Surprise! Obamacare Causing Problems At The Doctor's Office
— Open Blogger

If only someone, or an entire political party, had warned the citizenry that this was coming. If only...

Aliso Viejo resident Danielle Nelson said Anthem Blue Cross promised half a dozen times that her oncologists would be covered under her new policy. She was diagnosed last year with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and discovered a suspicious lump near her jaw in early January.

But when she went to her oncologist's office, she promptly encountered a bright orange sign saying that Covered California plans are not accepted.

"I'm a complete fan of the Affordable Care Act, but now I can't sleep at night," Nelson said. "I can't imagine this is how President Obama wanted it to happen."

To hold down premiums under the healthcare law, major insurers have sharply cut the number of doctors and hospitals available to patients in the state's new health insurance market.

When asked about this Obama said:

I'm tired of dumb people not getting that adding millions to a system was going to cost more (a lot more), make waits longer, that not every treatment was covered and that it was not "free." And what kind of idiot are you that you don't get that if the number of doctors stays the same or is reduced, but more patients are added to the system, you have to wait a hell of a lot longer.

39 Since we now have a whole thread on this story, I'll repeat why I said in the dump: “I’m a complete fan of the Affordable Care Act, but now I can’t sleep at night,” Nelson said. “I can’t imagine this is how President Obama wanted it to happen.” This is what slays me. These mouthbreathing museum grade morons actually believe "Obama cares about me" and conversely "Romney doesn't care about anything but his own money". Look at polling, "cares about me" was the ONLY metric that Obama won with the electorate, and he won 80%-20%. This, right here, is the effect of a MSM that's really a propaganda department. It's breathtaking in it's audacity and in its absolute 180 degree reversal of reality, anyone who took even a cursory look at the history of these two men quickly realized that Obama never, ever cared for anyone except himself, and Romney lived his life with a servant's heart. News flash Danielle, sweety, Obama doesn't give even a shit to what happens to you. If it came down to a choice between second helpings of wagyu beef for him or your chemotherapy to save your life, not only would he not have any second thoughts, you wouldn't merit a first one, or any thought at all. He'll have his medium rare.

Doctor's don't "accept" insurance- they "contract" (or not) with insurance. It's not that the Dr. chose not to accept BCBS- it's that BCBS chose not to accept the Doctor. She can still see her Dr. It'll just be an out-of-network visit, meaning it applies to a higher deductible (usually) and has a higher patient share once the deductible is met. From previous thread: 374 "Doesn't justify wishing death on someone, but it certainly puts things in perspective."

I disagree. While I would not wish suffering for an enemy except in the most extreme circumstances, such as child molesters and other sorts of depraved, I find nothing wrong in wishing the death of my enemies.

Notice I said enemies and not opponent. It is fine to have a political disagreement. Such would fall into the category of opponent.

But I can only call someone who seeks to enslave and or kill my children an enemy. And I most fervently would wish death upon them so that my family may survive.

So how else should I see the leftists who seek to place the yolk of slavery upon my children and threaten their very survival as anything but an enemy? Should I not wish an enemy to die before they kill my children?

Danielle Nelson is "a complete fan of the Affordable Care Act," and coincidentally, an ignorant slut!

Danielle was elated when she thought some other working slub was paying for her care, but is now less than enthusiastic when she's required to pay for her own care.

She should consider purchasing Velvet Jones book "So You Wants to be a Ho" and learn the finer points of flat-backing to pay the bills.  It's only fair!

Nasty stuff. I feel for her and others in this situation, even though I can't help but think about how many of the very people now suffering blindly voted this guy in and gave the Dems the power to enact this.

I did not realize how quickly it would all go bad, but it did not take rocket science to see where it would head at some point.

And I wonder if anyone remembers several years ago, of Obama's ACA "Czar" saying bluntly that anyone who did not realize the act would be a significant income transfer plan had not been paying attention. I thought that was a pretty huge admission, but I guess it's gone down the Ministry of Truth's memory hole. Never heard of it again, wiped clean.

Actually, no.  There's a doctor in Texas who said that she is no longer taking BCBS due to fundamental unilateral changes in the terms of the contract which she does not accept and BCBS is saying no you have to take the insurance since we still think you are in the network.   The next step is telling physicians who are not part of a network at all that they have to take the contract rates despite not being in the network at all.  Remember, that's already being discussed under guise of insurance companies continuing to pay for treatment under cancelled policies.

