14 Rs who voted w/open borders lobby: Corker Ayotte Chiesa Collins Flake Graham Hatch Heller Hoeven Kirk McCain Murkowski Rubio Wicker
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) June 24, 2013
By the way, you know that "Commission of Border State Governors" that will have a large role in deciding whether or not the border is sealed?
One of those "border states" will be Nevada, where Reid (D) and Heller (R) are both pro-amnesty.
See, they've decided that Nevada is a border state despite, you know, not having a border with anything except other US states.
“This amendment ensures the commission created in the underlying bill is fully representative of issues affecting southern border and southwestern states," Heller said. "Although Nevada does not touch the southern border, its current demographics and state issues are reflective of other southern border states and Nevada should have a voice on this commission.”
By that logic, New York should be a "border state" too -- and it probably will be.
I strongly suspect "border states" will be getting bought off to okay further amnesties. So of course Reid and Heller want a share of these additional billions in bribery.
Apart from rigging the game dishonestly before it's even begun-- you can totally trust these guys. Honestly.

see when we have non suicidal speakers of the house it is LATE to hit an issue that the House doesn't already have structure on....
of course our "Bulldog John" Boehner is liable to just bring the Pork Cannon Amnesty of 2013 over for a straight vote, violate the Hastert Rule that Pelosi also followed by the way and use democrats and liberal Republcians to pass this shit sandwich unaltered...

It's more important that those two be successfully primaried, then it is that the GOP takes back the Senate.

It's disheartening. The manner that the country is being run; granting preferences to criminals, passing laws that haven't been read, or in some cases even written, campaigning on one issue and upon election immediately flipping positions....
This won't end well.

NO! Boehner does not have to nor should he pass a goddamned thing. If he passes anything then the bill goes to conference and gives the House "McCain Gang" the opportunity to defang the house provisions and keep Reid's.
The MOST we could hope for then would be a "lean amnesty bill" with the more odious pork removed.

No, no, Romeo13...I was merely bringing up the coastlines, because no one else is.
'Border Security' shouldn't just include the land-borders.
I think the Founders were actually viewing our coastlines as 'borders' back in their day...with regard to securing them.
But these days, no one seems to even talk about coastline security.
Which is why Amnesty is such a bad idea.
With the threat of being deported...destroyed...there will be no deterrent left at all.
May as well just disband the Coast Guard and save money.

We stopped gun control, we stopped the farm bill. Keep up the pressure on the House.
Sen Sessions predicts this bill will lose more support everyday as more people learn what's in it. By the time the House gets it, it should be enough time for the polls to shift in our favor.
We must encourage the House 70, led by Bachmann, Gohmert, and Steve King, to stay strong against Boehner. We must encourage dissent and the ousting of the Speaker if he pushes this.

The Senate has sucked for as long as I've been watching -- even after the 1994 take-over (that's when I started to become a wonk). They were too chicken to impeach Bill Clinton, for Heaven's sake! They have always been elitist -- esp compared to the House -- and out of touch. Sure, they get some things right (like the recent gun-control push), but it's usually a major surprise when they do.
That's why we must keep the House in check here.

Yeah, I should have noted that about the idea of using "legalized" workers for which the business wouldn't have to pay health care. Heard it on Rush's show last week.
Problem with NV is that it's becoming too much like CA, partly due to liberals coming from CA to NV to "escape" CA, but also because while CA politics are ruled by liberal money from Hollywood and Silicon Valley, NV politics are heavily influenced by Vegas money, and while some of those casino moguls are ostensibly Conservative, their conservatism goes out the window when it comes to profits.
So add the interests of the casino guys to the Dems in NV who want to wipe out conservatives, and you get what we saw today.

Posted by: Obnoxious A-hole at June 24, 2013 03:43 PM (31Nrp)
Did you know...
That the Amnesty Bill that Reagan signed, in 1986...was introduced in the Senate by Alan Simpson [R-Wyoming]?
Simpson introduced it in May of 1985.
It was passed in the Senate in September of 1985...and it took over a year for it to be voted on in the House.
At least that Bill had some restrictions...
The illegals had to be able to prove that they'd been here since 1982.
And there was an 'expiration date' for signing up for the Amnesty.
We don't know what is in this shit-sandwich yet.
So we don't even know if it will have a similar expiration date...or if it will be open ended, allowing for Amnesty forever.

