Support Your Local Ewok
— rdbrewer

Morning, Morons! Ace's bacon supply is getting low. If you haven't already, please hit the PayPal button on the left and send him a little fatback money. Or buy your Subtle Butt disposable gas neutralizers through the Amazon link on the right.

As LauraW mentioned a while back, Ace never asks us to put on one of these Ace-o-Thon subscription drives. He's a little modest about that. The cob-loggers got together and realized it had been a while since the last one. So everyone, if you can, chip-in and help keep this pirate ship sailing.

And I am getting irritated because discussions are getting truncated.

Oh, and I see THIS thread has been stomped by Ace with another video.

I am going to go clean the kitchen.  Bah.

When you search Amazon through     Ace,    you'll see that the URL when you're at Amazon will reference AOSHQ.   As long as you see "AOSHQ" referenced in the URL as you're clicking around on Amazon, you're good.

EXAMPLE:  http://www.amazon.com/s/?tag=aoshq-20&link...

27 So, seriously: We are at a very dangerous moment in this country.

Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Association and Freedom of Speech cannot co-exist with queer marriage.

There is a reason they keep calling it a "civil right."

Here's the problem: We didn't protect the First Amendment rights (Association and Speech) of racist business owners--no matter that they were nasty, vile people--and now we will soon find out just how poor a choice that was.

By around June 15th, your church will be an enemy of the state.

39 Speaking of baconz, I spent yesterday after the Comcast technician installed our Xfinity phone and promptly killed cable, the phone, and teh internet (and then took four hours to come back and fix his fuck-up), thinning the "herd" of cookbooks and recipes.

Found a turkey recipe I'd forgotten about, where thick slices of bacon are woven over the top of the turkey.  Covering it.  Completely.

Keeping that recipe.

Random thoughts on the business model...

The tin cup model is a time-tested way to support websites that people enjoy.  There is no shame in passing the hat to help defray the costs and give the host a little something for the effort.

If AllenG ever starts a blog, this would be good way to go.  However, if he ever reached the stellar heights of being the CPAC Blog of the Year, you would hope a certain level of financial success would accompany the title.

A reasonably big time website should generate a fairly decent amount of revenue from ads, but a number of blogs you would think should be doing well struggle.  Why?

Well, at first glance it would appear that the agency selling the ads has different goals than the websites they represent.  By trying to position themselves as the agency that can represent all websites selling ads and all customers buying ads, they explicitly exclude certain demographics and advertisers so as not to offend.

Some websites are relatively offensive just by their nature.  I'm certain that if a poll were conducted of New York liberals, the Ace of Spades HQ would be declared an offensive hate site for hating haters.  Because of this, the business model must be reviewed.

One way to make the website less offensive to the general populus and more friendly to advertisers would be to change the thrust from humorous political banter to recipes and crafts.  Plenty of AoS commenters are excellent cooks and some are gifted home crafts people.

Another road to consider would be to engage an agency less committed to Bloombergesque moral purity, that would take advantage of the demographic already assembled here.

Without trying to be funny, the most lucrative advertising targets for the AoS demographic would be:

Liquor

Cigarettes

Guns

The point is that the internet isn't television, radio or newpapers.  Instead of a scattershot appeal to everyone, websites provide a laser-like market in very narrowly defined demographics.  Intermarkets has the ability to exploit this type of microtargeting, but it appears the desire on their part to remain squeaky clean outweighs their client's interests.

Not that it matters.  Just sayin'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Americans are less confident in the economy than they were last month as massive government spending cuts stoke economic uncertainty.

The March confidence index fell to 59.7 from a revised reading of 68 in February. That's also below the 68.7 reading that analysts polled by research firm FactSet expected.
