Shut It Down
— DrewM

The revelations about the corruption and abuses of power within in the Obama administration has shown one thing very clearlyÂ…Obama has not taken care that the laws of the United States be faithfully executed.

Simple math will show that Obama will not be impeached and convicted. In fact trying to do so is folly. He will become a martyr to the left and his ultimate acquittal will only vindicate his history of abuse.

What can be done however is a full stop, nothing passes, nothing moves from the House of Representatives until substantive progress is made on rooting out the malefactors who have turned the executive branch into a hyper-partisan, unaccountable, enforcement arm of the Democratic Party. Yes, elections have consequences and Democrats have every right to guide policies to their liking, they have no right to use the power of government to impede the legal political activities of opponents or do enforce laws in ways that give their political allies an advantage.

WeÂ’ve rightly heard over the last 3 plus years that the House alone is insufficient to move forward any entitlement reforms that could possibly pass. It is insufficient to repeal of ObamaCare. The House alone cannot do any of the things conservatives would like to see happen while the Democrats control the Senate and the White House.

What weÂ’ve also been told however is that the House can stop new bad things from happen. Now is the time to exercise that power.

This is a partial list of what I think must be cleared up before the GOP passes any more legislation:

• Understand why an IRS official who her superiors knew was targeting conservative political groups received six-figure bonuses for her work and is now charged with heading the IRS implementation of ObamaCare.

• Ensure that the people who targeted the President’s opponents have been removed from the government.

• Protections must be put in place and demonstrated to be effective to ensure that the IRS is no longer engaged in partisan warfare against citizens who may not share this President’s poitical views.

• HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebeilius must be full investigated for her extra-legal fundraising activities from organizations and companies she is empowered to regulate under the Affordable Care Act.

• There must also be a full accounting of Sebelius’ prior violation of the Hatch Act, which appears to have gone unpunished.

• There must be a full investigation of the AP subpoena issue, including the actions of the Attorney General and the handing of his alleged recusal.

As I said, this is just a partial list of issues that must be addressed and corrective action taken before the House of Representatives does a damn thing.

Debt ceiling hike? No. Maybe in exchange for something concrete like SebeliusÂ’ resignation or a delay in the implementation of ObamaCare until these investigations are complete and corrective actions are made.

Budget? Sure, as long as it doesnÂ’t include any funding for ObamaCare and the IRSÂ’ role in implementing it.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform? Hell no. At this point does anyone trust the IRS or Department of Homeland Security under this President to actual enforce any provisions other than giving the maximum number of illegal immigrants legal status as quickly as possible? Do you really think the IRS is going to disqualify illegals from legal status over unpaid back taxes?

Nothing moves Mr. Speaker. Nothing.

This will not be a politically popular stand, at least at first. People will think itÂ’s simply partisan gamesmanship. It will be up to Republicans to explain the stakes here.

In the past IÂ’ve opposed government shutdowns because thereÂ’s no identifiable path to winning and because yes, when you know you canÂ’t win, you have to live to fight another day. But if stopping this country from sliding into a 3rd world banana republic where the politically powerful can crush their opposition by using the power of government isnÂ’t a hill worth fighting on what is? If the GOP wonÂ’t make this stand, what exactly is their purpose?

Shut it down Mr. Speaker. Shut it down.

Added: I originally wrote this to be posted on Friday but things got busy and I never found a spot to post it, so I put it up at my little blog. Allah was kind enough to link to it from Hot Air but as part of a post with a disturbing theory...all the scandals make things like amnesty easier to pass.

I am under no illusions that Boehner or the GOP would actually go the route I propose but he should.

There is a problem with defunding Obamacare.

1. If the GOP defunds Obamacare, the GOP will now own it in the eyes of the Low Information Voter.

2. Even if it is defunded, as pointed last year prior to the SCOTUS decision, it will only make it worse.

Full repeal is required.

14 Yup.  Shut it down.

Not much can be done to stop Obamacare, but I would suggest not even trying.

Implementation of Obamacare will be the GOP's ticket back to power in the Senate and the White House.  It is a gift.  It will be an unmitigated disaster..  but, it is still a gift.

