It looks like many aspects of the NYSAFE Act are unenforceable.

Wojdan was accused of violating the SAFE Act's restriction concerning the number of rounds of ammunition in a magazine. Police said Wojdan had 10 rounds in a gun, which exceeded the new limit of seven in a magazine.
During a traffic stop, Watson ruled, police have a right to ensure their safety by taking the magazine out of the pistol Â— but they cannot see how much ammunition is in the weapon without a warrant. That's what Wojdan's attorney James Tresmond argued in court.

Dozens Of Guns Lost By The ATF

I'm sure the agents responsible will be held responsible. /sarc

The incidents were catalogued in a report Wednesday by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Internal records obtained by the newspaper reportedly show ATF agents had their guns lost or stolen at least 45 times between 2009 and 2013.

But don't worry, they've recovered some of them.

A home intruder should have listened when the home owner told him she was armed.

The criminal apparently chose not to take her warning seriously and continued to attempt to gain entry into her house. Detroit Police 3rd Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson said the woman Â“told him to stop, but he didnÂ’t listen.Â”
She then fired one shot at the suspect, hitting him in the chest. She immediately called 911 after the shooting.
The man fled on foot and was found near the house shortly after.
Â“He was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival,Â”

13 Third week of using ammo bot sites to find my ammo. Am now turning down alerts due to having procured over 5k rounds of various flavors in three weeks through the mail. Another 2.5k of 22 back ordered. New ammo safe is full. Mrs VIA's fluffy came home Friday. Other than putting buffer tube and stock on second lower, and ordering the MK III, we are done for a while. Well, my birthday is next month...so.

It has to work every time, rain or shine, light or dark, hot or cold, and it has to work if you haven't touched it for a year, and it has to work at a moment's notice. And it has to work in the most bizarre of circumstances, and for whomever you need it to work. Frankly, we're a long way away from technology that can do that electronically while recognizing good guys from bad - and even then, people will work to defeat that technology (EMPs, RFID jammers, or generically what's called ECM). People can go ahead and work on the technology, but trying to mandate it is like trying to ban air travel because some scientists think someday they'll crack quantum teleportation.

He probably dropped a word from that sentence It is forged not "just" machined. Someone in the design or metallurgy department told the Ad guys to highlight that the receiver is "forged". Since forging steel imparts higher strength by changing the steel's microstructure.

If your O3A3 is pristine with matching numbers and has never been modified you should leave it alone. Don't modify the bolt or the stock even if you don't have to drill the scope mount. You'll be glad you didn't.

47 I am going to relate smart gun technology to dishwashers. I just replaced my dishwasher. The previous dishwasher was four years old. The controller card failed. It was a Bosch Dishwasher and I had paid over $800 for it. Yes it was very quiet and it got the dishes very clean. I replaced it with a Whirlpool dishwasher for less than the cost of the replacement electronics. It is not quite as quiet but it cost less than the replacement controller card. Several years ago in a different house I had a Kitchen Aid dishwasher that required a new controller card after about four years. And another one after about two more years.

It seems that the electronics are the likely failure point in modern appliances. The old electromechanical appliances would last for twenty years or more although they had fewer features. There are very few features I want in a gun and those features are provided pretty simply and reliably by mechanical means.

I want the gun to shoot when I pull the trigger and not shoot if I don't. That is it. That is the functionality I want. I don't want any other features. Electronics will not improve on that.

1. Best Case: Refuse entry to nice policeman and get their lawyer on the phone.

2. One likely case: Survive SWAT Breaking down their doors with out anyone dying, except may be thedog. Only bumps and bruises with destroyed doors, furniture, gunsafe. Find out the warrant was bad, but cops not disciplined and no civil suit possible.

3. Possible case: Shot by SWAT who saw cell phone in homeowners hand, and "officer safety!"

4. Eventually: SWAT raid met by armed homeowner. Multiple funerals. And then the fallout happens. Someone decides to go full Dorner. Police get scared, panic and overreact. Innocents get shot and many are killed. Others decide to retaliate. State and Feds go full facist.

