Snow Delay Morning Thread
— Pixy Misa

Sorry guys, we were hit with a bit of a snow storm and I didn't have a chance to put a morning link dump together.

Instead, enjoy this VDH article.

Today’s Washington journalists are like J. R. R. Tolkien’s ring wraiths, petty lords who wanted a few shiny golden Obama rings — only to end up as shrunken slaves to the One.

6 In CO- recall process is underway targeting Dem representatives who supported the recent gun legislation.  MacLachlan (D-Durango) and senate president Morse (D- CO Spgs) are among those facing possible recall. There will certainly be others.

The recall petition reads thusly- "Representative MacLachlan has betrayed the trust of his constituents, his oath to uphold the 2nd Amendment, and the rights of gunowners by voting YES on gun control measures in both the Judiciary Committee and the House of Representatives"

8 Using the Tor browser unlocks the door to a whole weird and wild world you never would have guessed existed online. Where Google helps you find the needle, Tor lets you "explore the haystack."

There is lots of promise in Tor's value – people use it to protect their communications, to research sensitive topics, and to access information they might otherwise not have access to (if a country is behind a firewall, for example). By guaranteeing such a high level of anonymity, Tor lends itself well to information freedom activists, libertarians, and those who simply want to take their Internet safety to the extreme.

WTH ever happened to the Dwarf rings, anyway? IIRC, they were supposed to be the foundation of the seven great clan's mountains o' gold and joo-els, but essentially lost.

I kind of wonder if, for example, Moria was a template for what happened although it was never spelled out. The Moria ring enabled the dwarves there to find craploads of ore, they flourish and excel at artisan works and engineering, the ring draws in the rot and demons from below.....

19 Phillips: Teacher threatened son, questioned mental state over picture of BB gun

According to Phillips, his son's social studies teacher, identified as James DeLarme, saw the picture and snatched the camera from him.

After his son explained the picture was of a BB gun, DeLarme allegedly said the police would have to be notified. DeLarme and another teacher then reportedly went through all the photos on the boy's camera before handing it back.

“Do you have any animosity towards your classmates?” DeLarme asked him in front of the class. “Are you angry at anyone at school?” "Are your teachers stupid bitches ?"

I've talked about it before, Ed, but I'll see if I can dig up some things I haven't mentioned.  Here's two short ones - the role of dentist Melville Crump was supposed to be played by Ernie Kovacs (it's Kovacs' wife, Edie Adams, who plays Mrs Crump), but he died before shooting began.

And Spencer Tracy said that, of all his movies, Mad4 was the one he had the most fun doing.

And here's another - Stooge Joe Besser was supposed to be one of the two gas station attendants whose store Jonathan Winters wrecks, but he was under contract to a TV show at the time and they wouldn't let him film the movie.

Also, I've read somewhere that it's very likely the fireman who tries to rescue everyone from the collapsing fire escape was supposed to be Ed Wynn, since Wynn was best-known for his role as the Texaco Fire Chief, while Sterling Holloway (who ended up with the role) was not so instantly recognizable that he would have stood out in the cameo.

59 On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democrats massacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a “Negro hunt,” killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find.

67 Speaking of Oberlin College

Oberlin College canceled classes and held a unity rally on Monday following reports that a person in a Ku Klux Klan-like outfit was seen on campus. It turns out the witness may have been mistaken.

Oberlin police Lt. Mike McCloskey said that authorities did find a pedestrian wrapped in a blanket. He said police interviewed another witness later in the day and that person also saw a female walking with a blanket. He said Oberlin police were contacted by campus security and interviewed the student who reported seeing the KKK outfit.

All of that hysteria over someone wrapped in a blanket.

But then I had a proud moment recently when my son presented his sister the "wrong" message out of The Lorax. Instead of "don't cut diwn trees, man" he told her that the point was that someone should've owned the land and the trees instead of everyone having a free for all. That way, the owner would be careful to always leave some trees growing so his famiky could eat next year. Tragedy of tbe commons, fifth grade style.

Oh   boy,   "Elysium" sounds like SUCH a fun movie.  [/sarc]

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

"The To-Do List"

RATED R for pervasive strong crude and sexual content including graphic dialogue, drug and alcohol use, and language - all involving teens.

Storyline
Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza) wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she's way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends (Alia Shawkat, Sarah Steele, Donald Glover, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Johnny Simmons), older sister (Rachel Bilson) and burnt-out boss (Bill Hader) for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September they'll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

Loosely inspired by the real-life adventures of first-time writer/director Maggie Carey.

They could just call this,  "Lena Dunham:  How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Being A Whore."

151 They are betting that Keanu's impassive, read none, acting style will be mis-interpreted as a samurai's steely resolve.

At least they are keeping it period.  Will they cover the parts of the story where some of the wave-men send their daughters into prostitution just so they can continue on their quest of vengeance?

I will skip it though and just watch the black and white two part movie the Japanese had already made long ago.

Kind of like how leftists like to pretend Obammy's utter lack of foreign policy is in fact a "reserved" foreign policy.

At least it's got Ken Watanabe in it.   Though I wonder if he doesn't look at Keanu and Tom Cruise and other American actors who've been    in movies with him and say to himself,  "WTH?  No, seriously, WTH?"

I'm with you.   Stick with the original.

Apparently there is a whole new world I've been unaware of here, I see.

Is it worthy of further exploration, I wonder.

    Probably not.

So much for the that fucking ground hog...