As far as the IRS goes, I would suggest this is the perfect opportunity to introduce a flat tax system.  Let's put these mo fo's out of work.

Pelosi said they had to pass it to figure out what was in it. Now they own it and the entire shitstorm to follow. Even with the media on their side, I think it will be hard for the Dems to win the argument using "It's the Republican's fault they didn't pass a fix to the signature Obama project we forced up the ass of the nation, sans lube."

Drew, I gotta say "yes, and no".

When you say:

"What can be done however is a full stop, nothing passes, nothing moves from the House of Representatives until substantive progress is made on rooting out the malefactors who have turned the executive branch into a hyper-partisan, unaccountable, enforcement arm of the Democratic Party."

you ignore the fact that the President is almost certainly both the center and the source of all this. He has proven himself to be a lying, socialist, SOB, and has a track record of advancing by undermining others, not by actually accomplishing something himself. This is commonplace among people with NPD, for which he is the quintessential poster child; he has no other mode of operation, and will NEVER stop, even after he leaves office.

So if you accept that Obama cannot be impeached, you also admit that the malfeasance cannot be stopped.  All anybody can try to do is to keep him busy with investigations, to try to minimize the damage.

Beyond that, the House already has, at least partly, followed its mandate as the "Obama restraining order." Maybe we can see more of that.

65 I've been a lurker for several years (post what? two comments - maybe) but recent events have made me more inclined to discuss what is going on. The destruction this administration has caused is incalculable. I don't mean Obamacare, or the hollowing out of the military, or even the abject failure to allow a revitalized economy to develop. The destruction to which I'm referring is cultural and societal in nature. A society of informed citizens, under our system of government, must balance two distinct attitudes; the first is a belief that the government can, and will, arbitrate disputes fairly, provide for national defense, and apply/enforce all laws and regulations equally. The second is the suspicion that government can, and will, grow too large, and begin to infringe upon the very freedoms that it was designed to protect. Without that balance, a hyperpolarized society emerges - which we are seeing now. One part of America blindly trusts the President and his administration no matter what they choose to undertake. The other group recognizes the President's utter contempt for constitutional constraints on executive power and is rightfully worried that his administration is acting well outside the boundaries of law. These two groups have mutually exclusive views, and they cannot be reconciled by intellectual argument. I'm straining to make this comment as non-partisan as possible, but the default position of the modern Left is to argue from emotion, rather than empirical fact (consider their need to enforce absolute adherence to climate change theories and political correctness). The administration has shown itself to be untrustworthy in many cases, criminally negligent in some cases, and acting with malice aforethought in others. These past few weeks of revelations about the IRS, Bengazi and the AP are going to cause further entrenchment in the views of both previously identified groups of citizens. And, as I mentioned before, a healthy society needs to balance trust of government with skepticism and suspicion. This administration has made that impossible, and the country will spend many years suffering for it.

66 Chaffetz acknowledges that House speaker John Boehner is wary of moving too swiftly against the president, but the brash, 46-year-old conservative is tired of waiting for answers. He’s ready to issue subpoenas and schedule more hearings. His chief concern is that the White House, which he says is staffed by “self-preservationists,” seems to be hiding documents related to the attack and the president’s decisions, in order to protect the administration from scrutiny. “They’ve released 100 emails, but there are thousands of documents that we still need to see,” he says. “The truth gets colder as time goes on, so we need to stay vigilant.” “Now, the speaker has more patience than I do,” Chaffetz says. “He has told me to be patient, that the truth will eventually surface. 71 Problem with that one is that they have the machinery in place to permanently fuck with anyone they determine is a "tax protester".

The real problem with tax-revolt (which underlies the problems you mention) is that it would take a significant portion of the tax-paying public (that is: people who actually pay net taxes) to refuse.  If they don't, then anyone who does is screwed.

OTOH, if they do the country shuts down.

89 Low level Democrat workers at the IRS need to go to prison on the same charges that sent those LA cops to prison after the Rodney King riots.  The charge was something like depriving someone of his rights under color of law.

Those LA cops got two and a half years for one instance.  Multiply by however many instances.  I actually think that might be a winning political strategy because ordinary people hate the IRS and we have the previous example.

