Ted Cruz: This Gang of 8 Bill Is a "Disaster"

I haven't been following the insider-deal politics of this but I gleaned from AllahPundit that Cruz had been taking a low profile on the issue, mostly.

Not anymore, it seems.

All out.

"This gang of 8 bill is a disaster", Cruz began. "We're hearing the exact same empty promises as 1986. It grants legalization now, and promises that sometime in the future, trust us *wink wink* we'll secure the border. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame in me."
Asked about the motivations of Democrats and Republicans for pushing amnesty, Cruz said, "Democrats want it for pure politics. No citizenship, no bill. They want more Democrat voters, or have it voted down and use it as a political issue in 2014/2016."
On the Republican side, he said, a lot of the support is unfortunately political, as well. "After 2012, all the Washington political consultants and MSM came to Republicans said you've got to do better with Hispanics, and the way to do better with Hispanics is amnesty, and Republicans are scared." Cruz said that argument is nonsense, but there are a lot of Republicans who are scared and listening to the consultants.

On that last point: When people are scared and confused, and dumb, they'll listen to anyone who tells them something with Confidence and Spreadsheets. That's how I wound up thinking, "Man, this blogging thing is going to be the Wave of the Future."

I don't think we should overlook the fact that consultants all tend to be from the same social class and will tend to have (as all social classes do) a degree of groupthink.

I was once offered some very minor consulting-style work and the guy told me that was the key. Just basically, "Pick something out of your data and sell it with confidence, even if you don't actually have much confidence."

People who hire consultants want ACTION ITEMS and they want it in all caps, just like that.

I know people in the polling biz, too, who are forever overstating their conclusions (ignoring the actual math which counsels that there is little correlation between one factor and the other) because that's what their clients want, DEFINITIVE STATEMENTS ABOUT A PERFECTLY-KNOWABLE FUTURE.

So if any boys or girls are ever unsure if someone "like-likes" you, look to that: If they frequently mimic your tics of speech, sayings, etc., they like-like you. If they don't, they don't.

anyway, I think people just do this, not just in love/friendship situations, but just in Social Survival situations, trying to fit in, as we always do.

49 Here is a story about consultants. I developed a process for performing an action required by the government. I took what had been a major undertaking and streamlined it making it perform the same function with a lot less work.

Of course it got audited and the auditors were happy. The told other people about it. A "consultant" got wind of it and sold the process to one of out sister plants in the same company.

IOW, they sold my company my own work.

111 What the hell are Republicans scared of? Over the last 30+ years they have averaged 30% of the hispanic vote. I think some of them think they'll force a race conflict. That Hispanics will feel as if they are the top minority now but are not getting the due consideration that blacks get now. They'll feel resentful as the social safety net frays under the burden of the Obamadebt and that their hard work (or at least the hard work of the family member who started the migration chain) is all for nothing.
