Well deserved.  Not only were his actions heroic they were also tactically impressive.  Can never say enough about these men but you can remember them and repeat their stories.  That said, I'd like to repeat one of my favorite citations regard to Lt Chontosh.  In this case it was for the Navy Cross.  John Wayne motherfucker.

 

 For extraordinary heroism as Combined Anti-Armor Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM on 25 March 2003. While leading his platoon north on Highway I toward Ad Diwaniyah, First Lieutenant Chontosh's platoon moved into a coordinated ambush of mortars, rocket propelled grenades, and automatic weapons fire. With coalition tanks blocking the road ahead, he realized his platoon was caught in a kill zone. He had his driver move the vehicle through a breach along his flank, where he was immediately taken under fire from an entrenched machine gun. Without hesitation, First Lieutenant Chontosh ordered the driver to advance directly at the enemy position enabling his .50 caliber machine gunner to silence the enemy. He then directed his driver into the enemy trench, where he exited his vehicle and began to clear the trench with an M16A2 service rifle and 9 millimeter pistol. His ammunition depleted, First Lieutenant Chontosh, with complete disregard for his safety, twice picked up discarded enemy rifles and continued his ferocious attack. When a Marine following him found an enemy rocket propelled grenade launcher, First Lieutenant Chontosh used it to destroy yet another group of enemy soldiers. When his audacious attack ended, he had cleared over 200 meters of the enemy trench, killing more than 20 enemy soldiers and wounding several others. My late Stepfather was a Chief Petty Officer on the aircraft carrier USS Beleau Wood in the Pacific during WWII, and once met Dick Bong, Ace of Aces, after a tactical briefing of some sort, where Bong was giving a lecture to the ship's pilots. In the case above that remark was made about my father by his CO. My dad was dating my Mom at the time and Mom's father had gone to the CO to check out this 'Italian kid' who was dating his Texan daughter. This was just after the war, dad was being trained on a new tank in case they had to go after Hirohito.

I saw Tapper's interview with Romesha. He said his first day there he was like WTF are we doing in this position. The official line is they said that it was there because that's where all the roads intersect the village. Who knows if that's the real reason though.

As an erstwhile--40+ years ago--Infantry lieutenant, I hope the good Sergeant leaves the Army.  I can't imagine telling a MOH noncom what to do about anything.  It's not that I--up to general officers--salute him, it's just that....

273 Thanks to SSG Romesha for his service.    TV was on and I caught the start of Barky's statements at the ceremony and just about raged out.  Partly I suppose I am predisposed to take everything he says in a bad light but from "welcome to the WH on behalf of Michelle and myself" and then lauding himself for sending letters to fallen soldiers and then using this ceremony to talk about a fallen hero (the media will drop everything anytime you want to talk Barry, you could have given the fallen hero a presidential thank-you speech of his own)  grrrrrr.    I didn't hear any more,  would not surprise me if the JEF botched the name or rank of Romesha.   Hell it would not surprise me if he had the speech for the last MOH recipient on his prompter and was just reading that.  

I'm SO ANGRY at all the moochers and white guilters who re-elected this POS.   I can forgive them for not looking past the MBM lies in 2008 but not for ignoring the truth right in front of their eyes.