When low level flunkies roll over on the higher ups, you can trace the conspiracy higher up the food chain all the way to the Cabinet.

Impeachment, however is never going to happen.  Just leave Obama alone and powerless as all his underlings fall one by one or all in a bunch.

104 Congress in toto must do something; something more than just hold public hearings. It is unlikely that democrats will support anything from the GOP so the only thing the GOP can do is block everything. No deals, no compromise, no budget, no debt ceiling increase, and take the heat for it. It is what should be done, but . . .

For 3 and a half years? The GOP would never hold up, and Obama and the democrats know it.

It's one of several things I have been saying for years, that the liberal left has learned over the last 50 years that if they demand something and are denied, then escalate their demands; demand even more and make the demand more vehement, threaten violence. Remember Clinton and the nineties welfare reform? The democrats in congress threatened that the cities would burn. Newt held the republicans in the house together, and forced Clinton to claim welfare reform as his own idea. Call Obama's bluff, he hates that.

Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars at May 20, 2013 06:56 AM (HsTG8)

108 The real problem with impeachment is that it is pointless. Obama, as big an asshole as he is, is not the problem. He is a symptom, an enabler. The real problem is the federal bureaucracy and federal unions which are overwhelming liberal and in favor of even bigger gov't. Then NTEU which is the union behind this scandal has been suing the federal gov't, and specifically Republican administration, since the Nixon years for ever bigger gov't. And they keep winning. Obamacare proposed a massive increase in the size of the IRS (estimated 16,000 new agents) and that means more union dues. Conservative groups, as we know, were violently opposed to this. I'm not saying that Obama wasn't involved in the targeting and I firmly believe he was but is it any wonder that IRS complied? We are the enemy of our federal government as it is currently constructed. Until that problem is dealt with we're just rearranging the deck chairs.

129 Posted by: Huma Abedin at May 20, 2013 10:56 AM (dScAL) Huma, I tend to agree. That's why I consider myself conservative. Progressivism is terribly closely linked to fascism and tyranny, and collectivism is responsible for hundreds of millions of needless deaths. Unfortunately, we have a population of voters who are not citizens, in the truest sense of the word. And we have entitlement problems - not SSA/Medicare. I have an old friend on Facebook who is constantly agitating for polyamorous marriage. She believes that she and others are entitled to marry as many people as they want, fabric of society be damned. I also have a friend who recently failed out of the Marine Infantry Officer Basic course. She admits that she couldn't make it through, but progressives have nurtured a culture in which it is impermissible to point out basic facts about race, gender and sexuality. So more succinctly, I agree with you. We're already in the midst of civilizational decline; it won't be the barbarians at the gates that destroy us - it will be those who wish to re-make the country in a vast collectivist, value-free, non-judgemental subservient model. And an ignorant or apathetic population will support the transition, or fail to oppose it.

On the impeachment issue, hoo boy do we have a problem.  This administration is way more corrupt than Nixon ever dreamed of being. There are two major roadblocks to impeachment that Nixon didn't have. First is what Brietbart called the "Democrat-media complex", of course.  The other big one is the one nobody want to talk about - racism. A particular demographic group doesn't even follow what TFG does, and suffers double the unemployment rate that we saw in the Depression, but will always support him - because he is not white.  This is our own chickens coming home to roost, as we let the Left call us racist and get away with it for decades, even as they institutionalize racism against white people (and Asians, BTW).

Yet, the Republic cannot really function with a President who openly flouts the law, and tells outlandishly obvious lies to the people with regularity.  At least, what, five? major departments in the executive branch have been found to be outrageously corrupt, and are pretty bold and shameless about it.  People who are outspoken supporters of the Constitution literally being persecuted, and that is beyond absurd.

This is not Watergate; this is Watergate squared.  We need to find a new way to deal with it. We have a virtual Constitutional crisis on our hands. We need to find a way for to get the average person making cracks about Obama in a way that equates him with Stalinist Soviet leaders, Nixon, and corruption in general. It is only when he finally becomes the laughing stock that he should have been long ago that he can be neutralized.

