And anyone who has a refund is a fucking imbecile as a refund means you are loaning the govt money interest free for a year. Yet our society has been brainwashed to view tax time as a positive since you get "FREE MONEY" from the govt which you can then go and use as a down payment for a new car. Isn't the govt just wonderful?

32 "Peeps on welfare you don't pay income taxes. I think those birth certificates were stolen for identify fraud purposes not for getting a tax credit. Posted by: Mr. Moo Moo" People who get food stamps, rent subsidies, etc. and work a few hours a week at a store or whatever, pay no income tax and often get a "tax refund". It's because even though they pay no taxes, they get all these tax credits. It's actually just another way to give free money to the Free Shit Brigade.

True people on welfare don't pay taxes, but in the Clinton years, they started getting "child tax credits" of $500 per kid.  In GW years, it was upped to$1,000.

Also in the Clinton years, people without soc. security #'s were allowed to file with a "tax ID #" enabling people who don't even live in the U.S. to file taxes and get their free "Child Tax Credit".  Due to about $7 billion in fraud, they cut off the Child Tax Credit at age 17.  Soc. Security # for kids are needed this year to claim Child Tax Credit.

Posted by: Deli LLama at April 14, 2013 04:46 PM (lGu1O)

34 I got quite a large refund this year.  Immediately adjusted my withholding by 300 on the fed side and 100 on the state side.  I'd much rather have them waiting for my money than holding it until I demand it back.  Even at today's non-existent interest rates.  They should fuck themselves with a rusty pineapple.

There were some years when we received the EIC.  Husband was working in a nice job that didn't pay very much, and I had left my job due to a chronic illness.  The kids were school age and we qualified.  I did not feel like a worthless parasite, although it did puzzle me why they were giving me back more money than we paid in.  It helped a lot till we get back on our feet financially.  I'm not in favor of it necessarily, but I think maybe sometimes we paint with a wide brush.

55 Their idea of limiting IRA's to $3 million because a retirement income of $200,000 per year is enough, then no government retirees should be allowed to have a pension of more than $200,000 per year. Not presidents, vice presidents, representatives, senators, supreme court judges, cabinet members, heads of departments. 64 Thank you expat. Mama, there are some variations of the "fair tax" that do a redistribution in certain ways, to achieve similar effects, in part based on the (probably true theory) that it's cheaper to ensure everyone has their basic subsistence covered than to pay for social programs that are inefficient, plus prison. Just an interesting tidbit.

More welfare without calling it welfare. On the tv judge shows a repeated theme is welfare people borrowing money from their friends, relatives, and anyone else dumb enough to trust a freeloader, telling the loaners that they will pay them back from the so-called tax refund, then not pay them back, cause freeloaders always squander the money on some stupid crap like $2000 wheel covers. Yeah, you should have seen Judge Judy the day some girl sued her daddy because he borrowed her California college education money to buy some $2000 wheel covers, then wouldn't pay her back.

99 True, it was Russian-allied Communists who retired Ceaucescu; but it was not the Russians themselves. The Russians had taken their hands off Romania some decades before 1989.

Ceaucescu's relationship with the Kremlin was pretty much like North Korea's relationship with China. Or Burma's.

They want the masses dependent. With the elite "fairly" plucking those from the masses that might be useful to uplift to the elite. The irony is that the left claims that the from the masses comes "democracy" and legitimate governance. Yet, those who are dependent are not free, as they are under the duress of the elite who control the free stuff they are so dependent on. It is the new feudalism. It is the new slavery.

113 Jay, Mama, IRL I will often explain to folks that it's not welfare that conservatives are opposed to, it's social engineering, waste, and generational traps. Though, tbqfh, we lose a lot if cred because the GOP is so bad at welfare whiting to corporations. If that were fixed, correcting a multitude of economic distortions, employment would increase and welfare would be used by fewer because the work would be more lucrative. The key is always to make working the better economic alternative. But the GOP can't escape it's pork addiction. And that's why we cant win the presidency.

Finishing my taxes right now.  Basically sending the IRS my entire bonus.  Good thing I got one.  Asked my liberal husband how it feels to be rich.  Still waiting for an answer.  Trying to decide whether to adjust the withholding or just save the bonus next year.  I hate dropping my paycheck more after the big drop in January.  It will remind me who is spending my money.

122 Posted by: nerdygirl at April 14, 2013 08:56 PM (yUCkL) I know there is supposed to be no math here, but I looked at the numbers two ways: 1. taking $200 k per year out of $3 mil (at our current savings interest rate of about 0%) mean you are broke if 15 years (then the IPAB kicks in I guess). 2. Assuming that you live off the interest and not the principal, means you have to be getting 6.67$% rate of return on $3 mil. Either simplistic scenario is ridiculous, and if taxes were included that actual dollar amount available for hookers and blow would be a lot less than the $200k/yr number bandied about. Too bad we have only a fawning lapdog media that won't follow this clear set of actual dollar values that define how the maximum that public employees should get in retirement and what a fair maximum tax rate is!
