I don't know who torched the oil wells in Syria, but that's usually a sign of desperation. Somebody is on the ropes...
Apple denied trademark for iPad Mini. Might be a kindness...this is a product searching for a market. Too big to be conveniently pocketable, like a phone, but with all the well known usability issues of normal sized tablets magnified by its diminutive stature. Why would anyone buy one, unless... ah... ummm... because its Apple and will impress my friends?

Milton dies rescuing Andrea, who later dies at the hands of the Gov.
Tyreese and his group witness her demise and realize they're prisoners in Woodbury.
Rick's group booby-traps the prison and evacuate before the Gov's entire attacking force is wiped out there, but he escapes next season to further seek vengeance.

I guess that I shouldn't be surprised but I am. I would like to ask this "Pastor" what kind of Christianity he subscribes to? Sowing racial hatred is working out real well in Chicago, Philadelphia, NYC, etc. Mobs of black teens creating havoc and assaulting people. He should be real proud of the work that he, Wright, Sharpton, and Jackson has done.

It's all politics all of the time. I wonder what MLK would think about all of this? He was a man that had flaws as we all do, but I really can't believe that he would recognize this "new" theology as legitimate.
Blacks who are on board with this are sabotaging their own race and creating division that may never heal.

So my predictions for the season finale of The Walking Dead tonight. Skip if you don't want my precognitive potential Spoilers based on other stuff.
The Governor's nerdy minion will try to stop him, and be beaten and mortally wounded. But before he dies will tell Tyrese's group where to find annoying blonde chick. They release her. One of Tyrese's group will die by the end and he will end up joining Rick's group. Annoying blonde gets to be the one to kill the Governor. The prison winds up wrecked too much to be safe and so Rick's group has to leave it and move on.

Nearly 100 million iPads have been sold to date and that's not just because it has Apple on it and people want to be cool.
And no one will ever buy a tablet bigger than a phone and smaller than an iPad.
Oh wait the Kindle is now on its 5th generation and 6 million Kindle Fires were sold in Q4 2012 alone. So maybe there is a market.

I think OPEC will pretty much break themselves before too long. This little skirmish in Syria is just the run-up to a bigger war between Iran and the reactionary/traditionial Sunni Gulf states.
Nukes will ultimately be involved, and I'll bet a lot of oilfield infrastructure will be wrecked. These guys just cannot stand the prosperity. I look for the Russians and the Chinese to come in later and sort it all out, and come to control the oil fields themselves, since we are now so loathe to get into any "foreign entanglements".
And then there is the latest bit of news: Australia and China will now have direct interchange of currency in trading, and no longer use US dollars in the exchanges. The days of the US being the world's reserve currency are now numbered.

Attention please : Due to the crisis created by the sequester, there will be a suspension of the Over Night Thread. Until we get the okay to raise taxes some more.
Our studies show that you people still had enough to eat today with your "religious" holiday. This must stop.
It's only fair.

Like a typical government employee you are of course late. The ONT has been up for 20 minutes.

OK 'rons, shameless bragging. The twin daughters have heard back on all their college applications. One got into U VA, Virginia Tech and Tulane. The other got into U VA also; yesterday she got her admission letter to Georgetown.
Anyone have a spare $200K I can borrow?

Tech is less smug than UVA and better for engineering. I'm biased because I went there. Do not know about Tulane. Tech is probably cheapest of the bunch, but not as good for liberal arts.

The smaller form factor works better for a lot of tasks and is more portable. A gaming tablet with a controller dock (a U-shaped frame that adds buttons and analog directional inputs) using that form factor would still be small enough to be reasonably portable and off a much bigger screen and range of software than the dedicated portable game systems from Sony and Nintendo.
A story that got oft reported this week was that Microsoft has relaxed the minimum display requirements for Win8 and RT to allow for smaller devices. You lose some features like the snap view of multiple apps, though that will probably come back as they extend the feature to allow for more configurations in a pending update. By the time anyone is ready to ship a 7" Win tablet the update will likely be the shipping standard, so scarcely anyone will ever know about the feature restriction for smaller screens.
If Microsoft wanted to have a Xbox portable that would also be the SmartGlass reference platform, a 7" Win RT table with controller dock would be a good way to go. Something like a Tegra 4 could possibly even muster emulation of the original Xbox and have access to that library in addition to newer stuff developed for the WinRT platform. Not a huge selling point but something to distinguish the platform. Given a 720p or better screen, they could also enable the Xbox 360 to act as a game server to allow use of that library, similar to what Nintendo does with the minimal processing in the Wii U controller, which is a thin client connecting to a terminal server.
