The new "Acting School" is pretty funny. Guest appearance by Steven "Milton Waddams" Root.

The beginning (well, not the beginning, it's Adam Carolla, he takes a while to get there) of this podcast making fun of Tracy Chapman & other Coffee Shop rockers is pretty funny.

And in the category of Not Funny: I further explicated why Saturday Night Live is not funny and is furthermore also unfunny.

I think the last time I watched SNL at all was during the 2000 presidential race. Darrell Hammond's Al Gore and Will Ferrell's Dubya were damn funny. Everything since then has sucked.

I still think this is one of the funniest moments from an SNL skit EVER. It still cracks me up, and it's just as relevant today as ever.

30 SNL just proves the old adage, nothing lasts forever. Its why I laugh at people who just assume the NFL will rule the sports landscape indefinitely. Well nothing lasts forever. We could probably point to this reason or that reason, all of which play a factor, but none of which is dispositive. Particularly for TV shows. SNL really had a great run. There were several casts, each bringing something new, and each great casts kind of fit in with the times. But now the show has simply run its course. In the end, nothing lasts forever.

NBC just ran a special on SNL of the 1980s. The horrrible cast that had to replace the original gang, without Lorne Michaels. The new producer apparently knew nothing about comedy.

Gilbert Godfried was in that cast. He said "She's the kind of woman who would watch a Marx Brothers movie and say, 'I like Margaret Dumont, but who are those men running around?'"

I loved the 90s cast. Where have you gone Massive Headwound Harry?

Never appreciated Elmore Leonard, until I scored about 30 of his paperbacks at a yard sale. Most were dated (no cell phones), but covered a vast range of characters and locales, all had very good to great plot twists and turns, and almost all were very hard to put down. Unfortunately, I have never read the "Fire in the Hole" which I think was the basis for Raylan.

40 MWR - The 2000 election may be where SNL jumped the shark. Not because those skits were stupid, far from it. They actually had an effect on the election, in that they may have had an effect on debate performances. It was kind of the high water mark in their political humor. As a result, I think they thought they could do anything and actually affect politics. In essence, they became arrogant about it.

The Character of Raylan first appeared in 'pronto" and the literary Raylan is a little older, and prone to wind up with strippers as galpals....

57 Some female co-workers I've talked to have now begun a backlash against "Girls". They feel that the only hook to the show was how often and how fast the girls' clothes came off. It was a gimmick in the first season to hook the audience, but now that the fact that the girls are utter whores has been established, they keep on doing it and the women I know who watch it feel it's gone past the point of being overdone. Yes, the nasty slag chick likes to take her top off at the drop of a hat. We get it. What else is there to the show?

First two yes, third arguablly not depending on how you include Gen X. I would argue that while the latter two might technically be classified as part of that generation, they culturally grew up in a different generation . Like how late Boomers are different from early boomers.

81 Regarding Girls, there was a scene in Sex in teh City that I remember from one of the earlier episodes (don't ask why i saw it) where all the girls were discussing how many abortions they had. Very weird.

The reason I like The Fourth Turning's '61-'81 is they actually have some reasoning and research rather than arbitrary dates. Though, admittedly, it's not an exact science.

89 Sven, I keep having this belief that Gen X will save America. My theory is basically this. We are the latch key generation that really saw the full result of the liberalization of America with a high divorce rate. We are a small generation sandwhiced between two huge generations. As I have stated, we will be screwed out of the social programs simply because we don't have the votes to keep it for ourselves. Some generation will have to make the sacrafice to right the ship. It will be us. But we will also be the wise elder generation leading the younger one. Our generation will produce the leaders (Ryan, Cruz, Walker) that will actually win the war, like Patton, Marshall and Eisenhower, but the generation behind us will get the credit, like the Greatest Generation.

102 I can find countless youtube videos that are funnier than SNL. Just regular people putting up clips about their everyday lives is far more humorous than SNL has been for 20 years.

I enjoy the Soup. I suppose it helps to up on pop culture a bit to get the jokes.
