— Gang of Gaming Morons! Good Afternoon Horde, I hope your Sunday is proceeding at a pace the NSA can keep up with.
So Big stuff this weekend. E3 Starts, Shitstorm over XBONE DRM, The Summer Eve War, The Last of Us, F*CK YOU THIS ISN"T A WORTH READING!!!!11!
So yea Zakn at the helm this week. I'm sure The Dude will post some sharp elbows along with bonus content.
Also Iceland stuff. E3 Stuff? Yea just looking forward to the legendary live Giantbomb after show streams. Mister Softy is trying to not pull a repeat performance of the Redmond disaster. Hence cancelling all their Reporter meetings. All this stuff will be handled by press release, and that sucks.
So the facts. Are muddy as shit. then there's Video Reaction from the pros If they are that boggled by it, What the fuck is your average consumer to think?
Sony is just winning by not saying anything. I bet they'll be pretty close to the same thing because it is driven not by the platforms but the publishers. I have no ill will tword Gamestop I literally haven't been there in years. I mourn for any Moron/ette that used Gamefly, as it looks like that business model is kaput. Vinny had a sad.
I definitely worry about Anon hacking them.
I think it's fucked because you travel with your console. There's no Steam equivalent to that, steam gives you two weeks to a month. I do agree with Epo that to 90% of users this will not matter. You will hook it up to your network and not care about any of this stuff. As long as they never get hacked, most people won't care. College dudes will care. Military dudes will care, and that's a biggy for me. I spent many an hour playing my N64 in my barracks with my friends. We had weekend long tourneys and leaderboards and we sure as fuck had no internet at Powerschool in Florida.
Crypto/Programming nerds I hope I haven't lost you yet. This is some great shit.
In Eve, Forum Security, like everything is Srs Bzns
I linked the Reddit post because it has an Explain it like I'm five post for the rest of us. Watermarking a forum to expose leakers. Amazing
So last part of my part Is War I guess. There's always a Summer war in Eve, and it is upon us. The two major internet forums are facing off. Goons which come from Something Awful. And Test which comes from Reddit. The faction I'm (and many Morons) in is aligned is the Goons. I also have spent the last 3 nights reading Reddit, and that makes me bloodthirsty as fuck. I grew up in a different internet than these dudes.
Join the AoShQ channel if you want to fight forums with internet space ships.
On this map it's The CFC vs The Rebels. We are invading from the north. And they are scared
Personally, I've dreamed of leading the Horde against Hotair. Or the KosKids. Imagine if we could do that. In Eve, that happens!
Oh. Pictures from Fanfest. That odd building is the Harpa, where Fanfest is held. It's outside is supposed to look like scales acknowledging Iceland's Fishing Industry (Since they are super libtard, they believe global warming and other shit is literally going to destroy fishing). Most of those pictures were taken where the North American and European plates are separating. Thats what literally keeps Icelanders warm and why thier water smells like farts. Reminded me of sprinkler water in Central Florida. Didn't bother me too much, but I'm used to H2S from working on a pipeline. Also funny note is that the Honey Badger Coalition died the week after fanfest. The flask owner is now in PL. She had a tasty peanut butter flavored vodka in it. I was a fucking zombie at that point cause I had been up for like 34 hrs.
Since this is the Moron blog, drinking advice: All the locals get shitfaced at home, and then stumble to the bars at 12:30. Thats from a mix of Alcohol being legal is a fairly recent thing, and it's super expensive. Also. Don't expect to get laid. I knew this from my Navy days. It's culturally looked down upon to sleep with outsiders. The chicks will literally walk up to you and ask you "Icelandic?" in Icelandic, and if you go no, they move on. At least thats what happened to me (Alot. I swear).
Don't miss out on The Blue Lagoon. It's AMAZING
Iceland is a super neat place to visit. I would encourage anyone to do it. The landscape is stunning and the people are super cool. Also everyone speaks English. It is fairly pricey, but it's on an island so I just thought of it like Hawaii. A cold and stark Hawaii. With blondes. Reykjavik is super walkable so no need to get a car. If you are thinking about going, drop me a line on twitter (@zakn) or at aoshqgaming at gmail dot com and i'll give you specific advice.
Oh Last minute gaming stuff. I have been playing The Castle Doctrine. It's a Tower defense game that's pretty neat. Combination of Defend and Attack, and it features real loss. It's still in Alpha, so yea. Super neat concept. Go Check it out on Youtube before you just plunge in.
Zakn oot
Going to do the whole chat on IRC again during this week's E3 press conferences. Personally won't be there for Tuesday's Nintendo Direct (I've got to do some work this week) but hopefully at least someone will be there to chat with.
E3 Press Conference Schedule (Gametrailers is streaming everything as usual)
Microsoft - 12:30 PM Eastern
EA - 4 PM Eastern
Ubisoft - 6 PM Eastern
Sony - 9 PM Eastern
Nintendo Direct - 10 AM Eastern
Nintendo Dev Interviews - 3 PM Eastern
Nintendo Wii U Breakdown - 4 PM Eastern
Nintendo Pokemon Direct - 9 PM Eastern
Nintendo Wrap up - 10 PM
Microsoft announced their their plans for DRM and whatnot. It's a digital platform with a few wrinkles namely that your discs aren't completely worthless as the publisher can allow you to trade games in. Not a big fan of the "participating retailer" but no one has a clue in how so I dunno. It does make me curious that the mainstream press is condemning it while Time has no problem with constantly praising Apple with the iPhones/iPads and Forbes and WSJ had no problem talking glowingly about stuff like Adobe going to a service based market. You guys didn't speak up then and now with majority of stuff already there or in the midst, now you find a problem with it? Sorry but that genie has already been released and there isn't a way in getting him back into the bottle. That being said from a PR standpoint, mad props to Sony for saying it's the publisher's decision on DRM and then not being asked to clarify it by the press. But this is one of the three prongs in knowledge that people need to know, other two being pricing(really want to know about azure based pricing) and what kind of added features are going to be added (they had hinted on twitter about at least doing the stuff like PS+). I just guess since I've gone through this stuff for the last 15 years in other stuff, I'm just apathetic about it (minus having tons of content at my fingertips at all times which I really do quite like).
Altus released the intro to the upcoming Dragon's Crown. Just a few more months until it's in my hands, can't wait.
On one hand, this is a horrible way to announce a game based on Fantasia:
On the other, this Polygon writeup on the actual game makes it sound really cool even if it is a bit more Fantasia 2000 than I would like
One of the two trailers that were released on Friday's morning GameTrailers show on Spike was Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z which is cross collab between Team Ninja, Kenji Inafune (MegaMan, Resident Evil and plenty of other Capcom games) and Spark Unlimited
The second trailer is the upcoming Daylight by Zombie Studios (Saw games and the Blacklight series). Horror game written and voice acted by Jessica Chobot:
And I'm out

