Defence Minister Peter MacKay approved a secret electronic eavesdropping program that scours global telephone records and Internet data trails – including those of Canadians – for patterns of suspicious activity.European spying on public (way more than anyone expected was going on at least) to be revealed in 5...4...3...2...Mr. MacKay signed a ministerial directive formally renewing the government’s “metadata” surveillance program on Nov. 21, 2011, according to records obtained by The Globe and Mail. The program had been placed on a lengthy hiatus, according to the documents, after a federal watchdog agency raised concerns that it could lead to warrantless surveillance of Canadians...

What was the name of that department that tried to silence Mark Steyn a few years ago? Human Rights Commission, or something equally misleading.

Posted by: Jean at June 11, 2013 07:14 AM...........LOL. Surprised they didn't have you pull over and go through your whole car. They did that on one of our trips an found an empty clip that got behind the seat of my truck. They went absolutely apeshit. Finally I got pissed and said boys. it's a square piece of metal with a spring in it. The only harm it could do is if someone threw it at you. (Which I would have loved to do). The crescent wrench next to it is more deadly. It only took 11/2 hours and they finally said enjoy your stay. I had all I could do to not say FU. My kids or anyone knows when crossing in, don't say a word unless they ask you a direct question, and if so keep it short as possible. Well off to the salt mines.

Vic Toews on the other had does make one worry. The Minister of Public Safety had made some questionable comments on Bill C-30 (A child protection act) which was to allow the warrant wireless taps of Phones and IP's and only child molesters are the ones objecting to is. Why did they need a warrant if all this time they already had the metadata of those involved in criminal activity. In the end C-30 died and they modified current laws over a new law and authorization.
