The Partisan Fog Machine Speaks: "Trayvon Could Have Been Me"
— Ace

The left is ooohing of course, like Baby Just Said His First Word.

The racial condescension among liberals is staggering.

Obama said, “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.”

Only if he also did Total Absorption and blow and was thinking about doing heroin.

Obama added that he had experienced racial profiling personally: "There are very few African-American men who haven't had the experience of being followed in a department store — that includes me."

During his years with the Choom Gang, I assume. I'm sure they never shoplifted.

Obama also said, “Reasonable doubt was relevant, and they rendered a verdict. Once the jury's spoken, that's how our system works.”

Obama said he was "bouncing around" ideas with his staff on how to respond to the Zimmerman verdict, adding, "I think it is going to be important for us to do some soul searching."

Soul searched, I guess. Mind. Blown.

Pushing against Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, Obama stated, "If Trayvon Martin was of his age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk?" both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different."

That doesn't even make any sense.

Criminals count one peoples' need to appear polite and to not offend anyone, even questionable strangers. This is how you become a crime statistic!

The next thing I know my son runs in the house and a few minutes later a cop comes up with his black friend in tow. The cop asks if I know this "boy", the cop was black alsoÂ…. I said yes and he said that they got 3 911 calls about suspicious activity. I guess when a black kid is knocking on a door that is suspiciousÂ…. The cop said that my Wigger and his friend ran offf when they saw him. I thought maybe they were looking for a house to rob. Well, of course it does not.

_South Park_ brought to the attention of the world the "Chewbacca defense" model in court, whose sole merit is that it "does not make sense".

Then in the Zimmerman trial, we saw the first-ever deployment of the Chewbacca prosecution model. Whose sole merit was that it did not make sense.

Now we're on to the Chewbacca lefty political spin model. And, you guessed already, it does not make sense. Here's the deal: it doesn't have to, and it's not meant to.

200 The "Stand Your Fucking Ground" law would absolutely have applied to an armed Trayvon, who (it goes without saying) should have shot Bob Zimmerman, Dylan, whatever the hell his name is. And that's how the outcome would have been different! Of course, then I would be protesting the unfair arrest and persecution of Trayvon by the racist cops and prosecutors.

1. We don't know if Martin was, in fact, "profiled".
2. Racial profiling is not murder.

We need to be careful not to defend profiling while defending Zimmerman, because they're two different matters.  Even if profiling doesn't bother you the way it bothers black Americans, it's two different matters and they need to be discussed separately.  Lumping them together ramps up the emotion while shredding the logic.

Yes because Trayvon attacked GZ to begin with? Yes both the result of that fight and the jury verdict would have been very different. Or if GZ was unarmed and Trayvon just continued with his plan to senselessly beat him, similar results.

Obama didn't suggest it might be a good time for parents to reflect on how they're raising their kids and consider their future and safety in this world. But Obama would never ever say that. Obama wants there to be Trayvons, lots of them, in fact. Dead or alive, Obama don't care. Trayvons are good political props.

Uh, okay. Trayvon did "stand his ground," with his fists. Fists ARE weapons, frequently cited as implements of homicide in DoJ/FBI crime stats reports that the SCOAMF clearly has never bothered to read. So much for the "unarmed" bit. If St. Skittles of the Sacred Hoodie HAD been otherwise armed -- with, say, the pistol featured in some of his tweets -- there would have been a shootout, I suppose, resulting in a varying number of casualties. Which, yeah, qualifies as a difference in outcome and aftermath.

Putting aside my view of Zimmerman's utter lack of tactical awareness (Gee, what if that suspicious character isn't running away at all but instead has doubled back and is on an intercept course with me right at this moment?), Florida's Stand Your Ground law didn't apply. By the time Zimmerman was aware of Martin coming at him, Martin was hitting him and then straddling him and pounding his head into the pavement. There was no time to run and no avenue of escape. The President, an attorney himself, knows this.

Now would be a good time for a prominent Republican politician to stick his neck out and speak truth to power. If the GOP Establishment is staying quiet because they're worried about being perceived as a pack of old white guy bigots, that horse left the barn in 2008, when Obama announced his candidacy and when any criticism of either Obama or the Democrats became instantly racially suspect. We're going to be smeared with the racist brush no matter what we say or do, so we might as well speak the truth out loud about this and other racially-tinged issues.