So, it's kinda like Aliens vs. Predator: no matter who wins, all Eve players lose.

yeah, though in this case the Predators don't show up

So, anyone know what the storyline is for the new WoW update? So far it looks like it's Horde-specific which seems likely to annoy Alliance players (unless there's high level stuff for both that I'm missing due to being *not* high level).
I'm actually sort of interested because Son and I had been discussing the various fracture points in the Horde association.

When you said "As muddy as shit", did you mean these games have dark to opaque backgrounds? I hate that.
And, as always, I understood almost nothing about these games.
Get off my lawn.

I love this period in history and have read most all the primary sources on it, the game is pretty daring in choosing this period in the modern oh so Politically Correct world. Some of the reviews are a bit infuriating, projecting modern PC thought 500 years in the past, poor Aztecs and such, mean Europeans, blah, blah, blah, unicorns and kittens, "You can set history right", very predictable. The 16th century was a tough time anywhere in the world and I don't particularly find the Aztecs very sympathetic with all their human sacrifice and their own style of Imperialism. The Spanish wouldn't have had a chance without Indian allies that hated the Aztecs for their own very good reasons. Here's a sample of a review of this type, there are several in this vein.

With all this, this is a very good game that forces you to plan very carefully and think out your goals rationally, very well done from a new independent studio and I hope they'll build on their experience.

...puts you in charge of a party of your own choosing in the year 1518 in the New World.... I love this period in history and have read most all the primary sources on it.

That I understand. Victor Davis Hanson did a great piece in his book "Carnage and Culture" on the Pizarro and the Conquistadors defeating the Aztecs

So far, I've only come up with 2 answers.
1) Go to a politician he trusts (I know), e.g. perhaps a Rand Paul or whomever, and let him push the thing forward. He at least has some access to the levers of power, and the ability to draw attention to things in a way that the press will be unable to ignore.
2) Describe the program in general terms to the press, and then offer himself up for prosecution. This option has the virtue of putting the spotlight on the violation rather than on his escape to China.
It is not an easy situation.

The Dude,
Which IRC server are you using tomorrow again?
I thought about leaving the house for one of the viewing shindigs at the Microsoft store where they give stuff away, but I'd rather stay home and live the moron lifestyle sans pants.

I'm just curious if any of you assholes actually reads the comments.
Yeah, that was just to get your attention. I have an idea for the next gaming thread. What is the BEST song from a video game?
Off the top of my head, I say, the theme song from from Wild Arms 3. (I have to give myself an out, because you ACTUALLY are assholes.)

Just in case anyone thought a camera was something only Microsoft was thinking of making standard on their console. People are going to find that these machines are far more similar than they are distinct, as their designs are both driven by the same market. And that original ideas stay unique for a very limited time, sometimes not even making it to store shelves before being emulated.

I'd take the one from FFX-2. Not the opening, but the one in the middle that explains the backstory. The Opening for Disgaea 2 kicked ass, as well.
In more current news, I got Civ V Gold for $12 Friday night.
Chieftan just kicked my butt. Chieftan! Flipping Ottomans beelined their version of musketmen and swarmed me while I was making nice with the city states.
Must. Try. Again.

"I'd take the one from FFX-2. Not the opening, but the one in the middle that explains the backstory."
I'll admit, I don't know that one. I have FFX-2, but I never finished it. I don't have "Disgaea 2". I have the first one. I told myself I'd buy "Disgaea 2" after I finished the first one. I didn't finish that one, either.
Ehhhh, how about the best song from a game/anime?
