Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.

I havenÂ’t been telling any Hollywood stories lately, since my repertoire is getting scanty (and, frankly, IÂ’ve been too depressed to do much more than drink and bitch online).  IÂ’m going to be away next week, holing up in a little Maine cabin to relax and recharge.  So before I go, hereÂ’s a story about Katharine Hepburn – not my favorite actress, but I know a lot of you like her.  So here goes. . .

In 1947, Hepburn was cast as Clara, the wife of composer Robert Schumann, in Song of Love.  Director Clarence Brown had arranged a prop piano for her* so that she could pretend to play while the great Arthur Rubinstein would perform on the soundtrack.

Hepburn would have none of it.  “Nonsense!  The idea that IÂ’m going to pound at some goddamned keyboard.  Rubinstein can carry the bulk of the works, but IÂ’m going to lead in with the first few bars, and IÂ’ll bet nobody knows the difference!”

For a few weeks, Hepburn studied with a professional pianist, then shot the scene.  After viewing the rushes, Rubinstein shook his head in disbelief.  “If I hadnÂ’t seen it and heard it with my own eyes and ears, I wouldnÂ’t have believed it.  That woman is incredible – she actually does play almost as well as I do.  And when she ends and I begin, only I in the whole world could tell the difference!”

Here she is, with co-star Paul Henreid as Schumann:

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

26 Everything we know about everything comes to us from the news media, everything they know comes to them from their sources.

Do you trust your government?

Health care is now completely controlled by your government. The government will decide how much money they will take from you for 'health insurance'. The government will decide how much they will pay medical professionals to provide healthcare, what healthcare will be provided, and who gets it.

Most importantly, once the government has taken what money it wants from those who have more than they need, the government can then spend that money however it chooses.

From each according to ability to pay, to each according to need.

Poor people don't get money, they get government services; health care, housing, food.

Welcome to your future.

Good news, every Juan!:

As immigrant rights advocates in California celebrated a landmark law Thursday granting driver's licenses to people who are in the country illegally, other states with similar provisions offered a glimpse of potential pitfalls, including rampant identity fraud and little improvement to public safety.

The state can learn a lot about potential problems from New Mexico, which has issued more than 90,000 driver's licenses to foreign nationals since 2003, said Demesia Padilla, that state's secretary for taxation and revenue. "It's been a disaster," Padilla said. "We have had a lot of identity fraud."

The state has broken up fraud rings that used false addresses and fraudulent lease and utility documents to obtain driver's licenses for immigrants who live in other states, she said.

A 2011 study published in the Journal of Insurance Regulation suggested that in states that grant driver's licenses to such immigrants, the rate of uninsured motorists had increased by almost 2%, resulting in more fatal car crashes.

32 Murder Victim The employer Dr. Barry Weiss' story did an about face. Yesterday she was happy all the time, and he would NEVER in a thousand years imagine that she had anything to do with what he was hearing on the news. Today, he's selling a new story: she suffered a fall once and thereafter was trouble, trouble, trouble, got herself pregnant with an unwanted baby (hence a "bad mother"), and she was mean to clients, so he fired her. Take your pick. /A deal he couldn't refuse.

33 Where is the money coming from for the wire? I blathered away about the Lavabit thing yesterday so I'll sum up. I am deeply suspicious of giving the Feds the encryption key and trusting the they will use it only on the emails for which they have a subpoena. I am deeply concerned that the same setup (single SSL encryption key for all users) can be used to for nefarious purposes. The Lavabit guy appears to have violated Rule One for dealing with the courts, i.e., never piss off the judge, so no sympathy for him on that. I don't know what I think about the whole sorry we have to have it in real time claims. I can see why it would be useful and I can also see why the Feds would be concerned that they weren't actually getting all the emails. But it looks like the Lavabit guy was trying to help, to a point. The real time claims put paid to my suggestion for third party decryption with only spot checking that it was working and then in camera review. That is impossible to implement. I honestly don't know what to think. It all comes back to the fact that, no, no, I do not trust the Feds to only look through one person's emails if they have the key to the kingdom. I don't trust me not to do that. Of course they're going to look. That's human nature. Stupid reality being all stupid messy.

40 The 95-96 shutdown was over passing a law, the 1861 shutdown was over repealing a law no one but Democrats wanted.

The 2013 shutdown is, again, over repealing a law no one but Democrats want.

And, once again, the Democrats are in favor of slavery.

The first time, they supported the enslavement of man by another man.

