So when did McClatchy stop talking "Truth to Power"?
— Purple Avenger

At some point in 2007, as documented in this old Corrente post, McClatchy changed their branding and incorporated the left's "Truth to Power" phrase.

It doesn't show now on the old McClatchy stories because they've slipstreamed a change in such a manner that the new branding phraseology of "Watching Washington and the World" renders even on old stories.

I have no idea when this branding change phased in, but its not hard to imagine why it was done given events of the past 6 months. /sarc

Old and busted: "Truth to Power"
The New Hotness: Just "Watching"

They never investigated the last two democrat governors who were crooked as shit, but now we have a Republican governor so we get stories every week about how he "doesn't remember names", appoints Republican, image that, and other terrible things like sticking his dick up the democrats asses and make them squeal.

A funny thing has happened too. For several months now I get a weekly driveway delivery from them of sales papers, totally free (imagine that). It seems that they have to do this to keep their circ numbers high enough to make a buck.

39 28 The Fred Upton vote gave 39 Democrats political cover for 2014.
===
Not so fast.

How did "But it wasn't me that voted for it, it was the guy who resigned!" work for those Dem seats in 2010?

If the swing districts are pissed at Obaaamacare, "but I voted against it on a bill that my Democrat friends in the Senate blocked and my Democrat President promised to veto." isn't much cover.

That's the thing, no Democrat can escape Obaaama's promise of "keep your plan."

"He lied to me too" isn't exactly the best "and that's why I should be reelected" argument.

He lays it on you, then pretends to repair a little tiny part of the entire mess called ObamaCare." "It is time to send Congressman X home. You need representation that speaks to your needs, and November is not soon enough!" In every congressional district where there is a chance for a flip, the campaign needs to begin, and now. If a film costs $100 million, the studio will spend almost that amount in what's called "P & A" or prints and advertising. So at $200 million, you broke even. This is why the current Hollywood model is the way it is and why it too will fail.

88     I've seen it on Drudge and a couple of other places that a lot of Air Force pilots are bailing and getting out to fly for the airlines or whoever.  Even an extra 25 grand a year isn't working.

Here's the deal, folks.  I was an Air Force rotor-head for 20 years, retired a little over a year ago.  It usually isn't just one thing, but the biggest thing in my mind, is a very simple concept:  It just ain't that much fun anymore.

Once upon a time, you could get drunk at the O-club with your friends.  You could draw a big dick inside a guys hat if he left it at the front desk and forgot it (this was called "Hogging someone's hat," just for the record.)  You could invite a bunch of guys to a strip club for someone's bachelor party.  Not anymore, the ball-busting fun-haters are in charge of the Air Force now.  No one, especially the white, male, heterosexuals that make up the vast majority of the combat MOSs/AFSCs, is allow to even THINK about having fun.

Is the flying fun?  Sure, but let me tell you, even that part loses its luster after 6 or 7 years.  The thing that keeps you in (and kept me in) for 20 years is having fun day-after-day with a great bunch of guys.  With that gone, who the fuck wants to stay around for all the chicken-shit that you have to put up with these days?

89 The bad news about Red Tails was it was fiction dressed up as fact.  And then hyped and hyped some more.

I saw the CGI Bf-109G-6/UR-3/R-6 in all its accurate details and then cried at the incorrect markings applied to it.  And then they did the same wrong markings and scheme on the Me-262s.

History Channel had a one hour episode of Dogfights on the Tuskegee Airmen that is far superior in all details.

Maybe G. Love and the Special Sauce could do a collaboration with Cake for the finale.

I think I'm putting too much mental effort into this.  But it's fun.  So.

Posted by: AmishDude at November 16, 2013 10:09 AM (xSegX) I've always felt the perfect example of just how incompetent government is can be found in the whorehouse incident. The IRS took over a legal Nevada brothel for unpaid taxes. They decided to run it to get their money back, and promptly went broke. That's right, the feds couldn't turn a profit selling pussy and booze. *shakes head* These are people who, if given the chance to market one product on the deck of Titanic after the iceberg, would chose to sell anvils.