None of these figureheads gives a tinker's damn about Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman, or any else . If they really gave a damn about black teenagers getting shot, they would do something about the drug wars in the neighborhoods of Chicago.

Then I became President...

Or is that not what he said?  It seems to be what he said, doesn't it?

Let's talk about the last 35 years, by all means.

For the last 4 decades we've had countless social programs aimed at "advancing" black people, and supposedly equalizing the playing field and opening opportunities.

Enough time has passed now we can examine the results. Other than making Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton rich and famous, who benefited from all of that social engineering?

They set up a system in which a few can do well by exploiting the many who get left behind. For example, Obama is chosen by Harvard Law to be their token. Toure is chosen by Rollin Stone to be their angry opinionated African American. Etc.

You really think Toure, Sharpton, or Jesse Jackson want most Blacks to succeed? You really think they want to prevent black teens from ending up like Trayvon Martin? Of course not; their careers would be over.

Iran’s foreign ministry on Friday criticized the acquittal of George Zimmerman and chastised the United States for widespread “racial discrimination.”

“The acquittal of the murderer of the teenage African American once again clearly demonstrated the unwritten, but systematic racial discrimination against racial, religious, and ethnic minorities in the US society,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi was quoted as saying by Iran’s state run Fars News Agency.

“The court ruling has also seriously put under question the fairness of the judicial process in the United States,” Fars reported Araqchi as saying.

I think you all are missing the larger point here.  Barack Obama is first and last a community organizer.  It's demonstrably the only job he ever had that he was any good at.  Alinsky's Rules for Radicals is his Bible.

It's dumb to even mention all the *other* black teens that are being killed every day.  The Alinsky way is to pick a single case and personalize everyone's anger around that.  That person does not have to be your enemy; it can also be someone you sympathize with and know your followers will sympathize with.  Obama and his minions have done that brilliantly in this case.  Nobody feels like they can do anything about 5000 murders in Chicago,  but by God I can go wear a T shirt with Trayvon's picture on it, and stand in a candlelight vigil, and argue endlessly on Facebook and Twitter about how "unjust" this verdict was, and pretend like I know something about America.

And what is the point of all this agitating?  To keep lots of black Americans -- and white liberals who run the media -- thinking about "racism," and "injustice," instead of thinking about "unemployment."

It is - as others have pointed out - because of the name George Zimmerman. That is a white sounding name; specifically a Jewish sounding white name. Had his name been Jesus Martinez you would never have heard of the case.

The left wing machine was looking for a "white kills black" story to ferment racial strife. That they screwed up and got GZ was an accident. Once they had run the story they were stuck with it. That is why he became a "white Hispanic".

The story is part of the narrative. The left does not want calm and peaceful they want chaos.

All I can say to them is "Be careful what you wish for".

480 As far as Mr. Martin carrying a gun and "Stand your ground"---he was under 18. And even if it had been kosher for him to have a gun, the question then would have been "whom do we choose to believe?", and the nod still would have gone Zimmerman's way, and righttfully so. A society that does not put a premiuim on good citizenal behavior is one guaranteed to fall into decay. I must conclude the President is still determined to make African-Americans the saintly Levite class of America, the interperters of what is to be considered good America, the perpetual holders of moral high ground (irrespective of facts), instead of just equals. This is a fatal conceit, because it is usually an all or nothing proposition, and there is too much jackassery in the black underclass itself for the answer to be "all". In other words, I say a decent good black man is just a man, as I am. I will give him no special status, no unique place. None at all. I will instead take him as he is, a man. And as to those elements exhibiting traits destructive themselves and society, I see no reason to hold my tongue because of their skin color. Why should I?

484 The offending section of the Michigan Constitution- “The accrued financial benefits of each pension plan and retirement system of the state and its political subdivisions shall be a contractual obligation thereof and shall not be diminished or impaired thereby,” As a result, the pension plans are playing hardball with any negotiations I'm guessing that the courts may not let the bankruptcy court unilaterally reduce those amounts. HOWEVER... it says nothing about letting such pension plans stay in place for current Detroit employees in their current form. I'm wondering if this will allow the city to re-write the employment contract with civil servants to start a "new" pension fund which has much smaller benefits and require larger payments be made by the employees to pay off the debt from the previous system.

