly clear that there are a lot of people who truly think that the "official" response should be the only response to any event.

"Shelter in place, comrade.  Help from the noble, official 'first responders' is coming.  But stay out of the way of your betters while we deal with this."

This general attitude is deeply corrosive to liberty.  And it's still spreading rapidly.

As much as I love the A10s (us Infantry guys LOVE A10s), the loss of tankers would be catastrophic since the new KC46s aren't even projected to start entering service for at least two years. That's to say, if they even get built at all.

420 so back to two or three shooters?
all disgruntled?
perhaps witness's  are confused?
so 1 in fatigues and two in street clothing?

Posted by: willow at September 16, 2013 08:32 AM (nqBYe)

421 I hope it is not more than one shooter. Who's jurisdiction would this case be? Jag? Local police? FBI? Can there be true justice in a case like this, with obama in charge, especially if it is multiple shooters, and if any are black?

JEF talkin about "mass shootings".  Look for gun grabbing to commence anew.  Look forward to more recalls in response to the response.

425 Why not one word about possibly hundreds dead in Colorado from Obama? (hundreds still missing)

Posted by: SamIam at September 16, 2013 08:35 AM (HMI9a)

426

My guess is that it was one shooter and unreliable witnesses.  There would be more dead and wounded if there were multiple shooters.

427 Obama called it a tragedy. A tragedy is dying of leukemia. Awful and horrible, but not an act of man. This is a crime or terrorism.

took place on a federal installation.  Should be fed jurisdiction, although the fed  can waive jurisdiction and give the case to local prosecutors since they share jurisdiction

JAG only involved if the perps are military.  If not, a fed or state prosecutor.  Military uniform does not mean they were military.  Could have got those at a thrift store

444 I used to live near the Navy Yard.  There is no way any old civilian can walk in with a gun and start shooting - you have to have a clearance.  My guess is it's another incident of "workplace violence."

447 Posted by: thunderb at September 16, 2013 12:38 PM (zOTsN) ---- Thank you. I just wondered because of the locale. I expect the slime in DC (politicians) to be in a tizzy about this if this was a white hispanic or a non-muslim man or men.

Can you imagine how hectic the White House was this morning with people trying to come up with a plausible reason for Obama to be at the Navy Yard, standing next to a SWAT vehicle, talking into a microphone, with his shirt off?

451 195 We now call Blacks, "Dark Skinned", like "White Hispanics"

How did they got an AR 15 in DC. They are illegal and this is a gun free zone

Bob Beckel says that those nasty rednecks in the south are the reason we all have guns in the inner cities, because there are ZERO  gun laws in the south.  You can actually walk into a 7-11 and get a gun with ammo and a slurpee.

455 Academic question: if a mass shooting was ended by an LTCF holder before police could arrive, would TFG call him a hero?

I know they've been ended in the recent past by them, but the body count didn't get to mass shooting levels before it was ended (thank God). Grabbers love to ignore the deaths prevented aspect.

457  " I used to live near the Navy Yard. There is no way any old civilian can walk in with a gun and start shooting - you have to have a clearance."

Well, "clearance" can be as little as having an appointment.

If you arrive around 7:45-8:00 am, you pull into the visitor's parking and go into the security building.  They check the sheet and if you're on it they give you a temporary badge and cardboard sign you put on the dashboard of your car that has the building number you are going to.

No one ever searched the car or frisked me.  No metal detector to step through.

462 Here's how it's going to play out in the media:

If identity of the perpetrators helps the progressive Narrative, this shooting was merely a symptom of larger problems in our society that demand a national conversation and immediate action.

If it hurts the progressive Narrative, they were "isolated lone wolves."  Move along; nothing to see here.