98 Springsteen. I never understood his appeal. ============================== Back in the day Springsteen gave incredible live performances. In fact i think he was the best live performer I've ever seen, and I'm not even a huge fan of much of his music. Once, in a theatre that sat maybe 500 people, the whole place went totally black while the band very quietly came out (we didn't realize they were there and I was about fifteen rows back. All of a sudden the lights came up and they went into "Rosalita" full bore. The crowd jumped up, dancing, and didn't sit down for the next two hours. Springsteen was an energetic showman that night and it was an amazing dealio to be there.

The Republican pitch is they know that the voter has been hurt and are trying to help, but those mean nasty Democrats like Reid and Obama won't let them help.

I only did 3 years in the Army (thanks, chronic stress fractures) but I was very willing to be a lifer.  And I concur completely.  When you're subjected to all sorts of incredible hardship and general insanity (weeks without a shower or change of clothes in a training exercise?  Sleeping in a hole in the dirt you dug for a week, trying to avoid the poisonous things that inhabit Georgia that want to snuggle with you?) you bond through bitching.  And having a sense of humor.  And pulling pranks (like taking a picture of your balls and setting it as your buddy's cellphone wallpaper - not that I did that or anything, it was a friend, or maybe it was my girlfriend in Canada, I can't remember, and stop asking me questions).

To be clear, I was not in the Special Forces.  But I spent a lot of time hanging out with SF guys (they were taking classes in whatever language in the next room over while I was learning Arabic) during smoke breaks.  One of their defining characteristics (apart from ignoring rank, dedication to duty, and intelligence) was a sense of humor.  They were genuinely fun guys to be around.

159 @ 80 and 89 The thing killing "American Horror Story - Coven" this season is that the show' creator's let their ghey Broadway show sensibilities take over. AMS - C plays like an exaggerated occult mash-up of "All About Eve" and "The Women" ie. a ghey Queen Bitch match-up with women as stand ins for ghey guys making "clever" bitchy remarks to each other. Plus a lot of Stevie Nicks music. I mean, a lot of Stevie Nick's music. Oh, and racism! Did I mention a lot of Stevie Nicks music? So, if you're a gay guy who loves him some Stevie Nicks, buddy, do I have a show for you! Everybody else....not so much. The thing that killed the "Red Tails" was the awful CGI for the dogfights, which both repealed the laws of physics and historical accuracy. Just ludicrous stuff. The only thing they didn't have the Tuskegee Airmen do was use their planes to go back in time... ...That might have been a better movie. Sort of like Django with air support.

"You know, as long as people can be judged by the color of their skin, problem’s not solved. As long as there are people who still, there’s a whole generation – I say this, you know, I said this, you know, for apartheid South Africa, I said this for my own, you know, community in the south - there are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die."

Wow.

You know, I wish Oprah, who still has a lot of power to direct the media spotlight on an issue, would focus her rage on *religious* persecution going on in the world. There are people actively exterminating Christians, such as Boku Haram (sp?). A present day genocide that is being ignored while these race warriors get off on crimes and victories from decades or centuries  past. Raging about people dissing a president because of some evil thought-rays of racism is ridiculous.

Orca can say anything she damn well pleases since, no thanks to her and others who "think" like she does, this remains a free country.

But she could be careful about what she wishes for: if people didn't judge by skin color, Choom Boy would be a poor, drug-addled denizen of either a homeless shelter or prison. And Orca's near-twin, Moooooo-chelle, would have to get an actual job.

A major news agency has a slightly center right take on the news and becomes really popular.  Suddenly, the liberal MSM feels a lot more comfortable turning up the bias several notches in order to "fight back."

The MSM has been liberal as long as I can remember, but it was nothing like it is today.  There was at least an effort by the Beltway to look like it was going after both sides of the aisle.

244 Just want to say that I am livid over Bashir's comments about Palin. Of course he is a misogynist, that's a given w liberal men, but the audacity of a political ideology not "permitting" the use of a generic term such as "slavery" because it has a "history" is appalling. So, "war" is now not acceptable because of the atrocities of the Rape of Nanking; or, a thousand other words with horrendous histories? Why does the left think it can use all words in the world of languages with impunity, but the right must never be permitted to utter the "sacred" ones? People need to be screaming about this fact, not focus on Palin's being besmirched by a man who is into his own make-believe scat land.