On Fox, 17 Air Force officers removed from missile launch duties
http://preview.tinyurl.com/dy7wxtd

It's not clear from the article, though it appears that these officers were removed for failing to maintain standards. However, knowing Obama one might well ask if they are being removed because they would not follow an order to launch if that order came from Obama.  It's the old story of a tyrant replacing officers whose loyalty is to the nation rather than personal loyalty to Dear Leader.

There was also an incident under Bush where the Air Force 'lost' accountability for a nuke which did (or didn't) go for a ride on a B52.  Complacency happens.

167 The real problem with tax-revolt (which underlies the problems you mention) is that it would take a significant portion of the tax-paying public (that is: people who actually pay net taxes) to refuse. If they don't, then anyone who does is screwed.
============
Also known as: "IF we don't hang together, we will most assuredly hang apart."

Our Founders were well familiar with this and we'd be wise to heed them.

The only way this government--the Chicago Way--works is if they can single one out at a time--make an example, keep the rest in line.

Here's the number: 100,000. I figure that is the minimum of open tax revolts needed. But, we'd have to hang together and take care of each other as their first move will be to jail and seize assets; we'd have to mutually support their families, etc.

A "sanctuary" city makes this possible . . . .

Once the jails and seizures fail, when the courts and jails are full and still more refuse to pay, they will move on the armed assaults. The fascist state only knows escalation . . . .

So, are you willing to lose your job, your house, your everything in the name of freedom?

How close are we getting to ordinary men saying, "the scale has been filled and the balance tipped?"

The defacto criminalization of the conservatism is a life threatening thing to us. It didn't start with the IRS and it shouldn't be limited thereto. For example, every GOP state governor needs to start inspecting school books and making sure that the pinko bedwetting union thugs teaching our kids aren't full out lefty propagandizing them. Also, I've been thinking about the IRS, those demand letters are primae facie felonies. I mean, it's cute that they the IRS was trying to trap tea party groups in perjury traps, but by demanding such intrusive and unwarranted and partisan inquiries, the IRS officials up the chain basically broke every Hatch act style law. The GOP needs to hang every person from the lowly dork signing the letter, to the head of the branch itself, to an IG that ignored these things. This is war. It's been war for a long time, but right now it's at an existential threat level.

While more Republicans (read: any) are Conservative than Democrats, the Republican Party is no more Conservative as a whole than, oh, say Maine.

In general, Republicans want to "do government better," not "make government smaller."  Which is also why Boehner and the other Republican Leadership are not nearly as up in arms about this as we would like them to be.

I guess it's kind of like the so-called War on Terror. We in the US literally do not believe in Holy Wars, but the thing is OUR ENEMY DOES, and has been at war with US for a very long time. We've been "at war" for quite some time, but we need to recognize that, and finally start to defend ourselves.

On a side note, why do people keep calling the Tea Party groups "conservatives"?  The Tea Party stands for a subset of what conservatives do, but fiscal responsibility and limited government are libertarian virtues, without the social conservative baggage.

217 The problem with our strategic assets came to a head during GW Bush's administration when a B-52 accidentally flew across the US armed with nuclear tipped cruise missiles.  And the crew was totally unaware they had nukes.  Which caused the USAF to create a rotating pool among the bomber crews of wings sharing the nuclear mission.  But lost out it, from reading the Minot AFB incident, seems was anyone wondering how the Minuteman III and Peacekeepers were doing with their readiness.  Well now we know, not well.

221 He abandoned virtually all conservative principles, left a dying economy, started two pointless wars, embraced more huge social welfare spending--and on and on

Now you're just buying into what the Democrats were selling for 8 years.

"Abandoned virtually all conservative principles?"  No, though he did abandon most of the fiscal ones.  Nevertheless, his budget deficits were directly related to the GWOT- without two active wars, we would have been running about balanced, IIRC.

"Left a dying economy?"  No.  Nothing that happened to the economy can be laid at GW's feet with the possible exceptions of the Bail Outs- and even there you'll still find many conservatives-in-good-standing who will tell you they were necessary.  GW had twice tried to address the housing bubble, and twice was rebuffed.  By then he was a Lame Duck, so there wasn't much he could do about it.

"Started two pointless wars?"  Wait, what?  Even assuming Iraq was "pointless" (it wasn't), you're also going to say that going into Afghanistan was "pointless?"  Get a grip.