Today, they support the enslavement of man by government.

And the LIV are drinking the kool aid.

48 Obama's shutdown mendacity is much worse than just shutting down the WWII monument:

"Shawn Moran, Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, spoke exclusively with Breitbart News and claimed that Border Patrol management has begun the practice of ordering Border Patrol Agents to stand down and cease pursuing drug smugglers, human smugglers and traffickers, and illegal aliens."

That's right: Border Patrol is apparently non-essential in Obama's world. Or, he thinks it's a fitting punishment to open our borders as part of his "Obey Me, Congress, or Else" temper tantrum.

Wait. I take that back.

Because there is no "thought" put into it--it's blind hate of Republicans/"Go Team Dem!"

Because her whole reason for her being is "moar abortions!"

In Texas.

Where we've had several Premeditated Murder clinics shut down in the last few years because they're broke. (Don't buy the shit about how the new law shut them down, that's an excuse 'cause the law hadn't gone into effect.)

Not part of that story? How the public, clamoring for more abortions, stepped up and made sure those murder factories would stay open.

What I really want to know is: What in the world did they tell the Commie Castro of San Antone to keep him from running?

140 I believe individuals possess certain inalienable rights that ought not be subject to the whim of the majority. Writers on Natural law regarded these rights as self evident. Among them are the rights of self defense, and the right to keep the fruits of your own labor. The corollary to this is that there ought to be a boundary of taxation which the Majority may not cross, whether they have the votes or not. Why must we constantly have to defend ourselves from these bastards who attempt to oppress us by confiscating the fruits of our labor? Where did this notion that they have a right to do such a thing ever enter into the public mindset? I contend that they do not, nor have they ever had a right to tax us beyond a certain amount. Majority be damned.

162 Federalist 58. The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure.

The only way for them to feel better about is to scream abortion for anyone anywhere and at anytime to make up for the mistake they made in their younger days and somehow in their minds that makes it seemOK for what they did when they were younger. Meanwhile in the Golden State, the GOP -- well, the GOP:

As California Republicans gather in Anaheim this weekend for their biannual convention, they will prepare for an election in which the party is likely to all but abstain from the gubernatorial race and other statewide contests, which are widely considered out of RepublicansÂ’ reach.

Instead, they will focus their limited resources on congressional races and a small group of legislative contests in Southern California and the Central Valley. If Republicans can hold the seats they now occupy and pick up a handful of Democratic-held districts, the party within a year could pull itself back from near-irrelevancy in the Legislature.

211 Posted by: JackStraw at October 04, 2013 10:21 AM (g1DWB) You do know that once a suspect abandons their weapon, authorization for use of deadly force goes away, yes? So if a bad guy is in a stand-off with a cop, and bad guy has a gun, cop is authorized to use deadly force (actually, he isn't- not until the bad guy actually tries to shoot). Now, there are lots of jots and tittles around that, but it's a good rule of thumb. However, if the bad guy throws his gun away, the cop no longer gets to shoot- even if the suspect flees. He can chase, but not shoot. (again: jots and tittles). In this case, the deadly weapon was a car. Once she abandoned the car, she had relinquished her deadly weapon. In general (jots & tittles) the cops should not have had authorization to fire at that point. I'm sorry, but I don't accept the current Police State as the Right Way. To my knowledge, she was never actually a danger to anyone except herself (and her child), and she certainly wasn't one once she stopped the car and tried to run away. DC is not a war-zone. Cops are not Marines or Soldiers.

214 Following the cancellation of the military airshow at Miramar Marine Base, civilians stepped up to carry out the airshow in private planes at their own expense. Now the Department of Defense has canceled that, too. According to the Los Angeles Times, the military involvement in the airshow was canceled once sequestration took effect in the Spring of this year. Following that cancellation, "military officials... insisted... the Miramar show would continue with civilian planes and pilots and with 'static displays' on the ground of Marine fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. Marines would also be ready to explain the [aircraft specifics] to air show visitors." But on October 3, Marine officials confirmed the private air show was canceled due to the federal government's shutdown. The Miramar Air Show is "often billed as the most heavily attended in the nation," but even a privatized version of it will not be allowed to happen as long as the government's doors are closed. Keep in mind that sequestration started rolling on August 2, 2011, when President Obama signed sequestration cuts into law. It's a base instinct: If everyone is a sinner, if everyone will sin like me, then my sins aren't so bad.*

God messes that up, angers them, puts the lie to their rationalization; what with being sin-free and all.

