See, this is the problem with teh rapid-fire posts.
That last one on separate vacations is a target rich environment for comedy. But you stomped on it for an-"ehh" post about a gun.
Mind you I love guns, especially miniguns, but it's not as funny as the vacation post

You know the worst thing about this seperate vacation thing? Its going to get picked up and reported as a thing, something to do that other couples should do. Who will be the first female mag to do an article on how seperate vacations can stregthen your marriage.
And this is the type of thing that Ace is always talking about. It will allow Obama to get favorable press in non-political mags. It will be a pro-Obama political story masquerading as a simple story of how they vacation separately.

The proof for me was when looking at the A-10 someone pointed out that the weapon was at the centerline and the front landing gear had been moved to the side. I think you are correct, sir, that the order is gun first, flying platform second. Then all that armor and redundant system approach followed. The imitation-is-the-sincerest-form-of-flattery stuff arrived with the Russians, who had television in 1812, tried builing something like it.
Go, Ace!

Try being in the back of an armored car in Southern Delaware, and seeing first one, then two A-10s appear over the road behind you and make a simulated strafing run. The back of that truck resembled the lower deck of the Carnival Triumph, day 5

Gabby Giffords on Gun Control
You know, I'm really sorry that she had half her head blown off by a leftist toolbag. Really. But seriously, her position on anything has gotta be "uuuhhhhh" until she is told what to say. Thank God she survived, but she really isn't some intellectual heavyweight (if she ever was).

They used to be stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB. After Gulf I they would fly up and down the strand to the delight of everyone. Cheers, flags, etc. They would come over low and tip their wings in a victory run. So fucking cool. They are ugly, but they work.

You know, I was gonna go there with a simple "OK bend over" But I let it go.
Yeah, there is a finesse in doing comedy in text. You have to write things so that the tone is right in the way people read it.
And "bend over" doesn't work quite as well as an inside-joke reference because your mind has to think a bit more about what's being referenced.
Also, phrasing it in the form of a question ads to the humor.
I only know this because I took Comedy 101 at the Ace Community College of Movies, Humor and War Porn.

I think he's going on turbo boost compared to Laup who used to do the same thing, especially with pro-Israel resolutions.
Amash could always abstain if he finds resolutions silly, but instead he must grandstand.
Rumor is that he wants to run for Senate. Since he's in MI, I say let him go for it. I think he's pissed so many people off by running to left-wing media outfits to try to make the leftist anti-GOP case that he might get an insurgency in the primaries in his own district, hence the need to bolt.
If he wins in the Senate race, great, better than a Dem. If he has any serious opposition in the primary, he'll lose and can write Reason columns for the rest of his life.

The 75mm tank gun in some of the WWII B-25s could have brought it below stall speed if it hadn't been manually loaded..I think some Mosquitos and maybe Typhoons had autoloading 6pdrs (57mm)

What amazed me most about the gun (besides the fact that I could hit a soft-skinned vehicle at 3 miles and still heat up the target's interior to something like 1000 degrees) was the rapidity of the firing/cease firing sequence:
1) Squeeze to the first detent: camera starts recording/LASTE stabilization starts initial elevator movement to steady the platform.
2) Squeeze to the second detent and LASTE kicks in fully, gun begins rotation to about 3200-3600 RPM and fires 72 rounds per second. API mixed with HEI goes down range and I could put everything in a 25 foot circle at 5000 feet. The depleted Uranium API rounds have no explosive--the kinetic energy is enough to flash ignite the oxygen inside a tank as the penetrator turns the armor molten. Each HEI round contains the explosive weight equivalent of a hand grenade.
3) Let go of the trigger and the gun stops firing (that's immediate).
4a) In less than 2 seconds (~1.5 actually), the barrels stop rotating forward.
4b) They reverse, unloading all the breeches
4c) A fresh round is loaded into the first firing barrel and the gun is ready for the next pass.
4d) While you're repositioning, the barrels rotate about 120 degrees, cycling them to the ram air portion of the structure around the gun to keep them cool (and thus more accurate).
The rounds are in a continuous feed loop out of and into the ammo can (the big round thing at the back. Live rounds feed out the front, spent brass is fed back into the can at the rear...we don't eject brass--it would goon up the jet's weight and balance to jettison that much material.

However, the jet ain't gonna fall out of the sky. Sheer inertia makes this a physical impossibility. You might slow a teensy bit but you don't fire long enough to make any significant change to air or ground speed.

Chain guns are entirely different from the Vulcan, Mini-gun, Avenger and other rotary barrel guns. They're (generally) single barreled guns, similar to the mechanical machine guns of the 19th century, such as the Gardner. The actual "chain gun" uses an endless operating chain, like the chain on a bicycle, to cycle the bolt.

The Germans used the Bordkanone BK 7,5 75mm self-loading gun in their Henschel HS-129 twin engined ground attack plane. An interesting concept, but fatally crippled by a lousy plane with underpowered (and often sabotaged) French engines, poor visibility, and a cockpit so cramped that some of the engine instruments had to be mounted EXTERNALLY on the sides of the engine nacelles.

It was featured in International Defense Review when I was in the Army in '84.
