This Has Been Going Around Today
— Dave in Texas

And it's just really, really sweet. George HW Bush holding the son of one of the members of his Secret Service detail, 2 year old Patrick. Patrick is being treated for leukemia, and has lost his hair.

Bush 41 and Patrick (339x440).jpg

Patrick is the son of a Secret Service agent, Jon, who is assigned to BushÂ’s security detail in Kennebunkport, Maine. (Their last names were withheld at the familyÂ’s request.)

Recently, other members of the security unit started to bare their domes in support of Patrick, and they started to raise money for his treatment.

There is also a website set up to help with Patrick's medical bills.

All the bald headed men below the fold..

The Bushes are not and will never be my idea of quality Presidential material, but they're good people, who love their country and care about those around them. I'll take that level of class and sincerity over the Mocha Messiah and his cult of personality any day of the week.

96 >56 Culture rot will do that to a country. Set race aside, if a white couple ever said those things about the USA at any other time in the country's history, it would have disqualified them from the White House and maybe any political office. I feel really guilty about what my generation and baby boomers have done to this country. The only thing that helps me sleep at night is that our forefathers were not perfect men and that evil cannot be excised merely by just changing the law. Now, it's metastasized into a Jeremiah Wright protege president, elected on the guilt of white people who had nothing to do with their racial grievances. This cancer of racial division and grievance mongering will be this country's undoing.

As I spent most of those days weeping (out of sight of sons) I remember this well, and I stood up and cheered. I criticize his policies but he was a leader when we needed one. We have no one now, except (maybe) Senator Cruz. And he may betray me, like Rubio, before it is all over. Where are the heroes I keep praying for? I am not going to give up on this country, but I surely am tired of waiting for the winds of change in our favor.

103 I was thrilled to see GHWB do a coin flip for a Texans football game in 2011, and again in 2012. In 2011, he walked to midfield after being driven to the sidelines in a golf cart.

The following year, he was driven to midfield in the golf cart.

It was quite thrilling. It's not every day you get to see a President. God I miss having one I could at least respect, if not agree with 100%.

What a great man. Forgive me for not appreciating you more while you were in office, Mr. President.

I think we are there. I have not yet unleashed my anger at Rubio. The day is coming when his office hears from me by phone and mail. I want an answer of his betrayal. My Rep is an ok guy, but he is going to get an earful as well. No form letters to me.

Mike Hammer suggested this a couple of months ago: write real letters to your representatives and tell them no form letter as a response. Just tonight, on Fox, Senator Cruz said the people of this country need to demand Obamacare be repealed before the vote in September. I think it is high time I get off my arse. The past election worked well in demoralizing me. But I will not give up as long as I live (clutches the red clay of Tara like Scarlett, and vows she will never put up with the lies of politicians again, as God is my witness).

I look at it this way: morons and 'ettes are a pretty crazy but intelligent bunch. We can do this, uniting with other morons in our contact list. Make those public officials do their damn job.

He's not leaving because he's some "pussy."  The opposite.  His evil bastard CiC is killing the military.  Deliberately.  God help the ones still enlisting.  And I say this as a daughter growing up in the Air Force during the Cold War with a pilot daddy.  He at least knew his CiC was on our side.

Would try to make it at some point. August is not a good time for stupid hurricanes in Floriduh. I have to hunker down for most of the summer. One of my sons loves Savannah and I have told him I want to go up there next spring.

I  still would like to try to make a MoMee in the beautiful  city of Savannah. It's about 5 or 6 hours  from here, and somebody's have to put me up.

And have a good hangover remedy.

This has been stated pretty clearly in this thread, but I feel the need to add to it: politics aside, George Bush and Dubya are good men, and that, more than anything else, is why I feel such deep despair whenever I see or hear Bronco Bama, the Sun King.

Politics is a game. What is happening now feels far less like politics and much more like that queasy feeling many Germans likely felt in the '30s.

Amen. The WWII vets were a breed of their own...but I think today's breed and all vets are pretty special. I thank anyone who will let me. If you see one of these men or women, and they are wearing a veteran's hat, please go out of your way to thank them. I saw a little elderly man, frail with a cane, walking out of a restaurant just before we left. I asked his daughter if he was a veteran of WWII and she said yes. i then asked her if I could thank him (they were in the car and I did not want to scare him to death, as how often do you have an aging and insane supermodel knocking on your car window?). You could tell it meant the world to him to be thanked. I took a chance, but not a huge gamble, as most of the really elderly men you see today were veterans, hat or not. And they are leaving us at the rate of 1000 a day. Too soon we will read of the "last surviving WWII veterans." Thank them while you can.