So: Everyone must sin but God does not exist.

Hey, no one said they were logically consistent people.

*Which is stupid. No one ever said, "the more I sin, the happier I am." And for sins, I mean not the religious but all that behavior which debases or is ruinous.

293 The secret to the Democrats being able to control this country is the illusion that there actually is a struggle for control between the Democrats and the Republicans. The Republicans are not the foes of the Democrats, but they play it on TV. The Democrats control the Federal Government, several State governments, the MFM, and the Education Gulag Archipelago. They are not concerned about the squeaks and squeals that come from radio and the internet and the few remaining non-Democrat seats of power. The GOP is just another tool in the Democrat shed. The TEA Party is their true foe because it is what the GOP pretends to be: they enemy of the Democrats. The TEA Party is the last chance the fading Republic has for throwing off the chains. You are acting like it doesn't concern you if she was shot after she had been forced from the car or not.  The Police DO NOT have the power of summary execution based upon action.  They are supposed to apprehend people so that they can be tried.

I fail to see how killing wacko Dental Hygenists who may have been forced off the road improves our security or addresses any of the litany of problems you mentioned.  I'm very, very sorry for the DC police, but when you shoot an unarmed woman who has her kid in the car, it will invite scrutiny.  It's the damndest thing about having a gun and authority; people have expectations for how you will act.

306 Visited the Flight 93 memorial yesterday. Closed, of course. Drove around to the original entrance, hopped the fence plastered with Federal "Closed Due To Emergency Conditions" signs, and hiked 2 miles or so, to pay respect to the heroes on that plane. An 80-ish year old Korean War vet-and his wife-visiting PGH from San Antonio joined me. He wasn't about to be stopped.

But that wouldn't "make it hurt."

I really do hope this "shutdown" lasts for a while,  and that the  GOP  somehow manages  to stay on message that it's this administration that's causing it.

Perhaps  a few LIV's  will wake up.

Also, "live" Christmas trees had to be shaken vigorously before coming inside to loosen the "waterbugs" (aka, giant cockroaches). Our joke in Houston was that if we saw a partially-finished property, we weren't sure if it was going up or coming down, that's how brutal the heat, rain, and humidity was.

And apparently that's when she was shot. >>Recent news is not relevant in use of force cases. Really. A week ago this place was all atwitter when reports of terrorists calmly walked into a mall and slaughtered dozens of people. Some reports link that attack to a white woman with a bunch of kids. And you don't think cops have been trained to adjust their response in the times that we now live in? Have you seen DC since 9/11? It is like an armed camp. I will repeat, she hit and hospitalized a secret service agent will she was driving irrationally and endangered lots of people. Do you really want cops to stop, run her plates, get a search warrant for her home and interview her relatives to see if she has some issues before acting? She was pulled over after ramming the gates. 6 cops had her surrounded with guns drawn and she rammed a police car and hit secret service agent while getting away the first time. That's when the shots started. Go watch the video again. Anyone who has ever been pulled over by the cops for a traffic stop knows the last thing you ever do is get out of the car. That goes double after you have already hit a cop, been shot at by the cops, led them on a high speed chase which wrecked another cop car and crashed in front of the Capital.

Well crap. I didn't even think about that.
================
That's what I keep saying!!

The 4th Amendment was written because the Founders were well familiar with the practice of the police "planting" evidence. Or just flat-out lying to obtain an arrest.

You tell me: If the FBI shows up with a cache of kiddie porn that they say they pulled from your emails, how are you going to prove they didn't come from you?

Or dial it down a bit: What's to stop them from "spoofing" your IP and posting racist or terrorist threats? And then "leaking" that to a friendly source?

Look how quick they fingered the film-maker guy over Bengazi. Now, what do you think they can do if they've time to plan it?

I don't think it's what they had on the Piss-Yellow Coward John Roberts, I think it's what they told him and showed him they could and would do that turned him.

Remember when it used to be "better 100 criminals go free than one innocent man go to jail?"
Now it's "better 100 innocent men go to jail than one bureaucratic unionized law officer have to follow the Constitution."

Posted by: RoyalOil at October 04, 2013 07:03 AM (VjL9S)

341 258. Unarmed is unarmed, regardless. And unless the Muslim male were wearing Muslim clothing, scarf or cap, or symbolic jewelry, the male could not have been visually identified as "Muslim". The driver was not allowed to speak. And having a "swarthy" complexion is not reason to murder an unarmed and non-confrontational person. If someone was wearing baggy clothing that might be hiding explosives, or is shouting in a foreign tongue rather than speaking in conversational tone in an attempt to communicate amicably, then a defensive posture is a natural response. Defensive postures are not all-response-the-same regardless of circumstances. Go fix your own patterned inconsistencies.