"Embraced social welfare spending?"  Well, there he's guilty as charged.  I could point out that the RX Drug benefit was coming either way, and at least this way it was largely private and worked better than normal Medicare, but that's picking at nits- the fact is he added a huge entitlement where before there had been none.

So I guess 1 out of 4 ain't bad.

Granted, I don't forsee this happening, for a plethora of reasons (not least of which is that most law enforcement would probably refuse such a dictate, or not bother to enforce it). Right on. The legacy press trumpets Watergate as the the most significant criminal breach of public trust...EVAH! Yet they forget that there was no dead Brian Terry, Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, or Tyrone Woods. Scandals and cover-ups + fatalities > scandals and cover-ups without fatalities. ">" meaning "worse". "

I actually don't like the bandwagon about "dead bodies". In the case of Fast and Furious, it's an argument that "guns kill people, not people". It's bad enough that we armed Mexican drug cartels, for no apparent reason (unless you understand Cloward-Piven, as applied by the left to guns.)

In the case of Benghazi, the number of bodies is irrelevant. The relevant facts are that people were endangered by the lack of security (by Hillary), apparently for some reality-denying political plan, and that it's likely that the President apparently refused to respond to a terrorist attack, but instead tried to cover it up, abandoning people in harm's way. That should be UNTHINKABLE for any POTUS, regardless of whether ANYBODY actually ended up being killed or not.  If a military officer pulled a stunt like that, they would surely be court-martialed. It also opens up political problems, if it comes out that a response would not have made a difference.

Oh, and to add to my #269, people say Benghazi isn't as bad as Watergate because there was no actual crime, but I say that there are worse things a President can do than some petty crime. This was a betrayal of our people abroad, and a fraud perpetrated against the people as a whole.

This has me wondering what really happened with Watergate though. I was a kid when that was going on, but IIRC, Nixon didn't commit the actual crime there, and the crime was more outrageous than egregious (a violation of privacy, no deaths, or much in the way of destruction of property). The problem, as they say, is with the cover-up. Was Nixon accused of a crime in association with THAT? Maybe "obstruction of justice", or something like that? Obama's got THAT going on, what? at least five times over?

Go here: http://tinyurl.com/ko92g3m

Catherine Engelbrecht, the Texas wife and mother who founded the Tea Party-associated group 'True The Vote' has been audited by the IRS, has had her and her husband's small business inspected (and fined) by OSHA, has received a visit to her and her husband's small business from the ATF/Homeland Security, has been questioned by the FBI, and has been personally and publicly called out as a quasi-criminal and 'suppressor of votes' by two Democratic members of Congress.

That could be you or me. We have a saying in Indiana: 'tall wheat meets the scythe'. If you speak up or stand out, expect the same treatment. Jeffrey Lord over at American Spectator thinks there is strong circumstantial evidence that President Obama ordered this IRS vendetta against the Right--or at least went along with the pitch when it was made to him. So please, no more of this 'nice guy in over his head' spiel. That was never, ever true. He's vicious, petty, and vindictive, and evidently likes making examples.

I was audited last year, by the way: a nobody from Nowhere, Indiana. It never occurred to me that my audit might be politically motivated (and probably wasn't) but it bothers me beyond measure that it's even a possibility. This isn't who we are, what we're about as a country. I don't think a shutdown will do any good and pressing for impeachment would be folly. I do think the smart thing to do right now would be to act as individuals rather than waiting on the government to transform itself back into a Republic.

You're wrong.  Can't say much more than that.  Generally, I put a lot more stock in my experience because I'm (a) still in DoD and (b) much closer to active service than you are at this point.

I knew misseleers who were relieved because they didn't pass PRP standards or their latest qual.  This was in the 1990s.  I knew Battery and HQ Commanders who were fired ON.  THE.  SPOT. from Pershing units in Germany in the 1980s.  The Commander of the 59th Ordnance Group used to do fly out to do unit inspections with a spare Captain in his helicopter so he could relieve Battery and Company commanders immediately.  This isn't new, and it has nothing to do with Obama.

