The "We Don't Want to Know" Form of Bias
— Ace

We Don't Want to Know, and We Can't Report It If We Never Discover It, so Let's Just Give this One a Miss.

You've seen this, of course, in the Gosnell case. The media suspects the details of the case would not be helpful for the pro-partial-birth-abortion left and therefore does not endeavor to collect the details. You can't be charged with failing to disclose what you intentionally made yourself ignorant of.

We also see this in the case of Dzhohkar Tsarnaev. Why did USAToday alone get the scoop on the radical mosque and its myriad terrorist connections?

Not just hard work and beating everyone to the punch. Though they should be credited with that.

No, they got the scoop because other media organizations realized The News Would Probably Not Help the Left and hence gave it a pass.

Meanwhile, the NYT, for example, spends its journalistic dollars to interview the Lovely Lads' former high-school classmates and other such The Human Side soft-soap.

USAToday went to where the news was likely to be; the New York Times did not.

This is not because the New York Times didn't know there was some news to be had there. Rather, it's because they had the same notion USAToday had -- that there would be a scoop there -- and deliberately chose to not land that scoop, preferring to write stories about Tsarnaev's dreams of wrestling and Tamarlan's dreams of... well, I'd imagine not having his fucking face run over by a car driven by his brother would up there on his list of dreams.

When the right says the media "hasn't covered a story," the media's defenders will sometimes point to a brief stub of an article listing the very basic facts announced by officials on the matter and claim victory. "See, they 'covered' it," they claim.

But an organization doesn't devote virtually any journalist resources to a story accidentally. They make a choice. They choose which stories to suffocate for want of media oxygen.

If you're reading the New York Times, you're not reading the news. You haven't been reading the news there for quite some time.

What you're reading is a supplementary brief to the DNC's and liberal coalition's newsletter-- the footnotes to that newsletter.

But not the news. Never the news, and by design.

Bonus: Iowahawk parodized the left making a Holden Caufiled comparison last night, before the NYTimes decided to do it for real.

20 It's irritating as heck that more often than not we have to get domestic US news coverage from a place like the Daily Mail.

21 Why did USAToday alone get the scoop on the radical mosque and its myriad terrorist connections? Is USA Today a non-liberal paper, or is it typically liberal but occasionally does actual reporting because it wants to stay in business?

22 Interesting point here: I agree with the analysis, but since when did pointing out that the perpetrator was a Muslim suddenly become "this does not help the left?"  Could it be because the left is far more concerned with tearing down the US, and all traces of Christianity and "whiteness" than it is with anything else?  Is it the enemy of my enemy is my friend?

Does the left honestly think that when (if I may, VERY ironically, loosely borrow a phrase from "Lawrence of Arabia") they defeat the Christians that the Muslims will sit down quietly under them?  Has Western egocentrism SO infected the left that they are that blind to reality?

26 Kinda of like how the left always wants to argue for citations if you make an argument and wants you to defend every statement. But if you ask them to provide citations to back up their assertions or factually argue against your statement, or the negative of their argument, they refuse. Bunch of spineless bullies.

Had an idiot woman try to tell me Christians were responsible for as much terrorism as Muslims today and that Islamic countries oppress woman no more than western ones. Posted by: Patrick at April 24, 2013 07:50 PM (Qi6dG)

Theres a different... pathology... at play here.

Post WWII, the World has not been able to affect America in a meaninful way... Korea was a tie, but no effect... VietNam a Loss... and no effect... Desert Storm?  A tie (because we didn't finish it)... Iraq and Afganistan?  The US Military is at war, the People are not...

So there are generations on the Left, who do not really believe that what they do will have any effect... that some Magical Duex Ex Machina will come and save America from their stupidity.

ie... they no longer believe in cause and effect... just perception.

So they will admit that Islam itself, is at war with the West.  That its fundamental writing and beliefs are NOT compatable with our way of life... because the Left (in their Hubris) believes that THEY will not be effected.

And this is nothing new.  Pulitzer winning American journalists hid the terror famine in the Ukraine during the 30s because it would have made Socialism - which they favored in America - look bad.  So they hid one of the greatest atrocities in human history.

When Socialism arrived in America, from that point onward our journalists became willing propagandists for it.  The entire twentieth century must be viewed through that prism - journalists were only pro-American in so far as it advanced Socialism.

97 "Ted Cruz is trying like hell. That's why there's a jihad against him"

Cannot resist OT: I wasn't sure what to make of Cruz at first, but I am turning into a massive Ted-head. The guy is really smart, really determined and working his ass off to block the lefty agenda. Thank you, Texas voters!

