The Senate continuing resolution [Purp]
— Open Blogger

Full text here, its about 500 pages of spendy, spendy, spendy

I wasn't but to page 16 or so and was shaking my head in disbelief over the shit we're spending BIG CASH on. Page 11 for example - Dept Ag can spend over $1B buying up more land. WTF? If you're strapped, the last thing you need to do is be blowing money on more land, which removes it from the local tax base by the way.

It goes on and on...

We're not even trying to trim a little around the edges. The Sequester is a complete fraud.

4 It has zero chance of passing.  This was an ALL Democrat bill written behind closed doors.

Note also that they used that old dodge of taking an already passed House bill for this violation of the Constitution.

6 McConnell on the Senate doing it's actual job.

"“Doing this has been a herculean feat but itÂ’s been done by the leadership of Senator (Patty) Murray with Senator (Jim) Sessions. I think we all should recognize how hard this has been for some time,” he said drawing rousing applause from the chamber.  “You may not feel it at the moment but this is one of the SenateÂ’s finest days in recent years and I commend everyone who has participated in this historic debate,” said McConnell."

17 well, Drudge did link to this (Breitbart):

Documentary Filmmaker Michael Moore on MSNBC's Ed show...

"Did you realize that over 90% of the guns in this country are owned by white people in the suburbs and in rural areas? Ninety-percent of our guns are not owned by African-Americans, hispanics, minority groups, they're owned by white people. Now are these white people so afraid of out in the suburbs? Are they thinking little red head, freckle-faced Jimmy down the street is going to, you know, kill them? Mug them? I don't think so. Are they afraid the guy next door is gonna break in and steal their t.v.? No, because they know the guy next door makes $50-60,000 a year. So poverty and racism the answer is pretty much the same answer for a lot of our other problems. Jobs..."

27 It's a scam. Senators and Representatives are nothing more than transfer agents. The more $$ spent, the more graft for the members of Congress. For those of you in Rio Linda, the Congress members are making a commision off spent tax dollars. Bribes, kickbacks, donations, contracts for friends, etc., not to mention power and influence. It's in the best interest of all members of Congress to spend as much $$ as possible.

79 "I am utterly confident there is not a person on the planet who read the entire final text of that bill prior to a vote being taken upon it."

I keep figuring that this would be a highly productive angle for candidates.

Run ads showing, e.g., the towering stack of paper that is Obamacare, and say,

"This is nonsense. It's no way to govern. It mocks the intelligence of the public. If elected I won't have anything to do with these huge paper piles. I pledge I will read and understand every bill for which I vote, and I pledge that I will vote NO on any bill which is incomprehensible or larger than fifty pages in length."

I never see any candidates proposing this. So I must assume that the consultantocracy are advising against it. No surprise there. Given how well the consultants' advice worked out last time round.

The Republican Party and Conservatives supported the ethnic cleaning of Iraqi Christians. Do you really think that they care about Syrian Christians? The GOP has played a con job with American Christians using issues like abortion and Gay marriage to whip them up for votes. But look at the actions of the Republican Party. It's foreign policy is pro-Muslim and anti-Christian.

We need more optimism like that. Also, shock collars for politicians.

The way they went about this bill they make it tough to tell.  Because they took a bill that was already passed in the House and completely reworded it. If you go to the gov bill tracker it looks like it has already passed the House.  You have to read deep into it to see that it now needs to resolve the differences.

This is a pure scam to get around the Constitution that says all revenue bills must originate in the House.  And I know why the Republicans have not taken this to court.  It is because they do it too.

I've been following Cyprus closely and I have a really bad feeling that the can will no longer be kicked down the road.

In which case, for the US, let's start the mission to Mars! One trillion dollars. Hell that's only $100 Billion a year over 10 years. And the way the US dollar is being depreciated, it will be like going to Mars on the cheap!

302 We really are bankrupt, it's just that something this big doesn't stop moving overnight. Likely true. There is a good chance when our ship of state runs aground, it will happen so slowly or with such a protracted series of small lurches that many will not recognize what has happened. Like the frog in slowly heating water, one day we'll look around and realize the economy is cooked. Slow stagnation, not a bang but a whimper.
