I witnessed a conversation recently. Some teachers were recently talking about how they were scoring the subjective portion of a test designed to see where students stood in terms of what they had been learning. One teacher said, "I think I am going to give some of my kids a 4 (the highest value) because they have tried really hard." The other teachers all said that they didn't see where any of their kids had reached a mastery level to receive that score. She said, "But they've been trying hard haven't they?" Fortunately, she retires at the end of the year.