And with that rant I am off. Love all of you. xoxo

My son had multiple heart surgeries when he was a toddler. Don't know how aware of this he was when he was 2, but when  he began talking around his 4th b-day he communicated that he knew he was different from other kids (and tried to cover all of his scars - long sleeves in July in VA=not fun).
This kid will be dealing with a whole lot of emotions now and as he becomes more aware of what he's been through, and this will help.

A funny point about that whole deal though. I could understand if it were Moral Saturday, but Monday is a work day. Why aren't these people at work, doing something constructive? Oh..., wait..., never mind.
------------------------------------------------------
We arrest a pot full of them every Monday. They are changing arrest and booking protocol because it is causing such a headache for the DA.

If they'd just club one or two, like baby seals, they'd all stay home and watch reality TV instead.

@292. I rode C130s several times way back in the day, and I remember that corkscrew thing, but they didn't do flares and chaff since it was in those halcion days before the first Gulf War. Being the medic aboard I was ready for any contingency, except for actual vomit, which meant I would be adding to the mess.

When I was 9 or so, and tobacco was still THE cash crop in eastern SC, the only way to harvest tobacco was by hand. The tobacco was loaded into sleds in the field and transported to a pack house. The sleds were pulled by mules. My job was to unhitch the mules from the empty sled,  and move them to the full sled to start the round trip again. My grandfather finally could afford a tractor when he was in his late 60's. It was a John Deere tricycle (Maybe a Model B..., I don't recall). Hard work..., but my grandfather had to mortgage the farm every year to make things work..., and the mortgage had to be paid. The entire family worked their asses off.

353 Yeah, a lot of farmers worked like that back then. Some still do.

355 This is a great showcase so far for the next generation of Nascar talent -- Kyle Larson, Bubba Wallace, the Dillon brothers.

357 I did this last year, shaved my head to raise money for St. Baldrick's Foundation. My step-brother has two untreatable forms of brain cancer. Lovely husband shaved his too, so I didn't feel stupid bald. Let me tell you, a 40-year-old bald woman gets a lot of looks. I felt like I should have had a sign... One side saying "I'm not sick, this is on purpose" and the other, "I'm a redhead, don't mess with me".

358 Duuude your G-Pa was bad ass !!!!! heh.>>

My Father's stories about my G-Pa (My dad had us clearing swamp) and the crap he made him do were worse. And both of these guys were Professionals (My Father a Doctor And his a Lawyer). For whatever reason they needed that manual labor part to stay grounded or something. And I am dam thankful since my father taught me electrical, plumbing and carpentry. All skills I'll need in the burning times. I learned engines on my own though.

359 321 Dubya still does the visits with disabled vets. Posted by: CSMBigBird at July 24, 2013 10:16 PM (K8169) Yes he does. A few weeks ago Twitchy had the evidence. About the 2003 Iraq surprise visit, I remember Blackfive featuring a first-hand account of it. The soldier who was there said that the building shook from applause and cheers when GWB came out and that he (the soldier) was sitting at a table with a bunch of others who were all crying with happiness at the fact that their CinC came to visit them. Yes, he made all those big, tough warriors cry. They (we) loved him because he loved them back.

361 281 So all an elitest, statist, globalist prick has to do to make people who were starting to "get it" forget about what he was and is, is get a haircut and hold a sick child on his lap. Got it. Ron spent 8 years trying to turn this country back towards it's founding principles and Bush put us back on course towards the cliff of serfdom in less than 2, and garners all this love and accolades. Class, character, honor, what have you, aren't about how you "act" in public. Where the rubber meets the road both HW & W were total fail. Posted by: nothinglefttolose at July 24, 2013 10:01 PM (J3IzX) Yep. When people start holding up either Bush as examples of great presidents, we are well and truly fucked.

362 @ 324 M hammer.  My G-Pa was a farmer, then he opened a implement and sold Oliver tractors.  The business burnt to the ground  in 64?  But he never looked back,  just found another job selling nuts bolts and bearings. He was a hell of a man!  As i'm sure your father was also!

Any man with a modicum of testosterone who has ever watched one of the big supercharged Olivers (990?) at a tractor pull, wants one.

369 A C-5 pulls off the active at FRA and taxis behind a UA 747. The C-5 c/o then asks the captain of the smaller 747, 'Hey little buddy, what's your gross?' Not to be outdone, the UA c/o replies 'About 200,000 a year, how about you?'

Another one at FRA...a BOAC c/o was having difficulty taxiing and kept asking for directions. An obviouly perturbed german controller shouts back 'Have you never been to Frankfurt before?!?!?" Tha BOAC c/o replies 'Yes, but it was 40 years ago, at night, and we didn't stop!'