Calder vs Bull... 1798
'words and the intent' of the Ex Post Facto Clause encompass '[e]very law that changes the punishment, and inflicts a greater punishment, than the law annexed to the crime, when committed.'
But that was for making a law have more consequence... I don't know of any case where they have argued making something illegal, legal.
Supremes just recently held that even Sentencing guidelines must be the ones from when the crime was committed... so how the Supremes would see it? No clue.

297 Fennelon and Jem,
You folks rock!
The only reason we're trying to get Ace's approval is so we can put up a post and, hopefully, have him pimp it on twitter.
If we don't get approval to post it we can launch it anyway. I will mail my fish tomorrow and then hit twitter.

Thanks NDH,
I watched the suggestion through the thread last night and thought it was an excellent idea, even if I did it on my own. I understand about getting Ace to pimp the suggestion, but whether he chose or chooses to or not, I did it.
Point of order though, JEM and jem, on here are NOT the same people. JEM has excellent comments on here, but I would not wish him/her to be mixed up with mine. Maybe I should find a different nik. But thanks so much NDH and the rest for the excellent suggestions!

My grandfather didn't talk a lot but I paid attention when he did. The first political thing he ever said to me was "Our family votes Republican because Mr Lincoln saved the Union." The next thing I remember about him and politics is he said "Politics is a dirty, dirty business and our family does not participate other than to vote." The most pithy thing I remember is that he said "We need to turn them all out every 4-8 years because by then they have their hand in the till."
I was just a little kid and I am sure he thought I would never remember. But I did.

364...Huge equal application of law problems...
Totally agree, Romeo13.
That's why I've been practically shouting about how Discriminatory! this whole thing is.
It singles out a particular Group and gives them a pass for breaking our laws.
The Senators who are voting for this...are essentially abdicating the US Govt's Constitutional mandate to secure our borders!
They are altering the Constitution.
Prohibition was simply the first example I could think of, off the top of my head...where 'something illegal was made legal'.
And not an example that is anywhere near the magnitude of this Amnesty Bill.

It's damned near impossible to pin Boehner down to anything, but he did sorta kinda promise a vote on the Senate bill if the House didn't come up with a bill of their own.

No way [the Senate] bill gets through the House.

Just needs about 17 Rs net to shift. That why there was such a push for a big vote margin in the Senate. To influence the butter-backs in the House.

I'm calling my Congressman and telling him I'll be watching his actions on amnesty in the very near future. If he caves - I'll be working to primary him. ( I gave money to that guy and even talked my Libertarian husband into voting for him - if he lets me down - I'll be so angry - moved to action angry)
I'm also going to tell me that I'll hold him accountable for what Boehner does as well because he voted for Boehner for leader. (I was disappointed in that vote - knew it would come to no good).

Graham -- Can Gowdy be persuaded to run? Lee Bright has also expressed interest.
Collins -- Does anyone know anything about Charlie Summers? Slim pickings in Maine.
Alexander -- There's a PAC called Real Conservative National Committee RCNC and they have a Beat Lamar project. They just went door to door canvasing last week.
Get big names to take out the big players.
For Murkowski, get Sarah Palin.
For Rubio, get Allen West.
Is it true Arizona permits recalls? Take out Flake and McCain ASAP.
I will donate to all of these campaigns.

I'd like to see Governor LePage run against Collins. The last I paid attention to Maine politics he was actually pretty conservative - especially compared to what normally flies as conservative up there. I do not know anything about Summers.

We've lived in the same neighborhood since '97, which went from {mostly white} young families with small children, to apartment complexes to our East and West taking section 8 so the neighborhood became mostly black families with teenagers, to now, where it's back to young families {mostly Hispanic} with small children, and those to the East and West mostly stay in their own areas. Mostly. We do have the layabouts with their brown paper bagged drinks hanging out at the end of the street, but they get rousted fairly often.
It's safer, more community oriented, and one of these days I AM going to buy tamales from the guy with the horn who sells out of a box!!!

Um, New York is a border state. Or do only illegal Mexicans qualify for amnesty? I'm having a lot of trouble keeping up with your screwy laws since I stopped caring last November.
PS speaking of which, have fun with your single payer health care monolith when it comes. Trust me, what you "save" in direct out-of-pocket expenses (which you will more that pay for in higher income taxes) you will also pay double for in wait times and decreased quality. I hope your chronically unemployable underclass is worth it. The upside being, I guess, that your Donk presidents won't have the money to drop bombs on North Africa on a whim, or the Balkans to distract from Oval Office trouser malfunctions.