163 Posted by: alexthechick - We beseech thee of great SMOD at February 05, 2014 12:49 PM (Gk3SS) Okay... yes. A doctor *can* specifically opt out of an insurance network, but it's fairly rare. Self-pay patients are notorious for lacking the second-half of that term, so doctors tend to accept as many forms of insurance as is feasible. And, as for those "unilateral contract changes:" as a former BCBS employee, I heard that a lot from providers. It was true (even on its face) maybe 1 time in 50. The rest of the times were not "contract changes" but compensation changes- which are built into those contracts. Of that 1-in-50, the changes were never (to my knowledge) "unilateral" on the part of BCBS- many of them were legislative/regulatory changes, and the rest tended to be a reinterpretation of an existing contract clause (reinterpretation as in: "wait... treatment for alcoholic liver cirrhosis is treatment for illness or injury due to alcoholism, which we specifically exclude. We shouldn't have paid all those claims..."). And, in the posted quote, it is strongly implied that this was an insurance decision- not a doctor's decision.

I have a broke-ass relative that I'm trying to help by finding Medicaid doctors for her. Twice I've called doctor's and asked if they accept Medicaid and just heard "No." followed by click.

I'm thinking lots of people are being shunted on the Medicaid. These doctor's offices must be getting flooded with calls of people trying to find a doc. I've never been treated so rudely by any doctor, dentist, medical provider of anything. Never had this sort of experience my entire life.

But, man, once I mention the word Medicaid they immediately hang-up. No. Click. Goodbye. Go fuck yourself.

238 @108 - Someday I'm going to write my grand signal-to-noise opus. Every stable system has to be able to tolerate a certain amount of noise in its signal. Whether you're talking about malformed Ethernet packets on your local network or welfare cases as a percentage of the total population or food impurities in the human body, any stable system either by design or by evolution accommodates a certain amount of chaff with the wheat with only nominal degradation. But...performance degradation as the signal-to-noise ratio falls off is not a linear relationship. Eventually the rise in the curve gets quite sharp. And systems engineered or evolved to perpetually handle low signal-to-noise conditions are very costly and generally quite inefficient. And so you have our healthcare system as it had evolved, where the cost of Medicaid and the underinsured were 'disappeared' into the larger money flows so long as they were a small fraction of the total and the system could afford to do so. Obamacare does not change the basic nature of the equation, it just pushes us a long way up that curve. The British NHS does change the architecture of the system, by making most of the medical workforce employees of the government. Note I'm not saying that this is a *good* thing, or necessarily a *bad* thing, it's just a *thing*.

From the cooments of that LATimes story:

LibertyFirst1776_ at 9:59 AM February 5, 2014

I can vouch for this.  Had a family plan for 10 years.  Cancelled Dec 31 and new "Obamacare"-ready plan took effect Jan 1.  Old plan had $150 hospital copay.  New plan has $4k deductible.  Had a medical emergency Jan 23 in the middle of the night - rushed to ER.  A month before it would have cost me $150, under my "improved" Obamacare-ready plan I am out $4k and counting.

After I stabilized I needed to find a specialist and a new primary care doc.  Started going down the extensive list provided by the insurance company.   Call after call, "we are not accepting new patients" or "please join our concierge service at X dollars per month".  I contacted my ER doc and had him refer me to a colleague who made an exception and accepted me as a patient.

On the upside, this is gonna thin out the human herd quicker than a pack of hungry leopards on the Atkins.

She's "all in" with OCare, and she'll never believe that the problem is with the Prog/Commie idea. For those on the fence, you have to do several things: 1- Point out how OCare hurts/costs them. 2- Point out how a Conservative solution would help. 3- Point out how OCare hurts/costs society. 4- Point out how a Conservative solution would help. But before those, you first have to *reach them.* And that's really where our problem lies. The GOP (and other Conservative groups) need to start making PSAs and paying to have them aired. Blitz the airwaves with "this is how ObamaCare hurts you." Then blitz the airwaves with "Conservative solution X (say... insurance across State lines- just to pick one at random) fixes problem Y."

Reality. A mugging thereby. Some assembly required.

Of course, what Obama and his acolytes "wanted to happen" _really was_ for everyone everywhere to get top shelf health insurance that paid for every imaginable desire, and that actually did cost less than health insurance had cost previously.

And what they ought to have added to their wish list of things that they "wanted to happen" was to have tame whales pull boats full of happy revelers through seas of sweet lemonade, because the whole kit and kaboodle of things that they "wanted to happen" was completely irrational magical thinking from the get-go.

267 You know, as someone who has been up close and personal to watching a trusted person lie to you and betray you at the worst possible time, I understand exactly how she can sit there and justify this. You still love the person, so you go into denial, etc, etc. Usually happens to folks who are in relationships with people with personality disorders. They dominate you and take over your personality.