And if I'd have done that 35 years ago, then I could've been killed for that moment of stupidity, too.  And so could have Joe Biden.  And so could have Madonna.  And so could have Sean Penn.  And so could have Raymond Kelly.  And so could have Charles Barkley.  And so could have Al Sharpton.  And so could have....  The fact remains that none of us did that.  We made sound choices not to attack people, and our skin color matter not one bit.  Once again, Mr. Obama's words fail him and further stirs up animosity.

#486 I am pretty sure California has a similar provision in its Constitution and Orange County found a work-around for it in its bankruptcy.

At any rate, a state court cannot stop a FILING of bankruptcy in federal court, simply because of this provision.  The pension plan or pensioners would have to sue later in state court once the bankruptcy plan is submitted.  And I still think federal bankruptcy law will trump even the state Constitution, though this might not have been litigated before.

568 alexthechick - why involve Federalism? An entity with contractual obligations it cannot meet is seeking the protection of a Federal court to re-organize its affairs under court supervision. I don't see what anyone in Michigan can do about it. Posted by: Jean at July 19, 2013 03:52 PM (x0UH9) Let me repeat, yet again, that there is a specific Michigan State Constitutional provision at play. Section 24 of the Michigan State Constitution reads as follows: Section 24: Public Pension Plans and Retirement Systems, Obligation - The accrued financial benefits of each pension plan and retirement system of the state and its political subdivisions shall be a contractual obligation thereof which shall not be diminished or impaired thereby. Financial benefits, annual funding. Financial benefits arising on account of service rendered in each fiscal year shall be funded during that year and such funding shall not be used for financing unfunded accrued liabilities. That is not a law. That is not an ordinance. That is in the Constitution for the state. It approaches something like metaphysical certainty that a Chapter 9 bankruptcy, which is under Federal law, will result in the diminution of accrued financial benefits of a pension plan and retirement system of a political subdivision of the state of Michigan, which is in direct contravention of the state Constitution. The reason that a state judge is involved is because the Governor appointed an overseer for Detroit and that overseer has now taken a state that can be argued to be in direct violation of a state Constitutional provision. The proper jurisdiction for that is in the state courts, not the Federal courts, since it is a state matter. The question is whether state actors violated state Constitutional protections. That should be in state courts. Again, I am not saying that I have any idea how to square this circle but there are significant issues regarding the interplay of Federal bankruptcy law and state Constitutional provisions. Everyone needs to take a step back from the very well deserved vituperation for that mewling quim and consider that there are actual significant questions as to how to handle this situation while still preserving the necessity of municipal bankruptcy with respect for a state's Constitution.

Alex - I am sure the Detroit people are well aware of that provision in the state constitution.  And there may be ways to reorganize the city's finances without touching the pensions.  The judge was out of order to assume otherwise.  A federal bankrupcty filing by itself does not violate the state constitution.  That's why this ruling was premature and should be just ignored by the city.

At any rate this is going to be super-fun to watch.  Blue-on-blue fighting is what we need.  Once the money stops because the borrowing cannot continue, we will get a war among all the left constituencies fighting over the scraps.  Then we win.  Liberals know this too.

The follow on foot part. You are non-uniformed. Following someone on foot at night could reasonably be perceived as an aggressive act. Continue to do it long enough and it can be reasonably interpreted as an imminent threat. Had Trayvon been further from home (such that getting to safety wasn't an option), and didn't have a cellphone to call the police, it could be construed that Trayvon acted in preemptive self defense* to a clear imminent threat to his life where no other possible remedy was available. In which case Zimmerman who should have known following someone could be interpreted as a threat, would have rightly been convicted of manslaughter 2 as Trayvon wouldn't have been committing a felony when he attacked him.

588 How about that? Martin could have attended Oberlin, Columbia and Harvard too! Actually that's not so far-fetched, and Rachel Jentel may be on that trajectory.

I have to admit that IF this had involved Barky, the media would have had a more difficult, though not insurmountable, problem describing GZ as 'White Hispanic' without describing O. as 'White Black', or something like that. Putting aside the manifest tragedy of the entire still-evolving event, it would have been interesting to see how the media would have handled it.

It occurs to me that Obama, Holder, and Race Hustler's Inc. actually are  engaged a stalking of GZ that far transcends any 'stalking' that GZ did. But, you know, self-evidence and logic are concepts foreign to progressives.