The one thing I haven't changed on is the thought that as far as wooing "Hispanic" votes goes, as some on the right expect Cruz might do on a national scale, he's a nonstarter. Trust me on this.

I live in Hispanic central, a.k.a. Alta Mexico, a.k.a. The People's Soviet Socialist Republic of Commiefornia, and you can't live here for long without realizing certaint things about Hispanics. First off being how incredibly non-monolithic and variegated a group they are. And second off, how much many of the various Hispanic sub-ethnicities don't like each other one bit. There are massive internal schisms.

Cuban-Americans like Cruz are a small, and increasingly small, percentage of American Hispanics. The absolutely overwhelming preponderance of American Hispanics (native-born, legal immigrant, illegal immigrant, what have you) today are of Mexican origin.

And from what I can tell, Mexican-origin Hispanics here in Commiefornia, where there are a metric fuckton of them and more of them every blessed day, don't give a single pea-sized shit about Cuba. And don't consider Cuban-origin status to be of any particular relevance to themselves, politically or culturally or otherwise.

Note that every word of this critique about Cruz being not necessarily able to get traction with Hispanics is equally applicable to Marc-down Rube-io, also out of a Cuban background.

If you want the bulk of U.S. Hispanics to feel genuine solidarity and sympathy with a nominee, you better go get a Mexican nominee. Just the facts, m'am.

Exactly. My liberal boss subscribes to the NY Times, reads the novels on their best-seller list and listens to NPR on the way into work. She considers far more well-informed than some Honey Boo Boo watching yahoo - or a Fox news viewer. which to her is the same thing. How do you challenge the beliefs of people like that? If you say, "No, that isn't true" and they ask "well, what's your source for that?" and you say "Fox" or "National Review" or "a conservative blog" they simply shut you off (as I do when a moonbat cites Media Matters or MSNBC).

They consider us to be the propagandized ones, while Paul Krugman and all the other asshats at the NY Times are clearsighted and reasonable.

Which also explains the refusal of the MSM to cover inconvenient truths. When you start lying, you have to keep up the story. If cracks in the narrative start appearing, people might start thinking you've been lying to them all along. And that just wouldn't do, would it?

We don't operate by looking at our neighbor and making decisions based on what they do. we evaluate on our own what to do and how to do it.

which is why we're so bad at counteracting the hive mind. We don't think the way they do. (and I use think in very broad terms)

167 Blue Falcon: what is really annoying me is the insistence that these terrorist scumbags who lived on the taxpayer's dime and given a scholarship were made to "feel alien" in America. When someone says that, the answer should be "Oh, really? They lived in ultra- liberal Cambridge, not Jackson, Mississippi. So are you saying that Cambridge leftists really aren't the tolerant, diverse types they say they are? That it's all a sham and a lie and they're as bigoted as they say red state conservatives are? Gee, I guess this multi-cultie 'co-exist' crap really doesn't work then, because if it doesn't work in Cambridge, it can't work anywhere."

212 A builder acquaintance of mine had a Nicaraguan crew and said that not flushing toilet paper was a common practice among them. I also heard that for a long time, Mexican plumbing was based on a max pipe diameter of 2" which cannot handle paper (it can barely handle what you want to flush) so people purposely did not flush the paper. The newer Mexican plumbing has supposedly been upgraded to a larger diameter, but I don't intend to make a site visit anytime soon.

They are the Beast of the East..They are the Ennui. They have not contributed to the betterment of their neighbor. They are the weed in the Garden that needs to be pluck out and burned. They are Terrorists! They hide behind the veil of moderate Islam so when we are not looking then the hateful Muslim shows up to kill us. They are not a religion but a Ideology formed from someone that made up lies.

Brave Americans need to understand that we need to Clean our Neighborhoods and our Government. One agency at a Time until our American House is Clean...I am not talking done by the Government Clean but get down right 1 in clean..not 20 footer clean...You know and understand what I mean..Look at the fixed up car-Looks great 20 feet away but thats where it ends. The Contours Car clean is a tip top shape one inch sparkling masterpiece.

New York Times-They are a 20 footer paper..seems great from a distance but when you look close then you realize its a crappy turd sandwhich after all..F**K the New York Times! That paper belongs in the Kings Court-The King of Fools located at 1600 Pennslyvania Avenue..right around the corner from Hesistation Hill.