That's all well and good, except for one critical thing. The betrayer here is a STRANGER who this woman doesn't know from Adam, but yet she's reacting like she just found out her husband emptied the bank account and flew to Barbados. That right there is all the evidence you ever need to see to know that Democrats are entirely emotional in their politics, that their thought process is actually somewhat pathological, and that logic or reality will NEVER penetrate.

That woman might DIE because of this, and she can't muster the anger to tell Wonderboy and his glorious plan to fuck off. Savage was right... liberalism is a mental disorder.

Because he did, and so did Max Baucus, Nancy Pelosi and all the other evil-doers in Congress. Once she realizes what she herself enabled she will be on the road to fixing the problem.

271 If we can't convert moderate democrats we're doomed to lose. Maybe it's time to get my cut of the free cake, we can't win, or so they say.

See what I did there? That's the end game for not converting mistakes made by the opposition.

272 we'll never convince this one. She's "all in" with OCare, and she'll never believe that the problem is with the Prog/Commie idea.

Well, given her cancer, and lack of options for treating it, I'd guess that won't be a problem for too long.

273 Don't worry, sweetie. On your deathbed you'll still be able to look back on how cool it was to vote for a black guy.

So she's got that going for her.  Which is nice.

239: "How do we convince these people that conservatism is the best way out of this mess? The "I told you so" refrain is pretty thin gruel at this point. We simply won't win elections if we can't convert the disillusioned.

I want results, not barbed *ock dressed in triumphalism."

When you are able to come up with such a plan or methodology, I will support it.

Until then, all I have is the barbed cock of Schadenfreud.

Paraphrase: "I'm a complete fan of putting the government in absolute control of the most intimate decisions in the most private ares of peoples' lives, but just not MY life, "Nelson said. 277 "Next up will be doctors must accept Obamacare policies and then the 13th Amendment suits will hit the fan."

Longstanding prediction here: that if not repealed, Obamacare will, and must, result in the forcible impressment into service of health professionals. Who the government will require to work for less money than they think they ought to receive for their services.

Including inter alia certain blocs of unionized health professionals (cough NURSING UNIONS cough) who had been extremely avid supporters of and organizers for Comrade Ogabe.

So....guaranteed drain on the system, gets discounted, subsidized price.

Median household income in Downey, CA: $53,202.

Seems our "tax preparer" is hiding some $25,000 in income to qualify for the "big government subsidy."

283 ""How do we convince these people that conservatism is the best way out of this mess? The 'I told you so' refrain is pretty thin gruel at this point."

I have mentioned that I actually met someone who was bitching about having had her hours at work reduced from full to part time because of "That damned ACA Act thingy."

Not realizing that ACA and Obamacare are one and the same.

This confusion is, I postulated, in part a result of deliberate obfuscation by the left, and sure enough, I was able to tot up repeated examples of cases in which Democrats referred to parts of Obamacare which poll-test well as "Obamacare", but blame the unpopular parts on the "Affordable Care Act".

So, to the list of things that have to be figured out, add a way to reliably puncture that particular bit of imposture. Which may also be being aided and abetted by abject self-delusion of the type Ms. Nelson displays. ("I know they say these bad things are because of Obamacare. But, Obama. Who can do no wrong. So it must instead be because of the ACA. That's it. Bad, bad ACA!")

Jimmy Kimmel had a segment on his show where he asked random people on the street which they preferred.  Amazing that many people chose one or the other not knowing it was the same thing.

292 Millions of people like this lady are going to be in jeopardy because they simply don't have enough information about how terrific-sounding socialist plans boomerang to hurt them. Yes, she's clueless, but the major media bears strong responsibility for her woes. Hear me out nowÂ… she likely trusted her TV network that worked as propaganda for Obamacare and actively suppressed conservative views while blackballing Republicans and their warning messages. I understand personal responsibiity and that with a few clicks of a mouse this lady could have heard the other side. But the point is, she trusted what she was told by her president and his major media lapdogs. Now she's going to pay an enormous price for her trust, probably with her health, and maybe with her life. If any good comes out of Obamacare, I hope it's the re-education of the American public about how free capitalism works for betterment, and the shaming of major media held accountable.

One of my friends is a 55 year old lifelong leftist, industrial plumber/contractor and works sunrise to sunset. Family of three. Wife is stay at home mom. His 2014 quarterly taxes and health care costs increased by something like 15-28%.

He refuses to admit Obamacare/ACA was a bad idea, even when it's costing him money. He sends his daughter to a private Catholic school instead of  public schools because public schools suck.

He certainly isn't stupid, but he's as stubborn as a mule and will never admit to being wrong, especially to me.

So he votes for Jerry Brown and Obama because he hates Republicans more than he hates paying taxes.