373 sometimes cops get shot dead during a traffic stop. They take the traffic stop encounter very very seriously

Posted by: Jones in CO at October 04, 2013 11:06 AM (8sCoq)

A lot of times innocent people get shot by overzealous cops too.

This 'get to the end of your shift alive' mentality, like these cops are in 'the shit' and every person is a potential madman, is dangerous. I don't much like the idea of living in a state where a policman has broad latitude on when he can dispense summary execution.

Don't ever get out of the car unless you are told to. Go watch the video I posted up thread of the guy who was pulled over for speeding. He got out of his car. Cop told him repeatedly to get back in his car. Guy pulled a weapon he had hidden and shot the cop. He also had 3 little kids in his car so the kid in the car rule is a bit flexible. You are asking for trouble if you get out of your car without being told to.

393 After the Occupy guy shooting a window in the White House, and the Navy Yard last week, of course the police are jumpy and didn't want another incident.

They had her car surrounded by cops when it was stopped and they didn't shoot her, and then she took off, right?

I think this time it really is just a tragedy. She was doing crazy stuff and wouldn't stop. I feel bad for her and her child, but a perfect ending would have been a miracle. @336

This was so nothing like Kenya I honestly can't believe you'd claim that one.  A single, lone, woman driving erratically with no weapon.

v.

A couple dozen heavily armed  jihadis with weapons and explosives stockpiled in a mall.

Various  Strawmen.    They shot her when the driving threat ended.

Nobody is claiming she acted rationally or that the police were not in danger.  The problem is the use of deadly force after she quit driving and apparently tried to flee on foot surrounded by dozens of armed officers in the most heavily-defended  symbolic part of our national leadership.

Sure, it attracts terrorists, and everyone else.

Military keeps Camp David open, cuts NFL, baseball coverage to troops overseas

Washington Examiner: http://tinyurl.com/nv559mp

President Obama has visited the Navy-run presidential retreat Camp David in central Maryland only 32 times, but it is being kept open during the government shutdown for his entertainment and security at the same time the Pentagon is cutting sports coverage to hundreds of thousands of troops around the world...

...Obama has spent just 78 days at the retreat, choosing instead to spend his weekends in Washington and hitting military golf courses, which are also being kept open during the government shutdown.

In the meantime, overseas troops who typically look forward to watching NFL games and the baseball playoffs provided by the Armed Forces Network, will get little if any service due to the shutdown...

424 Go watch the video I posted up thread of the guy who was pulled over for speeding. He got out of his car. Cop told him repeatedly to get back in his car. Guy pulled a weapon he had hidden and shot the cop. He also had 3 little kids in his car so the kid in the car rule is a bit flexible. No, really you aren't. Or, rather, you shouldn't be. As someone above said: I'll get out of my car any d*mn time I want. If I'm leaning against my car with no weapon (and, in Texas at least, I'm required to inform the cop if I'm carrying), then he has no cause to shoot me. I don't care if it makes him edgy. That's his d*mn job. You also seem to be conflating an immediate response to an attack with an immediate response to a suspect attempting to flee. Those are two different things. Put another way- let's say the cop *had* said, "Sir, if you'd like to get out of your car, you may." Would that have changed anything about the scenario? Would he suddenly *not* have had permission to defend himself when the guy pulled a gun and started shooting? No, of course not. So it seems the determining factor is the immediate (or at least imminent) use of a weapon against the police (or innocent standers-by) which determines if a cop is authorized to use deadly force. NOT simply whether or not the suspect stays in the car. NOT simply whether the suspect complies with the cops' orders.

But I explained to them about this very change from 'my day,' and asked them to tell my boys how to respond. That was a good lesson. Older cop to younger cop when told when I had learned to drive: "That's before you were born, isn't it?" Heh.

448 >> Seriously Jackstraw- draw a VENN diagram regarding the two scenarios- the lady in DC yesterday and the vid you posted. The area of overlap is incredibly small- and none of that overlap is probative regarding use of force. Only if you are being willfully obtuse. I was responding to the statement that she shouldn't have been shot for getting out of her car. Cops have been trained for years to tell people to stay in their cars after they are stopped. They do this for safety reasons. If you want to hop out, go for it. But don't be surprised at the reaction you get. Particularly after you have hit a secret service agent, caused a cop to crash and total his car, crash into the WH gates and then crash at the capital after leading the cops on a high speed chase with shots fired.