Guys sitting in missile silos don't see the outside world for 60-90 days at a time.  It's boring as shit.  They're not really worried about what TFG does.  They're only worried about making it to 20 years (if they're complete pieces of shit), or their mission (if they are true professionals).

TRUE professionals don't base their self-worth, their ego, or their professionalism on who is in the White House.  As proof of this concept I offer the experience of the entire Joint Staff under Clinton in the 1993-1998 time frame.  THAT was some morale debilitating shit right there - and yet....it never bothered us.  We did our jobs.

Those 17 tools who got relieved were relieved because they were lazy and forgot their oath of office.  They didn't lose their jobs because Obama plays too much golf and that wounded their tender sensibilities.

As a conservative, you either believe in personal responsibility - or you don't.

While Nixon did not order the break-in,  he did authorize and arrange the hush money payoff to the men caught breaking into the Democratic headquarters at the Watergate. It probably doesn't do much good bitching and moaning about the transgressions of the administration.  They have the power and they'll do whatever the hell they want to do.

The only way to change it is to seize power (through elections) and do whatever the hell we want to do.  Aside from using elections instead of insurrections, this is how it's been since time began.

Obama has the power to pardon anybody for anything, and he doesn't give a shit what you think about him doing it.  Do you honestly believe he cares if something his administration is doing looks bad?

301 I think we need a trigger for an automatic impeachment when the president fails in honoring his oath of office. It would be impartially/objectively triggered and hearing would have to be held. It wouldn't matter if the impeachment succeeded or not - but can you imagine if right now Obama had been impeached a dozen times? And the Dems could not accuse the R's of political reasons? Of course ideally the objective would be that every president would not allow a 'culture of corruption' within his administration - no where close to it.

"247 ...  Pretend a Constitutional Amendment banning all handguns, and ordering their destruction passed. I imagine that there would be roughly three groups of people; those who readily surrender their weapons, those who would hide their weapons and deny they existed if asked by law enforcement, and those who would take up arms against law enforcement if they were subjected to confiscation. Granted, I don't forsee this happening, for a plethora of reasons (not least of which is that most law enforcement would probably refuse such a dictate, or not bother to enforce it). Still, imagining such a scenario, what do you guys think the result would be?"

Something quite similar is playing out right now in NY state.  A variety of weapons and magazines have been declared illegal, counter to the Constitution. By some accounts, 90% of the State Police are against it. A legal firm in Buffalo that specializes in 2nd Amendment law received 100,000 calls and emails. At this point, IIRC, a deadline for handing stuff over has past, and people are holding off from doing so while the legal battle continues.

Let's remember 2 things: First of all, even in the Revolution, only a third of the people were for it, another third just tried to stay out of the way, and the last third was for the Big Government abuses. Second, and this is absolutely critical, the statists are cockroaches for a REASON.  They lie and pretend to be "centrists" and "reaching across the aisle", and - with the ultimate in absurdity - even "post-partisan" because PEOPLE DON'T LIKE WHAT THEY'RE SELLING. Whenever they are exposed, as in Obama's "you didn't build that" speech, they deny it and scurry back into the filthy darkness they came from.

306 Posted by: Optimizer at May 20, 2013 11:50 AM (Mxt9o) I actually don't like the bandwagon about "dead bodies". In the case of Fast and Furious, it's an argument that "guns kill people, not people". It's bad enough that we armed Mexican drug cartels, for no apparent reason (unless you understand Cloward-Piven, as applied by the left to guns.) ___________ Optimizer, I disagree/agree. I'm not trying to legitimize the "guns kill people" argument, but the "giving criminals who intend to kill people guns makes it easier for them to kill people" argument makes sense to me. I think the fatalities are incredibly important. I fully recognize that the scope and focus in F+F and Bengazi is much broader, but the deaths are indicative of a callous, incompetent administration. And the cover-up is indicative of a cynical, "politics-before-all" mindset. As others have pointed out, you don't ignore a drowning swimmer because you don't think you can get to them in time. You try as hard as you can, and if you can't save them, it's a tragedy, but you did your best. If you ignore them, it rests on your conscience/soul - as the lack of military response rests squarely on the Clinton/Obama. I get the feeling that we agree on the broad points, but maybe disagree on how to prioritize the various components, which is completely normal. I suppose now is as good a time as any to disclose that I spent about eight years living overseas with my family (Moscow, USSR/Prague, CZ/Helsinki, Finland) - my father was a career foreign service officer and two time Ambassador. Additionally, post-Army, I worked at State as an encryption/biometrics analyst, so admittedly I have an emotionally colored view of the deaths in Bengazi. One of the embassies that my father served at was recently bombed. Two fatalities, both local employees, but still - that kind of news occupies a particular place in my heart/mind.

