The End of Obamaism Open Thread
— Ace

Fantastic round-up at Hot Air as people grope with the likely consequences of Obamacare's unbelievable failure.

It could mean a lot more than the repeal of one bad law. It could mean the end of progressivism for a generation.

Note, in the last quote, the Chicago Tribune calls, implicitly, for the full repeal of Obamacare.

So I doubt they are going to actually fix anything while they pursue this nonsensical imaginary problem that has little to do with the actual causes of bad service.

34 The Obamacare is Obama's Katrina narrative seems to be picking up steam:

"“There’s a piece of me that says this thing is just so complicated that God couldn’t have implemented it,” said Tom Peters, the veteran management guru and co-author of “In Search of Excellence.” “Every time you make one little adjustment, there are probably 150, if not 1,000, regulations that have to be taken into account. Would it be doable if it was inside a Google, with all the things the private sector allows you to do?"

So no one, not even Barack the Lightbringer, could actually do this.
Don't blame him for his failure. It's like Katrina, a natural disaster (i.e. act of God, not man).

I can't predict the future, but add my voice to those saying "huh?  end of progressivism? you're joking, right?".

Mostly because things just don't work that way, usually.   Even mega-debacles - when they're committed by the right folks - do not have proportionate consequences.

Look, this president's mere existence - his first election, and esp. his re-election, indicate this a fundamentally unserious country (when it comes to serious matters like policy).  Doesn't mean you and you and you over there and I are - but come on.

ObamaCare has failed and the Left's heads have exploded. Americans are watching the meltdowns. I think Bashir's unhinged Palin rant today is proof of the Left going around the bend.

95 I doubt the failure of Obamacare will impact leftism for more than maybe one election cycle. This is why the media has actually been ever so slightly turning on Obama recently. They will beat up on Obama when it is impossible to defend him, so they can claim later on that all of his programs failed because of Obama's unique flaws and that THIS TIME they will get it right.

This is pretty much why some people will seriously try to argue that Josef Stalin wasn't a REAL communist. If you can blame one person, you don't have to examine your own belief system for flaws.

211 Maybe Cruz. Maybe West. Maybe Palin, though I think the media has mortally wounded her politically. Posted by: D-Lamp Not a chance West or Palin have what it takes. Reagan's presidency couldn't happen now even if he were alive and 50 years old. He had the luxury of having a well-known name because of the GE Theater TV show and meet-n-greets. West, Palin are victims of their own culdesac careers. Neither know how to escape being the target of a monstrous MSM, nor do most of the GOP. It's going to take iconoclastic, revolutionary planning and execution to escape the search-and-destroy Dem-media complex Cruz maybe able to find a way to do so but he's not showing a new stratagem so far. Don't see anyone on the horizon capable or even hinting at that. Forecast, disappointment.

I believe the left is beyond "the put in Hatteburg" moment. This unraveling has been happening since 2011. The media has propped up Obama, unlike any other President in our history.

The flawed mechanics of the ACA were blatantly obvious  at the outset. A bill of this magnitude would have to be legislated into law over many years.

I think the Dems will continue to bail, especially in 2014 when the employee mandate kicks in. The middle class, having it's employer insurance doubled or canceled will turn the Senate to the Reps. and the President will go down as the worst failure since Andrew Johnson.

These day's remind me of 1979/1980 where a weak flailing President was drowning in front of our eyes.

254 Voted for it twice? The American people have been voting for this for generations. Woodrow Wilson, twice, FDR - FOUR TIMES, even when he was dying, Truman - AGAIN, then Kennedy (ran a pro-American campaign on youth, excitement and banging chicks) and then LBJ, the true heir of FDR (the term GREAT SOCIETY is out o New Deal writings). And then after LBJ got run off the stage, Nixon actually was effective in making some of LBJ's bullshit actually work. Carter was not really a progressive, just a bit of well-intentioned screw up, but Billy Jeff WANTED to be a great Liberal Hero, but also wanted to stay elected, so he.....triangulated. And then we got Compassionate Conservatism, whatever that is. We keep getting this nonsense like "the era of Big Government is over" (remember that little canard from Billy Jeff's State of the Union speech?), so really, this is just another turn of the page. Obamacare or whatever this trainwreck is called might be a blind alley, but the MIDDLE CLASS wants their Big Government stuff; tax deductions for their mortgage interest, Medicare after retirement, Social Security payments, and on and on. The Dept of Education at the FedGov does NOTHING, but it can't be killed, because of .....the children, or some such bullshit. The Lion of the Senate (Dead Ted) was all about Nationalized Health Care for decades. This was the old bastard's vindication. This is a CORE Democrat belief. They will be back with more lies and bullshit in a few years, even if this planecrash gets repealed, which it won't. A core of Democrats and Republicans will work to fix this idiocy, because it's GOVERNMENT and that's what they do. Screw us all over and tell us it's for our own good.

Hollywood is already getting foreign competition, Pirate copies are also hurting them, Pron is now produced everywhere in the freakin world, and probably at lower cost, Newspapers are dying, and it appears that the networks are slowly losing viewers. Also, Conservative media is trying to crawl. Maybe it will walk eventually. Maybe maybe maybe this problem can get better.

Not only did she dead on nail Obama with every bit of her speech, her Teleprompter went out in the middle of it (I've always suspected sabotage.) and she continued providing perfect delivery without the slightest discernible hiccup. In addition to that, she shell shocked the Democrats with just two words. "Death Panels." That lady knows how to play the game if she chooses to do so. And on the pedestal these words appear: `My name is Obamandias, King of Kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!' Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, The lone and level sands stretch far away".

363 Obama's permission for sale of previously approved plans cannot fly.  Why?  Because the plans have to be approved by the state regulators, and they cannot approve plans that are illegal even if the president will not prosecute.  Why?   Because the states will prosecute if an illegal plan is sold - they would have to unless all of the states waived and they will not do so.  (See politics for this - and administrators not getting themselves caught in a legal bind.)

That is why his threat to veto the Upton bill cancels out his offer of non-prosecution.  The Upton bill would make the non-ACA plans legal and thus could be sold once re-approved by the states.  But if the plans remain illegal they cannot be made legal by the states to sell in the states.  The ACA remains in effect, though not enforced, and thus the states cannot make legal what is still illegal.

See teh Medical Pot Law stuff for how all of that actually plays out.

372 Here I am, almost 2 hours after the last post at the end of a dead thread. But the topic appeals to me, so here goes.

The failure of Zerocare does not mean the end of progressivism at all. It may mean a temporary end to crazy, unworkable prog schemes for awhile. It may signal the beginning of lame-duck Obama, which is worrisome in itself, given that it took this utter debacle for the GOP (and not even all of them) to find the balls to stand up to this guy. Even now, I don't hear anyone pointing out that Obama's "fix" is probably illegal, along with all of his other alterations.

So, say Zerocare is repealed tomorrow. Every other progressive gain is still there. Amnesty still looms, the EPA is going full retard, Holder is still suing Red states, the IRS remains unpunished, shady Dem miracle recount "victories" go unchallenged. Among other things.

373 Posted by: UpperDecker at November 16, 2013 02:06 AM (1j9qS)

Ah, but is ObamaCare fails, Obama will have lost all his credibility -- credibility is needed to pass amnesty, EPA, etc. He loses on this, he loses on other things. Polls today show the American people have FINALLY decided he is "untrustworthy". There is not much he can do to restore that.

Posted by: Aslan's Girl at November 15, 2013 10:35 PM (KL49F)

374 It could mean the end of progressivism for a generation.