I need to get more .38 ammo, we are going to the range again on 3/16, can't wait!! I saw a box of 100 at Big 5 for $50, but it seemed a little pricey. Should I just get it? WTF? Does anyone think that removing a mag from a gun is a good idea? Especially considering it will be a policeman with little or NO familiarity with the gun?

99 Peaches, they tried to make them completely illegal, but the legislators couldn't even get that right, so you can still get them in crippled form. The limitations are complicated (because the law was dumb), but basically your biggest limitation is dinky magazines. There will be more lawsuits. Because it's all unconstitutional anyway.

I am not 100% sure, I thought I read that they passed a law that such guns cannot have the regular magazine release, but have to be "difficult" or something to remove. Maybe it was just pending legislation... Haven't done much research into it, since the price of the things has also kept me out of the market to date.

Not sure what that means. It's a short grip, so I sort of grip it fairly loose with the bottom three fingers and let my index finger point ahead along the forend and my thumb ride up alongside the forend. Whether holding it like that or actually wrapping my hand around it, I found the position to feel weird, and when I put the gun to my shoulder and tried to get on target quickly, the sights didn't align (the front sight was off to the left). Using a standard M4 or carbine forend, my sights align naturally when doing this.

169 USPS isn't *supposed* to ship ammo, guns yes, to an FFL. A while back I ordered 1k of .223, the guy put it in a flat rate box and taped the hell out of it. People ship steel parts in those all the time, plus I'm guessing since the seller was in the rural South, the PO clerk winmed and nodded. When the package arrived, the dist clerk brought it over to me (perks of tbe position, I get my stuff 1st thing in the am), be asked if I'd bought a bunch more silver. "Nope, lead!"

174 Beretta 687 Sliver Pigeon II I had two, but gave them to sons two years ago for Christmas. Dicks was getting out of the high end guns and sold me one for $2400, the list for the II was $3200. I found a second one in AL and they shipped it to me free. The guy told me their wholesale was $2800 and they just want to get them out of the stores. I was happy to help them. 175 160...I did too but I only have 100s not 1000s to spend. Plus, I'm limited to 1000 fps or so to keep the evil black rifle people away. I'm real happy with the one I had tweaked trigger wise, etc. It'll hit pretty accurate at 50 yards if I can hold it.

180 I've read good things about the Crossman 1077, CO2, with a scope, $95 at amazon. In my wishlist, to pick up at a later date. Pump has advantages as well.

Peaches, amazon does have all sorts of accesories, just about all common firearms, from holsters to lasers, cleaning supplies, et al. I just picked up cleaning mats that have exploded diagrams (detail of all the parts and how they go together) for an AR and an XDM. Basically a big mousepad with the diagram printed on it.

I wasn't entirely clear, I meant indexing *against* the grip, as in holding your hand on the forend but against the grip to make sure your hand rests in the same place each time. That's one of the reasons they have stubby little grips (and Magpuls angled forward grip). At least some people find the forward grip useful just for the consistency of hand placement. You can also use a flashlight or other accessory for that.

185 Never tried the CO2s. I suppose they're more accurate than break barrels but I kinda like the pace of cocking and firing them. One thing I learned real fast is not to let the barrel slip out of your hands when you're cocking it. Bent the crap out of the barrel so much I couldn't shoot it.

Oh, I agree. I am pointing out that it is well within the abilities of the US to respond to Russia's aggression without starting WW III like all the lefties on the internet are claiming. Just because the US is not going to be flying the A-10 does not mean that the A-10 could not be used to oppose Russian aggression. Pointing that out helps to underline the fact that TFG is not particularly unhappy with Russian aggression.