Whenever he got a speeding ticket driving highways cross country, my dad always got out and stood waiting to talk with the officer, outside of our car. We all sat inside quietly watching (praying he wouldn't get the ticket, just a friendly warning as often as not). I know he gave the officers his drivers license and of course our vehicle's license plate was on the front and the back; but I don't recall the procedure then including the production of vehicle registration let alone proof of insurance for the officer to review. My first time pulled over, I began to open the door and the officer firmly asked me to remain in the vehicle. I was lucky to just get a warning.

472 Only if you are being willfully obtuse. I was responding to the statement that she shouldn't have been shot for getting out of her car. One of us is certainly being obtuse here. If she'd tried to hit someone with a sword, dropped the sword and run away, would cops still have had authorization to shoot? SHE HAD ABANDONED HER WEAPON. In fact, the ONLY way she could relinquish her weapon was by getting out of the car- staying in the car kept her in possession of a deadly weapon. There's also the part where you don't get to use the fact that she "clipped" a secret service agent 2 minutes ago (or 3, or 5, or however many it was) to justify use of force now. Let's take a suspect on foot with a gun. He engages with police and then breaks the engagement- running away. Eventually he is surrounded. At that point, and in full view of the officers, he throws his weapon to the ground and tries again to make a break for it. Do the cops get to fire?

His doctor at the Mayo Clinic may be gone as well. "Now it doesn't mean I can't go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket, is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that IÂ’ve been seeing the last seven years," he said. Michael realizes millions of people will benefit from the coverage, but he wants them to realize that others are making sacrifices to make that happen. He says that he and his wife will continue to look at their options, try and find a similar plan, and if they need to, theyÂ’ll pick up second jobs. This is why it won't be worth working anymore. What's the point of working harder? It gets you nowhere.

WASHINGTON—Senior Republicans in Congress, frustrated over their inability to strike a deal to reopen the government, began shifting from their drive to undercut the 2010 health-care law, which has been the central element of the dispute, toward a broader budget deal.

The new focus comes as Congress is beginning to confront the need to raise the U.S. debt ceiling, which the Treasury said must be done this month in order to pay the nation's obligations. With federal agencies largely shuttered for a third day, some GOP lawmakers were exploring whether the political stalemate over funding the government could best be resolved by crafting a broader fiscal package that would include an increase in the debt ceiling.

515 At one point they had the car surrounded by cops with guns drawn and none of them hit her. Actually, this is one point where I agree with Jackstraw- she might have been hit while in the car. As far as I know we haven't heard specifically otherwise. If she was hit while in the car, but was having some sort of psychotic break, she might not have even realized she'd been hit. Thus the (then) driving away. So it's possible she bled-out from a wound in the initial barrage. If that's the case, then this goes firmly back into "good shoot." If it's not, well, then it's not.

And the media never covered the victims' side, to impartially counter to the official rationale. When the FBI/ATF got tired of terrorizing the Branch Davidians holed up begging to surrender to the Texas Rangers, JackStraw's Rule of Order proceeded. The citizens asked to be shot and burnt to death because they refused to surrender to terrorism (as they saw it). And the Federal agents were blameless to not hold the siege they initiated for the duration, to await the community or some stragglers to surrender eventually. ...All's fair in love and war. 536 >>One of us is certainly being obtuse here. Ah, so your super secret detective sklllz would guarantee that if said person dropped the sword they wouldn't have another weapon? The details of this are still coming out. Like the report that just came out that she had a verbal confrontation with the SS *before* ramming the gate and hitting him. Might be kind of interesting to hear what she said before assuming this was jackbooted thuggery, don't ya think? Oh the report also said that it appears she never got out of the car. So it is equally likely that after hitting the SS, after causing a cop to crash, after leading a high speed gun shot filled car chase from the WH to the Capital she did not in fact drop her sword and refused to obey the cops. So is that the new rule? We are allowed to hit cops with a deadly weapon and threaten the health and security of others and lead gun shot filled high speed chases in the middle of DC and continue to ignore the directions of cops to stand down and if they shoot us they are wrong? Oh, ok.

586 The Searchlight Strangler doesn't care about the law, the truth, or the constitution but now he suddenly cares about a senate rule he has broken with impunity myriad times? Does Harry think he and the Indonesian Idiot are winning? Is that why he is now apologizing?

