The Last Shock
— Open Blogger

Okay, this one I did not expect. This is a real shock.

I knew Obama was seizing people's health insurance to distribute it to the less well-off.

But I did expect him to manage one thing: To manage to bring down the premiums for those with pre-existing conditions. After all, if we're making those who are healthy pay more than they had, naturally, the unhealthy should pay less, right?

Wrong.

Jim Angle on FoxNews just did a story on a couple in a state's High Risk Pool whose premium just went from $813 per month... to $950 per month. With higher deductibles.

In addition, when they went on the Heathcare.gov website to check the rates, website told them the cost would be half what it actually would be.

The website continues to lowball your "estimate," because people will think their premiums will be lower than they will be. Until the site starts working, and people get their real premiums, this scam can continue.

But when it actually does start working...

As Angle reports, the very people who Obamacare is supposedly designed to help, will actually also be paying more.

Given this full-spectrum disaster, Senate Democrats were reportedly "spicy" (Bret Baier's quote of a Democrat's description) in a closed-door secret (of course) meeting with the Lord of Catastrophes today.

And Open Blog. I'm tired. And I want some pizza.

So the already wildly mis-regulated and distorted health care finance system is being detonated to provide subsidized insurance to ...... what?  10 million people?  Even that?  Recall when, during the jaw-droppingly pathetic "marketing" of this catastrophe by our empty suit affirmative action president, the numbers of the involuntarily uninsured mentioned in his bizarre speeches would vary?  Because they started with a ridiculously high number and got bitch-slapped down until they were claiming far fewer than at the start.

Which by itself was a typically unbelievably unimpressive and unserious performance by this crew of idiots.

So this massive self-inflicted disaster could have been averted by cutting checks to a few million households for subsidies.   Ditto for the "pre-existing condition" crowd.

43 Those weren't the people this was designed to help, Ace.

The couple in the Jim Angle story already had insurance through the State's high-risk pool.

This is designed to "help" those without insurance.

Now, that group includes those with pre-existing conditions who had no access to a high-risk pool (who might actually need the help), and those who had no coverage because they chose to have no coverage (who most definitely didn't need, nor want, the "help".

Unfortunately, this is yet another example (one of many) of folks in the Federal Bureaucracy saying "we know how to make a market run more efficiently, and effectively, than those who made the market run for the last umpteen years". Adding layers of sandpaper does not make the surface between consumer and seller smoother. It chafes.

92 Trunk Monkey

Is there anything besides prayer that the VIA houshold can do to help the family?
I am assuming that the family will try to spend max time at Hopkins, and I don't remember the commute time from your place to Hopkins.

Anyhow,,,,Towson, not Terribly far from downtown.
The ability to provide a home cooked meal, and a short break from the hospital before returning to there.

Our home, and our hearts are open.
Hopefully no allergies to cats.

You can find me on the AoSHQ group for particulars.

109 Given this full-spectrum disaster, Senate Democrats were reportedly "spicy" (Bret Baier's quote of a Democrat's description) in a closed-door secret (of course) meeting with the Lord of Catastrophes today. Damn pizza blog without obligatory pic of Giadda's hooter's hovering over the pie? Wazzzup with dat?

FYI, I make some pretty mean pie. Cut my tooth working in a pizza joint when I was in high school and have mastered a cracker crust. I take a tin of canned pasta sauce like Hundt's and bump it up with an addition of fresh-ground black pepper, fennel and garlic powder. I like a mushroom black olive. Don't forget to sprinkle oregano over the cheese before you pop it into the highest heat your oven can deliver onto a stone.

Too hot in the kitchen? Put your stone in the gas grill and crank it up!

Andrew Sullivan, all conflicted and stuff:

I love this president, regard him as the sanest man in Washington, think his two terms still have the potential to be transformative, believe his foreign policy has been cool-eyed and under-appreciated, and know that he helped preside over a civil rights revolution not seen in decades.

But he over-sold his well-intentioned, moderate plan for universal health insurance. He made a decision in a polarized climate to over-simplify to the point of near-deception. I don’t think it’s outright deception because the plan does indeed mean that large numbers of people will not be forced to switch plans so much as upgrade some. But he still said something that was untrue and he underlined it with a “period”, meaning there were no caveats.

So, even when the website WORKS, it still gets things wrong? LOL!

Posted by: Aslan's Girl at November 06, 2013 07:10 PM (KL49F)

This probably came from the estimator 'feature' on the 404 website. They only have two categories for age, over and under 52. So the estimator uses 27 for the young, and 52 for the old. In other words, the cheapest possible ages for the categories. So when the 60 yo sees the ACTUAL rates, they are nowhere near the 'estimated' ones.

This is not a bug, but a feature of the estimator function. And I'm using the word function very very loosely here.

It's lies, all the way down.

Great movie.  Tremendous acting from Schell, Garland and Cliff.  The ending scene when Tracy gently but truthfully confronts Lancaster on his action, is one of the most stirring scenes in the cinema.  Makes we want to dig out my old tape that I recorded about 20 years ago when it played on TNT.

240 Here's the thing about Obamacare that really hasn't hit home yet:

For 99% of Americans, its an unmitigated disaster.

That 1% that will 'benefit' isn't where you'd think:  Its the 55-64 year olds, wealthy, who have retired early, have insurance pre-Obamacare, but don't yet qualify for Medicare.  They're on the receiving end of the the 'community rating' redistribution and might get lower rates, especially if they have serious pre-existing conditions.

That's it, everyone else is screwed.  Even these people are screwed as soon as they turn 65, because Obamacare pillages $714 BILLION from Medicare for just the first 10 years and >$100 billion each year after.  Plus, it killes Medicaid Advantage.  Plus, Obamacare creates a brand new Agency whose sole mandate is to find yet more ways to cut Medicare.

Posted by: Callawyn at November 06, 2013 09:49 PM (+7Wfv)

241 Which once again points to the intentional dysfunctionality of the ObamaCare web portal. They have to distract so that people don't focus on the real issue, EVERYONE pays more. How else did you think all those new bureaucrats running ObamaCare were going to be paid? It's a jobs program for liberals foisted on the backs of the American people. Here's a hint, why were federal block grants to the States all the rage back in the 70's & 80's? It cut out the bureaucracy which in many cases actually cost MORE than money sent to the recipients! Obama's vision is of Cuba.
