— Dave in Texas Lots of numbers and a nice chart. Bottom line - Texas has wiped out a two-decade decline in crude oil output, and that within just the last 3 years. It is the largest oil producing state in the US, pumping out 32% of all domestic crude. If it were a nation, it would rank 13th in the world.
Texas oil output in February, at an average of 2.295 million bpd, was 25.3% greater than the combined 1.83 million bpd of US oil imports that month from all of the Persian Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar). In fact, Texas oil output has exceeded Persian Gulf imports in each of the last seven months starting last August, something that has never happened before in the history of monthly EIA data for Persian Gulf imports going back to January 1993.
The south Texas Eagle Ford field is now the largest oil and gas production field in the world. 6 years ago it was barely a blip.
This massive growth in energy production has helped fuel job growth. In the prior 12 months through March payrolls grew in Texas by 329,500 jobs (17% of all US jobs).

Actually, preversely yes. Most of these fields wouldn't be developed if oil were less than $80 a barrel, and the reason oil is so high right now is not from consumption, but due to a decline in the dollar and fears of inflation.
So, kinda. Thanks for making my job possible Obama. On the downside, the traffic here sucks now.

America ca. 2013 is like the sad sack salesmen in Glengarry Glen Ross. The guy who comes from downtown to read them the riot act (Alec Baldwin) tells them that "there's money just lying there for you to pick up. If you pick it up, it's yours. If you don't, I have no use for you. It's waiting for you. Are you man enough to pick it up?" And you just know that they won't. They'd rather complain and moan about their bad luck.
"I used to be a salesman. It's a tough racket."
We could have a freakin' boom time in America if we just unleashed the private sector to develop cheap and abundant energy (oil, natural gas, nuclear, clean coal). Instead we tax and spend and tax and spend, and the lawyers and government workers and consultants get rich, while America treads water.

Well, they have mounted a special effort to "Turn Texas Blue". No better way to stifle productive activity than to vote Democrat.
Their game plan:
1)Herd all the illegal immigrants (aka: undocumented democrats) to Texas.
2) Ammnesty!
3) Claim those evil repuklicans would NEVER have allowed that to happen if it weren't for Teh One and the DNC.
4) Get Out the Vote drive to register all those new taxpaying Citizens.....
5)BLUE!!!!

Wouldn't they have to move there in order to do that? I rather doubt there'd be some massive influx of progtards into what they know would be Hostile Territory.
I'm pretty sure they'd find themselves in the vast minority and leave. Especially in a booming economy. I can see many opportunities for the locals to "adjust their attitudes."

-- Very prolific area which includes oil and gas production dating back to early 1900's The Haynesville shale is the hot ticket right now and is mostly gas. Royalty in that area is very valuable. Louisiana has a rule that if there is no production on land for ten years then the minerals revert to the surface owner.
If the Aunt has minerals under land but does not own the land it could be a problem

"I saw a '79 Eldorado convertible.."
In 1978 is was with my future father-in-law at a boat club he belonged to. Ed Kennard, the GM of Cadillac drove up in a '79 Eldorado.
"What the hell is that?" asked my FIL.
"This is the new Eldorado" explained Kennard.
"Well, your not going to stick me in one of those little bastards" said the FIL.
In the next month, he purchased 8 '78 Eldorado Biarritz's and had a garage built inside one of his warehouses to store them.
He died in '85, so he never ran out of Eldorado's.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday forcefully defended his policy toward Syria, his handling of the Boston Marathon bombing, the future of Obamacare and even his political relevance in a wide-ranging press conference 100 days into his second term.
Obama also made a passionate promise to try again to close the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison.
The president delivered an unprompted tribute to Jason Collins, the first openly gay active NBA player, calling him “a terrific young man” and a “role model” for gay youth who may be struggling.

This fantasy ran wild four years ago. Obama is “probably the smartest guy ever to become president,” the presidential historian Michael Beschloss announced shortly after the November election. The then-candidate’s Philadelphia address on race and Jeremiah Wright was “as great a speech as ever given by a presidential candidate,” a group of progressive luminaries declared in The Nation. Obama’s “Dreams From My Father” is quite possibly “the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician,” Time Magazine’s Joe Klein declared. “He is not the Word made flesh,” Ezra Klein wrote of Obama’s rhetoric in The American Prospect, “but the triumph of word over flesh, over color, over despair.”