Interesting. Well, that's flagrantly crooked, alright.

Doesn't seem to really compare to illegally going to war. Or offering to pay companies to break the law, to help with his election. Or making illegal recess appointments, when Congress wasn't in recess. Or his illegal use of "executive privilege" (isn't that "obstruction of justice" or something). Or his illegal use of the IRS (I guess Nixon had that going for him, too) and other agencies to harass his opponents.

And isn't failing to send a response in Benghazi "dereliction of duty", or something?

It's still entirely possible that something overtly crooked, not just  Constitutional fine points that are never enforced, or obvious theories. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I'd say it was "definite", but I don't have confidence that the Republicans will stick with it enough to make it happen. That being said, what else can they do?  So, maybe.

@314

SterlingtheBandit,

The thing about the fatalities with F and F is that if you give a bunch of guns to killers, you can reasonably expect that more people will be killed. But that's indirect, as far as the responsibility. Let's not get away from the fact that it is the cartels that are actually pointing those guns and pulling the trigger. Also, you can't really say that a given individual was killed specifically because the killer had a particular gun.  If the gun running had not occurred, they may well still have had that opportunity - with a different weapon.  It doesn't make sense to pin the responsibility - even indirect responsibility - for a specific death on the possession of a specific weapon. Further, let's not trumpet two American names and ignore all the additional Mexicans who were likely killed.

But, further, the whole point of the operation - as far as I can tell - was SPECIFICALLY to cause trouble, including fatalities, and further, to instigate public support for undermining the 2nd Amendment. So, again, there are worse things a President can do than get a couple of Americans killed - it misses the bigger point.

Sorry I cannot be pithy and short.  I agree completely that Boehner needs to shut it down.  He has to because Obama has already won, and I don't mean the election.  But what Obama has won is not popular.  I view everything that happened in the past 10 days as strategy.  Let me explain.  Is anyone asking why the administration leaked stories about the IRS and monitoring reporters now? Might I suggest it is not going to stop. Further, might I suggest nothing will be done about it. For certain, these operations were meant to make people believe they will not stop. And really, would anyone believe the administration or the DOJ if they suddenly remembered who ordered these actions, apologized, and promised not to do it again?
The purpose of the administration disclosing the IRS activities and these media attacks is to frighten off citizens, the media, media sources, and anyone who has information the administration does not want disclosed. The administration has plans for the next 3 years. Big plans. They are not just sitting around doing the people's business. They are plotting and scheming. They do not want any disclosure of what they are planning and do not want any pesky questions about their objectives. They sure as Hell don't want any Senate election interfering and hope they can take back the House. They will impose their vision by any means necessary, without debate, without worrying about legalities, and without concern about any opposition.
The press now understands their compliant obedience is of critical import to the administration's goals. They will "report" only that news leaked to them by official administration sources. They will not question how the official administration story was created or shaped. They will not look beyond the story given them. They will accept their role in the "fundamental transformation."
And that's that.
The citizens are scared. Listen to the citizen stories. Heck, listen to the reporters' stories. What happened has put fear in their voices. They know someone is looking over their shoulder, watching, monitoring, and if they cross a line, make a donation, speak out or report, they may be investigated by the DOJ or audited by the IRS, and exhaust their life savings defending themselves against whatever charges can be imagined.
The press is controlled, the people intimidated. The last thing they need is to disarm the public and that is happening in select states whose governors and democratic state controlled legislatures are complying with orders from the party in Washington.
We now live under tyranny and are close to living in a police state.  Boehner's only course is to shut it down.  The administration has already won.  If Boehner funds it, it only gets worse.  This is the time to fight.  There is no tomorrow.
