I'm pretty much in tears over here. My BIL arrived home from Afghanistan just the other day. Met his youngest daughter for the first time. I just got to see the pics. The one that did me in is where the Patriot Guard (appears to be them) is welcoming my BIL home. Flags, at attention, saluting. They're lined up at the bottom of the escalator in the airport, my BIL is riding down while holding the daughter he just met and his 5 yr old son is at the bottom of the escalator, saluting his dad.

I was at Infantry OSUT in '82....which I argue was tougher than IOBC, and our washout rate wasn't quite that high. More like 30%.

Now...Ranger School? Yeah, that was about 50%.

I think he's wrangled himself into a game of chicken and he was pretty sure we'd swerve first as we have always done. Now his choices are to back away and look like a chump or keep raising the stakes in a desperate hope we come to the table to negotiate.

He's stuck in a cycle of escalation. I think it will end badly for him as a result.

My thoughts on North Korea...

Best case scenario, he tries and fails to launch a nuke, and takes out part of his own country instead. Mass military defections, and S Korea is able to move in and unify Korea under a sane system.

Worst case scenario, the nukes work and he takes out Seoul or hits us on Guam (as long as it doesn't tip over).

Obama does...nothing at all, and thus gives all other world destroyers a green light to bomb us at will.