There is a great deal of imagination/rationalization associated with that. First of all, Martin was on private property..., and he was a guest at that. People walk in my community all of the time, and at any given time some are following one another. If your perspective is that to do such constitutes 'imminent threat', then we should brace for a rash of 911 calls, as people engage in 'preemptive self defense'. I'm not worried, because the people here are not idiots, nor do I believe that your perspective has a rational basis. It is merely gross rationalization to support an argument for which there is not a scintilla of evidence, based entirely on an imagined scenario. If you have something to state that does not include 'if', 'might', 'had', or a host of other imagined conditionals, then post away. Otherwise, all that you offer is totally unfounded speculation.

601 Chapter 9 bankruptcy is not the same as a corporate or personal bankruptcy. Since a municipality cannot simply be sold off to satisfy debts, chapter 9 is structured differently. From what I have read, I don't think the judge has any standing to STOP the filing of the Chapter 9 ( that somehow dishonors her prezzy), but the Federal Bankruptcy court should then have the power to determine case law, etc. as it relates to how the pensions are settled to the satisfaction of the state constitution. And it will be a warning to other states that enshrine such ridiculous ideas as public pensions are untouchable in a state constitution.

I doubt that would have stood up. All Trayvon had to do if he felt threatened was to start knocking on doors and request sanctuary. Even if nobody would let him into their home just waking up the neighborhood would have made nearly anyone following him withdraw. Unless, of course, he was known to most residents as the Neighborhood Watch guy and

Also, Zimmerman wasn't following him at the time Martin attacked. He'd lost him. Even if Martin had no place to go in the neighborhood, he could easily have maintained his distance and left the area. The prosecution's stance supports this. The choice to have a confrontation was entirely Martin's. Further, the choice to immediately escalate to violence was entirely Martin's. He made no attempt to ask at shouting distance, "Why are you following me?"

Nothing, including the prosecution's star witness, indicates Martin ever felt threatened. Rather, the response to Zimmerman appear to have been solely anger. People who have been caught doing something they know was wrong often react that way. Plenty of people can look back on such moments in their own youth, including several of us. The difference is that we didn't react by making the other person feel in danger for their life. Perhaps one of us did and had the good fortune to be physically overpowered rather than shot. If Zimmerman had the right training for such a situation the world would be saved this whole business. At least until the race baiters found a new martyr.

I've also had the experience of getting slow or rude service from a waiter or waitress. Yep, that's right. The left doesn't want a civil war but not for that reason. Another civil war won't have a globally salable theme like "Free the slaves!" It will likely mean that several states drop from the union. Freedom would be allowed to persist. If that were to happen, a lot of good working folks like me stuck in CA would leave the US for the new nation. And you would have prosperity right next to desolation. Then you wouldn't be able to hide the failure of your ideology. That's why Colorado is so important. It breaks the western conservative geographical powerblock, and would make it difficult to form a new nation with WY ID TX OK KS UT NE ND SD MT which would put the old US out of business in a generation.

620 You listen to the black pundits long enough and you start to think that this whole racial situation is somewhat tribal, i.e. that to them if white people stick to killing white people and black people stick to killing black people, somehow that maintains the status quo or something; just the tribes straightening themselves out. But when it's an interracial thing, either way victim/perp, no matter what the crime, the black person, or person of color (translation: put upon minority), is always the victim, the loser, getting the shaft in the system, trodden down for no discernable reason, cheated of justice.Facts, the law, investigations into the truth of the event, at the end of the day, don't matter at all.

627 The sad, sad part of all this (OK, one of the sad, sad parts), is that King Barry, were he an actual leader, could have brought the hammer down on much of this racial divisiveness long, long ago. All he had to do when Skip Gates was yelling and screaming about racial injustice and police who didn't KNOW WHO HE WAS was to get in front of the cameras and say loud and clear that folks should just (essentially) stfu and lay off the race baiting. Let the judicial process work itself out. Fast forward to now and all he had to do was use the bully pulpit to tell the race baiters to (essentially) stfu during the Zimmerman trial, and to let the judicial process work itself out. Once that was done, the matter was closed. We are a nation of laws. Instead he made, and continues to make, comments that just squirt more gasoline in the vicinity of the fire.