Well.... if Our President is willing to put the screws to ordinary folk because he's pissed at Republicans....closing parks, kicking kids out of chemo, using armed guards against kayakers..... think what he's capable of if the whole shooting match collapses and we find ourselves living by Thunderdome rules.

Yeah, I know, what's the context? Doesn't matter. Burn him.

Permission to fire on rafters floating thru a park? What a fucking joke.

Nope.  We've seen over the past couple of days that NPS people are assholes.  And an asshole with a gun - whose authoritah is being disrespected - is dangerous.  I can very easily imagine a ranger firing a "warning shot" just before a "sink the raft" and a "shoot to kill" shot.

In fact, I guarantee you that at least one of the rangers is hoping someone mouths off so he can  shoot.

592 I guess you missed the part where she did not get out of the car. Weapon not dropped.

Posted by: JackStraw at October 04, 2013 12:00 PM (g1DWB)

Here's where I have a problem, JackStraw.     The woman's only weapon was her car.  When    the car was no longer moving, she was no longer a KNOWN threat.  She was not at that point driving her car AT anyone.  Were she barreling towards a cop or a pedestrian or even another car at the time     then yes, okay.   But the car had crashed and was apparently disabled.  At no time had she fired a weapon at the pursuing law enforcement officers; she was not actively shooting at them    after    the car crashed either.

There are car chases on the news every day in which a lunatic goes zigging and zagging wildly through traffic on a busy freeway or city street, cops screaming in pursuit.   Rarely do you see the police take out their guns and fire on the vehicle except as a last resort; and even then they're   likely to     fire first at the tires.     Even when the person behind the wheel is a known criminal   who is probably armed, they don't just    shoot the driver after the car's been disabled.    That would only come into play if the driver refuses to cooperate    even after being warned,  or if the driver makes a move that indicates they're going to use a weapon   or assault an officer.    None of that appears to be the case in this situation; if it is, we'll find out in due time.

We don't know everything that happened yesterday.  I doubt we'll ever know everything.   But there is something about this that is just not right.

That said, I'm sure that whatever    LEOs   contributed to this woman's death are feeling pretty awful right now.    Killing someone is bad enough, but killing a young mother,   who may have been suffering from mental problems,   in front of her toddler     has got to rank    among    the worst.

593 Aren't those rafting expeditions organized by private contractors? Are those contractors required to have a federal permit to raft down that section of the river? Posted by: mrp ----------------------- As we all know, this has NOTHING to do with funding. It is designed to discomfort as many people as possible with the certainty that the media will spin it as the Republicans fault. I note in passing that most of the venues 'closed' are those that are demographically appealing to white folk, you know, like a Churchill bust. Whether intentional or not, it is a simple truth.

596 However, she had ceased being a threat when she stopped and exited the vehicle.

Not anymore and especially not in the Capitol area of DC.  Wait til someone publishes a map of the whole thing.  It certainly sounds like everything happened right smack downtown DC which ain't very big and is splodey target thick.

When she was on City Council  (she was our neighborhood's representative) , she seemed harmless enough; it's when she got to State office that she got too big for her britches.

I'll confess - Mr. TiFW and I both voted for her, because we knew her late father; he was good people.

Haven't voted for her since she got into State office.....

598 >>I have heard conflicting reports she did not hit anyone or anything, but the cop/SS guy hurt himself his car on his own. “Whoa! Whoa!,” Secret Service officers were shouting at the car, according to a witness, Shawn Joseph, 29. “It looked liked [the driver was] scared or lost. I thought they might have been a tourist.” But then, witnesses said, officers tried to place a barrier in front of the car. The driver swerved. The officers moved the barrier. She hit it, and a Secret Service officer was thrown up on the hood and then off the car. http://tinyurl.com/ptrjvlx

The other video shows DCPD doesn't get a lot of hi-speed driving practice either.

The thing about these many overreaches is that they are the perfect counter to Democrat whining.

Democrat:  What about the people who will starve because they don't get WIC (or whatever is their particular victim of government shutdown)?

Reply:  What is essential and what is nonessential is decided by President Obama and the Executive Branch.  If they cared more about WIC they would continue that instead of spending the money on Park Police and barricades to keep Americans from visiting open air monuments or financially self supporting museums and parks.  Most of those parks not only do not cost the government anything but they actually pay money into the general fund from the user fees.
