Also, their statement said something to the effect of her having failed to complete her reserve obligation.

I don't understand why people around here were saying this was no big deal.  The media made her a big deal.  She's their spokesperson for not only oppressed homosexuals, but gays in the military.

42 rickl, Doug Trumbull did some experimenting with a new theater format back in the '70's that used 70mm film, 24fps and a gazillion-watt surround sound system. He had them installed in six specially constructed theaters around the country in pizza parlors (whose name escapes me right now because, not enough coffee). One of them was up in Huntsville, Al where I got to see it. It was pretty impressive and paved the way for Imax.

Will today be the T-giving that my olympian restraint and discretion finally fail?  Actually the Coastal Clueless (VDH oughta steal that from me) family/family of sis-in-law rarely "talk politics", thing is, I never ever ever do.  (Actually I literally never do "talk politics", other than from a clinical view, as I've had a lifetime interest and experience in policy, which is on most important things a separate topic)

So last night I'm calling the distant brother cuz it's been a while and the chaos of T-giving at the other brother's is a poor time to catch up on the phone.  Second or third sentence out of his mouth - talking about the unseasonal tornadoes recently - is "how do those people like their climate change now?" followed closely and jaw-droppingly by "yeah I'm sure the private sector would create tornado warning systems, who needs government?".

(silent, gigantic, face-palm ....)  Uh huh.  Because tornado warning services are bitterly opposed by "anti-government" types.  Right.  THAT's the point with the current economic and constitutional smothering of life by government in America.  Tornado warning thingamabobs.  I managed a (jocular tone) "well I'm sure the 40% increase in the national budget in the last 5 years wasn't really needed to provide tornado warning systems".  He sort of said "yeah" and the topic shifted.

Sigh.  I was the one who coined the expression that being around so many people now feels what it must have been like to be undercover FBI at a Klan rally in the 50s.  Just alien creatures untethered from substantive and moral reality.

So of course the answer is I will play dumb as I have for decades when discussing anything of import, but not sure I can stick with that rule if anyone really steps in it re O-care.  Not sure casually tossing off that I for the first time in my life will have to go w/out insurance will work - these idiots will really provoke me beyond restraint by drooling some idiocy about going on welfare (subsidized plan) or some such.  So instead I'll probably just withdraw further from these people, as I have (sadly) from 80% of the people I know.  Patronize, pity, and dislike them even more.  As their ignorant, sometimes smug, sometimes preening, always serenely confident devotion to unworkable, lawless, freedom-killing social engineering degrades the nation and dramatically lowers my security and standard of living.

Sorry for the wall of text.  But this is too (darkly) funny not to mention.  So, in addition to the havoc that O-care will wreak on my personal financial security, the electricity bill has spiked (yeah! another drain on my non-Zuckerberg like finances).

Why?  Well, "the planet", of course!  Specifically, the breath-taking idiocy of the San Onofre nuke plant being shut down (40 years before it's due).  Basically mau-mau'd to close by that drolling cretin Boxer - and of course by an insane environment in which such massive economic waste and damage can even be conceived, much less "yeah, pretty routine".

So the sister may celebrate the closing the plant - her understanding of nuclear power and safety is about the same as her grasp of anything else not part of her daily life.  If that happens, how can I resist?  These idiots (er, family) are, all by themselves, making a good run at impoverishing me, at the least greatly reducing my security or standard of living and/or ability to generate savings.  Fucking unbelievable.