262 Should we apply the Bashir Standard to the Left's 'War on Women' comments (ie, equating Malmedy with not buying Sandy Fluke rubbers)? Chris Matthews has admitted they're constantly pushed to be more extreme on that amateur network. 271 245 Just want to say that I am livid over Bashir's comments about Palin. And notice how the "teenagers" speak of it to reporters with cameras, as if it is just sport. If even one incident of this got the races reversed, it would be Trayvon redux, with Sharpton et all riding to the rescue, and NBC giving it their full-on racial coverage. But hey, it's just fun.

325 Honestly, I love the Hartnell era-- I like that era of primitive television, and like to see creativity used over budget. The Troughton years get by on primarily personal charm. The Pertwee episodes tend to be too long (mostly 6-parters), and the early Baker years had a great intensity and style (they started to droop for me about season 16, the Key to Time Season, which I'm not fond of). John Nathan-Turner would have been fine if he'd left with Peter Davison, but he turfed the last years of the show by denying it new creative blood. I watched the new show for a few years but didn't like their vision of what it should be and stopped.

344 Re this "Knockout" thing. One of the vids captured by surveillance cam showed the attacker going in to the victim in the vic's blind zone. In other words, no warning, no way to protect oneself. And the hit is against the SIDE of the head, not to the front. Chickenshit aggressor. Reading the new Reacher book by Lee Child, wow, Child either has a new editor, or a super ghost writer, or has improved himself greatly. The hit to the head is discussed in the book, and how well-protected the brain is in its skull case from front hits, and how devastating a blow to the side can be. Reacher of course knows about this, and uses his skills to get it over with quickly. And he knows to do it just right so as to knock out but not do brain damage or cause death. Think these "youths" know about this?

345 When companies expanded to buy up market share and drive down expenses, gain end- to- end control of prices, and lower consumer costs; they were vilified as evil and the Feds came up with an entirely new set of Anti Trust laws out of thin air to prosecute them. When the government take over 1/6 of the economy, reduces competition, spends a trillion dollars it doesn't have on costs that will never be recovered, and increases consumer costs while reducing product quality; it's considered helping The Children and The Middle Class How can the same people who oppose monopolies go out of their way to support and create socialist governments?

Oh well. If the Navy ever has another war at sea (it will) and our ships are sunk, at least our betters can say they died like the true diversity open minded progressives they were taught to be.

Warms my heart it does.

356 339 329 we did three of the same platforms
I did the cook, also DD-992 and CV 59

Spru-cans were nice, but Fife was hellish for us twidgets - Divo was a tyrant. Kennedy was hell-on-earth. I thought my career was over at 12 years - and I only spent 10 months on her. Robi and Chandler were my favorites. Met my wife on Chandler, she was getting a tour.

Fletcher was in HI, and Forrestal was in Norfolk, right? I thought I got around (SD, Japan, Everett, Mayport, NOB).

We got the tech to kick some serious ass. It's just the "work hard, play hard" ethic has been effectively banned anymore.

362 There you go again, trying to use rational logic. Posted by: Mike Hammer at November 16, 2013 12:16 PM (aDwsi) Yeah. Silly me. LIV/ Liberal: "Big corporations that provide me with products and services I want and have a vested interest in earning my business and driving down costs are evil! We must put every one of these big corporations under the control of a guy that's never had a job or produced anything of value! Then the world will be perfect!"

365 Martin Bashir is a real piece of work.  The defecation invective is soooo early 16th century.  Of course, St. Thomas More and Martin Luther were masters of the art form, but Bashir finds his inspiration in  ... Jamaica.  MSNBC tools are not the go-to guys for linguistic gymnastics.  Marty gets a 3.7 for originality and a 10.0 for his low-brow buffoonery. MSNBC, how much do you pay this guy?

366 The knock out videos are disgusting.  We shouldn't be surprised by this.  There is NO adult supervision in a great majority of these feral kids "homes".  We can only expect worse soon because these feral youths are giving birth to yet another generation of feral youth who will be more violent and lawless by a factor of 10.  The democraps have done a fantastic job of destroying the black family.

367 The harsher the on-air invective, the closer the media outlet is to financial bankruptcy.
