Short Film Featuring Rapidly Expanded Minds
— CAC

After seeing dozens of youtube ads for a short Sundance film called The Apocalypse, I have to admit my curiosity got the better of me. NSFW probably from the gore, and don't think too much about it afterwards, but a nice break from the more depressing state of affairs.

24 How come only white people exploded? Maybe the dog was a minority? According to some of the youtube commentators, the point of the film is that white people stress out over stuff and so they deserve to have their heads explode, whilst blacks and Latinos are more mellowed out, so their heads do not explode. Which is not at all a racist point of view. I fucking hate Sundance.

28 Not really finding the humor here. I mean, I guess I can see how it's supposed to be funny, but spending that much time and money to make something that registers a 1 on the funny meter seems like a waste. Then again, we are talking Sundance here.

I'm gonna have to denounce myself if I bring this to the logical conclusion, but let me just note that the illegitimate children and grandchildren of the white people I graduated from HS with get fed/housed/medical treatment, even though none of them have ever "stressed out" about having a job or knowing how to read or any of that lame-ass honky shit that gets black kids ridiculed for "acting white."

68 Okay, some film student had an idea, one that wasn't terribly original or important to begin with, and then somehow acquired the money and technical expertise to make a video. But acting it out and GCI graphics don't make the idea any more interesting. I say "not original" because it's Monty Python's skit about the weaponization of jokes, plus gore. Or else it's Scanners, minus science fiction. I do, however, enjoy watching apathetic hipsters suddenly fly into panic. Doesn't matter what they're panicking about.

111 I liked it too. The Slo-Mo stuff was pretty to look at, as well as Rookie Anderson.

A shame it tanked at the box office.

I'm glad ace recommended it or I would have never seen it because it tanked at the theaters.  There are not too many other movies that tanked at the box office and that I have ended up liking.   Funny People is one that comes to mind.

The sidebar story about secret agents needed to squeeze, literally, info out of horny businessmen was a recent plot on an episode of "Elementary".  The female manager of an upscale hotel actively encouraged escorts to come to her hotel to take care of business, while secretly wiring up the rooms with cameras and mics.  Turns out, she and her husband were deep cover Russian spies, pretending to be Americans.

Makes me wonder how many hotels DO have sound and picture hook-ups in their nicer rooms.

135 Sixteen days after being let go as the Jets offensive coordinator, Sparano has agreed to become the assistant head coach/offensive line, a league source confirmed. Sparano, who coached the Dolphins from 2008-11, was brought in by the Jets in part to help spearhead Tim TebowÂ’s role in their Wildcat offense. Instead, Tebow and the Wildcat were used sparingly and the JetsÂ’ offense ranked 30th in the league. The RaidersÂ’ rushing attack was 28th in the league last year for the 4-12 team that is coached by Dennis Allen. Gee the Raiders must be desperate.

I was kind of wondering how they could sustain that for another 84 minutes, given that it barely made it to 6.

Anyway, if that's all there is, it sucked.    I'm not at all against gore per se, but at least put in into the context of a story that's interesting.

140 Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military's ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war. The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule banning women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units. Panetta's decision gives the military services until January 2016 to seek special exceptions if they believe any positions must remain closed to women. Actually I think it is much todo over nothing. But it's a sop to the Libs, of course libs that don't and never will serve

149 Somehow a documentary that is pro nuclear energy, or at least pro discussing it, snuck into Sundance this year. To make up for it they also included a documentary on Dick Cheney, which I am sure is completely impartial and unbiased, because these are all professional filmakers dontcha know. If I had to make up a theme for the majority of the films in Sundance this year, it would be "a bunch of unfulfilled, emotionally scarred people make terrible life choices." AKA all liberals ever.
