Special Podcast: Hispanic Outreach And Immigration Reform With Daniel Garza Of The Libre Institute
— DrewM

First, thanks for listening to the first Special Podcast on the DoD Budget I did with Bryan McGrath. It was recorded before events got crazy in Ukraine but it's worth listening to given the events of the last few days and what it will mean for US policy.

Second, we need a better name than Special Podcast. I'm going to try to do one or two of these a week so they won't be very special soon.

On to this week....

As some of you may know I'm opposed to legalization/amnesty for the 11 million or so illegal immigrants in the US. I was interested in talking to someone who took the other side of this contentious issue and was fortunate enough to get Daniel Garza of the Libre Initiative to discuss this and something I do support, outreach to Hispanic voters.

We did agree on a number of things (a general desire to see the legal immigration system reformed) but disagreed sharply when it came to amnesty.

I'm not sure how many minds are out there to be changed but whichever side you are on, Daniel is a passionate advocate for his side.

As with the previous interview/debate this runs about 30 minutes.

You can follow both Daniel and the Libre Initiative on Twitter.

As always, thanks to Andy (@theH2) for his technical voodoo that makes this happen.

2 I remain a nativist who wants to limit even legal immigration so reform away, as long as the reform means allowing in who *we* want, and not just anyone who can sneaking in.

I  get tired of being told by Mexican-Americans (the real kind)  that I know nothing about authentic Mexican food.

So if they want to open up some real Mexican  restaurants around here, and other places north of  the Mason-Dixon line, that would be ok.

Are  legal beans  and rice and tortillas  authentic enough though?

Crime is high... and I hear as much Spanish spoken in Drs. offices (where I work) as English. It also a very racist place... as there are many businesses where I am not welcome... as a WHITE Native of the area. 75 Sorry, I'm sure he's all passionate about it and stuff but I don't want to hear what he has to say because he's advocating the continuation of a policy that only hurts the working men and women already here. Spits in the face of those who immigrate the legal way and creating a cadre of Democrat voters and benefit takers with other special privileges and benefits unavailable to citizens.

I'm sure if I was on the other side of this, I'd be passionate about being allowed into this country no matter what. But he's wrong and they are a liability and not an asset.

Have him talk about the immigration policies of the countries of the people who want to invade. Ask them how they'd act if we were to do the same as they are doing. Of course we can't because most all of their countries deny foreigners the ability to work to hold property or vote.

Ask him why he doesn't try to fix his country instead of coming here.

50 years of this. Allowing illiterates to flood the nation with cheap labor and what's the result? It's not prosperity for all but lower costs for some. Let them hire some Americans first, secure the border the entire length and then after 10 years, we'll talk.

Meanwhile; Hasta Manana.

82 From RDBrewer's link in the sidebar:

"If Hillary Clinton doesn't run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 -- and there's 1 chance in 5 of that -- the party could have a nervous breakdown. On the national level, the Democratic bench is weaker, or more overshadowed, than at any time in the past several decades."

84 Would a President Romney have made a difference? Again, I doubt it. While Romney has been vindicated for his view of Russia (and Obama again to be shown to be naïve) it’s hard to believe Romney’s presence in the White House would have altered Mexico's view of its interests in the U.S. Southwest. These interest are what ultimately drive Mexico's actions.

A few things to consider:

Mexico does a heck of a lot of legal and illegal trade with the U.S. Southwest.

Mexicans believe they are just reasserting, from their point of view, their historical right of return to the U.S. Southwest; a population they have cultural and linguistic ties to.

They can't afford to have all those U.S. dollars from the illegals go missing from Mexico's economy.

And certainly after the Fast And Furious act of war against Mexico by the government of the United States that resulted in the deaths of more than 400 Mexican citizens, they are probably justified in this view.

Romney couldn't fix this, why expect Obama to be capable of it? And Sicily and Greece are too far away for us to effectively intervene in Mexican activities along the border or into the Southwest.

116 Why do a group of people who's social and language forebears conquered an area and held it from 1600 to 1840 (240 years) believe that they still have a right to take that area back that they surrendered due to overwhelming force and their incompetence?

That's what cracks me up about AoS.  An off-hand Blossom joke takes a life of its own.

As to the subject, I have no dog in the fight for Hispanic outreach as I belong to no party (and I despise race politics), but I will say that the Chamber of Commerce is gonna get a shock when the amnesties all start saying they need minimum wage and labor costs go thru the roof, and they again raise the minimum wage.

Finally, Russia issues surrender ultimatum to Ukraine forces.  So there's that.

123 My idea of Hispanic outreach is bus ticket to Mexican border town of their choice, a tattoo on their neck so we can tell if they've been here already, and a Laurel and Hardy handshake.

Immigration reform would consist of shutting down any and all asylum seekers for 5 years, a tracking system for anyone gaining a temporary visa, a bond of 10,000$ for that visa (in cash) and proof of verbal literacy in English and verbal and written literacy in THEIR OWN LANGUAGE. (literacy being able to converse adequately and write clearly to the level of freshman in High School here.)

That and the bounty would do the trick. Oh and No Ingles? means NO BENEFITS CHICO.

127 For all those wondering why Republicans want amnesty against the wishes of the base, just think. It is ever so easy to switch parties, you just say the racist nativist base alarmed me and in my GOOD conscience I could not remain there any longer. They are the lowest form of life and traitors to boot. All those extra people who wish to come here should be given the Constitution's Bill of Rights and told to defend them with their lives. That way their country becomes more like the United States and they can stay where they are. Freedom must be paid for via vigilance and sometimes blood.

129 In Houston there is a baseball league (real hardball league) with nothing but players from San Luis Potisi. I asked a guy that played just how many people from SLP were in Houston anyway?! He shrugged and said "Oh, forty or fifty thousand. There's that many in Atlanta too." No amnesty, fuck no. I love the Mexican people. No amnesty. Also no more political refugees at all. The large scale presence of Muslims in western lands has made life more difficult for the native population for no good reason. I have friends who became citizens the legal way. They are furious about amnesty.
