The "It's Been Three Hours" Stale-Breaker Thread [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]
— Open Blogger

Something light and airy to break through the stale.

How about something pretty to look at?

And something to remind us that football is just around the corner.

Let the flame war begin.

6 2 I want to talk about how Roberts was pressured to deliver the ruling he did. Did they threaten him or his family? Or both? They probably threatened to turn their backs on him on the cocktail circuit. Even if they threatened him with death by flaying, he has a duty to uphold the Constitution. If he didn't want that responsibility, he shouldn't have applied for the for-life right to be the closest thing America has to a King.

12 I saw a recent article last week that said that Tebow may never play again because the sports world thinks he's a looser. I loved him playing with Denver. Maybe I'm stupid, but you don't do what he did just by being lucky. But I think they hate him because he is a Christian, and expresses it. And most sports writers are liberals who don't truck with that superstitious nonsense. So, destroy Tebow.

13 Was Roberts pressured by anything more than the media's presentation of the court of public opinion?   Can we undo Obamacare regardless --before it collapses our current messy system as it is intended to do; since the authors of the bill want government pays for all healthcare and probably a NHI system where docs and nurses are direct federal employees.

14 #4 Is there really anything to suggest that this happened? I have no evidence. But, the IRS, EPA, NSA, DOJ all seem to be committing crimes at an alarming rate. And have been for years. I bet there are at least two SC judges who'd be happy to increase scrutiny on conservative Americans.

29 I was thinking today about all the items that give pleasure that the government taxes the bejesus out of. Booze, check -- though it can kill you. Cigarettes, cigars, check -- though they can kill you. Automobiles and gasoline, check -- though they can kill you. But there's one item with extreme health consequences -- like HIV, STD's, venereal disease, oral cancers, an*l cancers, even death -- that the government wants to be as free as the day is long. They want to make sure that every person inside of the country gets every variation of condoms, creams, jellies, lotions, device, pill -- before, after (maybe during, who knows?) -- , and even abortionist if nothing else works, all for free. It's a head shaker.

Posted by: Niedermeyer's Dead Horse at June 09, 2013 06:29 PM (DPdf7) It's just that he suddenly turned his career and the law on its head without explanation, or rather with a tendentious and transparently disingenuous explanation. More than one observer said he looked like crap the morning of the decision, like he had been freaked out and hadn't slept. And then didn't want to talk about what had happened. Didn't he take off to a conference or something right after that? All grossly circumstantial, of course.

The article I read had owners/GMs complaining that Tebow's talents didn't outweigh the "distractions". Me, I think that any team that gets Tebow, even as the third-string QB is in for a merchandising bonanza. But I just think that the anti-religious bullies have let it be known they'll make life difficult for the owners.

60 Alabama will win an unlikely third straight BCS championship. While loosing many good players, especially on the O-Line, AJ McCarron, 5th year senior, will be in his third season reading defenses as the starting QB and he will have at least two All-American candidates to throw to. Needless to say, the RB position will once again feature a one-two punch of power and agility as Alabama simply reloads at that position.

94 80 It was a surprise to me, I thought at first he was more of a leftist -- especially since he chose the uber leftard Greenwald at the Guardian to leak to. It's consistent with his civil liberties concerns, though. Posted by: Flatbush Joe at June 09, 2013 06:56 PM (ZPrif) A lot of Paulians were left-libertarians, part of the post-2k influx. Many of them were just intellectual libertarians but cultural leftists, a consequence of the Long March through academia. They say they're against both major parties but they always bash right and turn left. Kind of like atheists who claim to be against religion and bash Christianity but have little to say about Islam.

95 The history of the Disciplinary Barracks is fascinating. Lacking a permanent gallows, they apparently hung convicts in the elevator shaft. there is one SPC-7 in the Army, whose job is to be the executioner. Finally, the Army does have an FM on executions, in case you are in need of insight.

99 But I just think that the anti-religious bullies have let it be known they'll make life difficult for the owners. I'm trying to remember the last time an openly religious sports figure was castigated by the press and coming up with just about nothing. Reggie White -- the 'Minister' of defense? He got a pass. But then he had sufficient melanin content to warrant a pass. The only time I can recall a low melanin content sports figure creating an issue is a relatively minor controversy when Sandy Koufax would not pitch on the Sabbath. Low melanin content Christians are the new 'n' words.

Oh hell. Just pulling up to that building must have been a shock to the soul. It looked like a hell from which one would never escape.

It must have been the old building.

When I was in the Army, and stationed at Ft. Gordon GA, one of the guys in my battalion sort of went off the rails. First he beat the snot out of some O2, or O3, then he went to the PX, bought himself some Captain's bars, pinned them on, and was walking around the perimeter of Barton Field, when the MP's caught up with him.

He was sent to Leavenworth...15 years, I think, and this was back when the old facility was still very much in use. Another interesting factoid....hemp was grown commercially in the area near Ft. Leavenworth before the U.S. gov made the practice illegal. You could, a few years ago, see the stuff still growing in ditches, off the side of roads, vacant fields, etc.

