So when we were little kids, there was this amazing candy/chocolate shop not far from here. My mom would fill our baskets on Easter morning with the following cornucopia of evil: large milk chocolate bunny (solid), small chocolate bunny (dark or milk, solid), lolipop (with bunny design in mold, sometimes white, sometimes milk chocolate), medium-sized solid chocolate egg with dark choc. exterior and mixed mild/nut interior, plastic eggs filled with jelly beans and/or those creamy buttery pastel-colored things I haven't seen lately, and finally peeps (yellow, of course, and only little chicks - abominations like electric blue bunnies and the like were undreamt of. Chocolate was all what today would be called "artisan" - small shop run by an Italian family, amazing stuff (I actually never set foot there).

Can't recall Easter mass very well - but damn those baskets full of delights are fresh as today's cool SoCal spring breezes.

Anyone else have particularly outstanding secular aspects to their childhood Easters?

My parents would do very elaborate Easter baskets for us, gorgeous baskets, tons of candy, topped by a special toy (dolls for me!) and always a book. I remember one time they even stealthily arranged for a neighbor to ring our doorbell very early in the morning and they said it was the Easter bunny letting us know he'd been by.

(Mom didn't want to attract animals to the yard) Only bathrooms & bedrooms were off-limits for the hunt. There was always that *one* egg that took awhile to find......usually only a day or two, thankfully.

He would also draw an elaborate map with punny clues for hunting Easter eggs around the house and yard. Inevitably one of the eggs would remain missing until a sulfurous whiff two weeks later would reveal its location. Being an artistic bunch, our egg decorating made the house look like the Midwestern branch of the Romanovs. We're talking sequins and cherubim here!

107 I have been up since before 7 & have 7 roses to plant, but it's only 41 degrees here with a cold wind. I was outside most of yesterday & the temperature was 61 but there was cold breeze in my city & I was freezing all day. I have to work from here tomorrow because of Marathon but then I'm going outside to plant them because it's supposed to be in mid 60s here. I hate wearing too many clothes in garden, one minute it seems like it's warmed up & I'm about to take off a jacket only to put it back on within a few minutes.

The guns are planned to fire up til the last few moments, then they stand down just long enough for the air strike to swoop through. The last rounds are impacting as the lead ships are starting their passes and as tail end Charlie releases his ordanance, the rounds start impacting again. The idea, of course, is to keep ADA suppressed for as long as possible, before and after the air strike. It's pretty frickin. cool to watch. From a distance..... I can't remember the acronym for it. They may have just used TOT.

143 Worked with a guy who told me about a Brigade TOT they fired on an Iraqi division in Desert storm. They were marching across the desert and the TOT went kaboom right on top of them. They all fell to the ground. All five thousand of them. They went to go check on them and quite a few were dead, of course, but most were laying on the ground shaking with shitty drawers.

Brigade Time On Target. The entire 75th Artillery Brigade opened up at the same time. I never even stirred. MLRS and Tubes and everything. I had been hearing that for a year or so. Those Apaches have an impressive amount of firepower.

Turkey and ham (mustard-brown sugar-pineapple glaze) cooking, stuffing, scalloped potatoes,two vegetables ready, 18 eggs devilled, beer being consumed. Still to do: cream onions and set the tables. When the last one gets here, that is.

We have "Armored Brigade Combat Teams" that regardless whether or not they have infantry or armor division patches on them as a matter of tradition are laid out Exactly The Same. Seven battalions total, 4700 people more or less. Sixteen of them before the cuts, started, we'll be left with ten but each one will be bigger:
