The joys of Cuba [Purp]
— Open Blogger

You can apparently be sent to prison for preemptive "pre-criminal dangerousness".

...Ricardo is serving three years for "pre-criminal dangerousness". He was arrested for having no job and associating with "undesirable elements".

"I didn't rob, or kill, or anything. They labelled me 'dangerous' just for spending time with former prisoners and sent me here."...

OWS types take notice

53 Does Cuba really still only have '50s American cars, as depicted in the movies? The Euros haven't had trade sanctions against them for decades. You'd think a Renault or twelve could've been traded for some cigars and rum and sexual favors in the meantime.

Cuba.

A beautiful island country.

Nice people.

Before the Castros, Cuba had the highest per capita income in all the Caribbean islands.

Terrible, tyrannical government, led by those Castro brothers for over 50 years.  But yeah, that medical care for everybody trumps anything else.

This is what California will be like in a generation.

83 A lesbian, leftist fiend-of-family acquaintance of mine recently returned from some Potemkin village type tour of Cuba and found everything "pretty good... they just don't have new cell phones..." Ironies aside about repressing gays (and not in a "culture of rape" kind of way, but a beat your ass and throw you in prison kind of way) this is the mindset of the left. Since they have no souls, everything appeals to them or not on the level of material comfort, or whether it seems more or less cool/fashionable, e.g. how much more "real" and cooler not to be "trapped" by consumer culture, etc. And so, a story once again pointing out the stark difference between freedom and unfreedom will resonate, only, with those who still embrace the values of freedom. The Progressives couldn't care less.