I read in "The Gun" that over 100,000,000 Kalashnikovs were manufactured during the Cold War and then stockpiled. I would guess that both Poland and Ukraine could hand them out, one to a customer, to anybody who wanted one. It would be more effective if they don't ask any questions and don't record who they give them to. The main downside to this would be that it would really freak out the EUnuchs and it might make gaining EU membership a lot more difficult. On the other hand, having a government of Russian puppets and Russian troops on your soil would also be an obstacle to EU membership. One of the things that led to the current problems in Ukraine was financial difficulties. Perhaps the Ukraine government could sell Kalashnikovs to any Ukrainian citizen for ten Euros apiece. That would work to solve two problems at once.

205 Peaches, there is an old trick you can try when you first try .357. All shooters have a tendency to death-grip and flinch when they know there is a significant recoil coming, so you can train yourself by pouring out three .38's and three .357's, then looking the other way as you chamber them, for a random mixture.

Your hold, sight picture and trigger take-up are "supposed" to be the same no matter which one you're shooting, so the random aspect helps you to avoid anticipation. You will hate yourself the first time, but quickly learn the value of the exercise.

I've got to warn you again- the difference between the polite "Pow" from a normal 38, and the "Ka-Blam!" from a hot 357 in a short gun is potentially a loss of hearing. Cotton balls for ear plugs will not be enough. Of course, I'm stupid enough to be speaking from experience. Firing a small 357 revolver indoors will definitely change your frame of reference for "loud".

207 @206 Agreed. In addition to the noise difference, the felt recoil of 38s plinking with a short barreled .357 is very manageable, less than nines. Jump up to some hot 158 grain .357s and it's a hand cannon.

Def recommend decent earpro for shooting .357. Never shot it in a short barrel, and strangely, never shot .38 in it. Dad has a 6" Ruger, which I was glad to have with me on a camping trip 20 years ago that involved close contact with a bear. Twice in the same night/morning. Didn't have to use, but shocked the campground by only yelling and scaring him off instead of shooting him, after he shredded a convertible top and was tearing through the back seat to reach the trunk. Ah, good times.

Shooting .357 will readily identify any loose fillings. Shooting a .357 in a hallway at night will blond and deafen you, in addition to identifying any loose fillings.

I love .357 almost as much as .45ACP

230 222 - Armscor (Rock Island Armory & Citadel) are decent entry level (~$400) 1911s. Just bought a compact (3-1/2" barrel) in .45ACP.

My only gripe is the finish started wearing after 200 rounds. Getting it Cerakoted flat black ($100). Also adding Trijicon night sights (~$120).

I looked at Springfield Armory, and the prices were >$1100.

I took it apart before I took it to the range. Cleaned and oiled it and looked closely at everything. Had some very minor scuffs on the bolt but nothing some 0000 steel wool didn't fix. I use Hoppes #9 oil and solvent to clean it and it works very time. I shoot Federal or Winchester 230 grain FMJ at the range.

Be aware that Remington has a $75 rebate on R1's. Locally they're $625, so you're looking at $550. Remmie has QC issues with a lot of their line, but I've heard good things about R1's.

In regards to the Detroit shooting, that Blaze article is very incomplete. The dead perpetrator had a history of trying to break into homes and his family stated on camera that they kept trying to convince him to stop his life of crime In this instance, he had a brick in his hand and was trying to break a window. The woman who shot him warned him twice that she would shoot him and finally did it, not sure if she shot through the window or if he had already broken the glass out. She shot him twice, then called 911. I saw the video of the incident, the police were actually pretty accepting of the woman's story and sympathetic, the woman did not appear on camera and the police officer(female) said she was quite upset to learn the man died. Something that is discussed in both Andrew's book from a legal perspective and in other books from a mental perspective is the struggle survivors often have with knowing they have taken a life. I've read that men often have more difficulty with this aspect than women, because they don't get the help they might need, they tend to think they are supposed to just suck up their feelings about this.