154 I THINK that soldiers confined to the DB are fined their complete salary as part of their sentence. However, those that behave eventually get to participate in 15 or so rehab programs such as auto mechanics, furniture repair, or leather working. Their products and services are offered locally for excellent prices and they do receive a very small amount. The key point is that at the DB you are still a soldier and you can re-earn some of that dignity. Also, the DB is tightly controlled so prison rape, for example, is rare. Did they relocate there from the island that tipped over? Can you read my thoughts from the moon? Do we have plans to blow up the moon? My constituents are strongly against destroying the moon. They think it is pretty and should stay. Although if we could make the moon a full moon all the time that might help some of the seniors in my district who have trouble seeing at night. Perhaps we could save on road lighting. Why don't you NSA people make the moon shine all the time? The stars shine all the time, so we know it's possible.

191 "I want to talk about how Roberts was pressured to deliver the ruling he did."

I tend to favor the simpler explanation. Which is that it was yet another example of the blundering Bush family having erroneously put forth a court nominee who was supposed to be a rock-ribbed conservative, who then turned out to be a total squish once on the court.

That's precisely what happened with David Souter and it's probably what happened here.

Souter was never a conservative or even even squish, though.  Bush Sr. got hoodwinked to the extent he thought Souter was merely a moderate with some conservative leanings who turned out to be just plain liberal.

BTW, I really don't believe Harriet Myers had anything approaching the spine necessary for this job (cf., her meeting with Arlen Specter where she implied she agreed with him on abortion) and, even if she did, we had better people we could have nominated.

Especially when the leaker decides to go to China and give them our secrets. Lucky he was only an IT geek and not privy to everything.

But that's still lying. Which doesn't make the documents fake, but you have to watch your ass accepting evidence from someone who is lying to you. I was wondering if he was a spy when word came that he fled to China.  But why would a spy go to he Guardian to talk about NSA spying on Americans I asked myself.  Why out himself?  Maybe it was because the Chinese did not want to heat shit about their spying?  Meh - they already had that storyline going.  So maybe he is a spy.  He looks more like a disillusioned and disgusted guy with a set on him as big as Texas.

I do see the machine is being ramped up to discredit him and call him dangerous to ou "security" and yet an innocuous flunky.  Hmmm.  It is that steaming pile that I now look at with suspicion.

304 Roberts had been pretty open about not wanting to get the court involved directly in so many divisive hot button political issues. I think he waffled back and forth on Obamacare. He finally found a weasel way out -- or so he thought. From Roberts perspective the country had a chance to undo Obamacare in the 2012 election. I think he was wrong.

That has recently changed to allow criticism of blacks for anti-gay remarks. That's why the media hated on Tebow but not Reggie White. That and Reggie White was a hall of famer.

360 Why is it that Tim Tebow's Christianity is such a big deal? Reggie White talked a lot about his faith---and even spoke in front of the Wisconsin legislature about his faith and morals. Others in the past have been very forthcoming about their faith as well. Is it that the NFL is just full of criminals or too many overly tattooed, dreadlock guys without morality? Just really don't see the big deal here. Posted by: Mo the girl who loathes Female Liberal Hacks at June 09, 2013 08:27 PM (ehlWj) Please remember that Reggie White last played in 2000; he died four years later. Times were really just getting interesting then. Kurt Warner burst on the scene, he is a Christian, but not as open about it as Tim Tebow. People, i.e. liberals got all pissed off about President George W. Bush expressing his Christian faith. The nation has changed quite a bit since Reggie White's time. By the way, the NFL may be predominantly black but not all are criminals. Yes, they have tattoos...so do I. What's your point? I try not to judge a book by its cover. When I joined the military, all I heard was that whites from the South were trash. Mind you, this came from California whites. Please know that I have dated some of the finest Southern rednecks (term of endearment) during my time in the military. And they treated me like a queen. So...I guess I'll leave it there.

Posted by: I Be That Chick at June 09, 2013 04:43 PM (wiJTg)

361 I saw a recent article last week that said that Tebow may never play again because the sports world thinks he's a looser. I loved him playing with Denver. Maybe I'm stupid, but you don't do what he did just by being lucky. But I think they hate him because he is a Christian, and expresses it. And most sports writers are liberals who don't truck with that superstitious nonsense. So, destroy Tebow.

420 Oolh, Maryland crab cake wars! H&M restaurant in Linthicum (near BWI airport) has GREAT crab cakes. I also really like the crab cake sandwich at Moe's Seafood down in Little Italy in B'more. One of the best. For Burgers, although Ray's Hellburger is now defunct, Ray's to the Third is still in Arlington, on N Quinn St. Still makes the Hellburger there. Have a chocolate shake, while you're at it. Just like they made at the old soda fountains. For a great steak dinner in DC, the Capitol Grill in DC is very good, but very pricey. 601 Pennsylvania Ave NW, near the Verizon Center. If you like jazz, I had a great meal at the 701 Restaurant and sat right next to the pianist and bass guitar duo. Food is American with a continental twist. Very nouveau. Decor is gorgeous! lots of glass but almost an Art Deco feel to it. Waiters are extremely professional. Right at the Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Ave.

All of them are picnic areas compared to LBJ (Long Binh Jail) in the Long Binh Army Depot. They cut a small hole in a CONEX container door and welded some bars across the hole. This is where they kept the people who were too psycho for combat duty in Viet Nam. Olive Drab metal CONEX containers in the Vietnamese sun. I'm amazed anyone could survive even one day in one of those.
