— andy Simply excellent!
HereÂ’s a transcript (the cameraman missed the first paragraph).
The past Monday I decided to visit the Minuteman Park in Lexington and pay tribute to Captain John Parker and his fellow minutemen. A thought came to my mind, that the founding fathers of the United States and Chairman Mao had one thing in common: they all realized that guns are important political instruments. Their similarities, however, ended there:Chairman Mao wrote: ‘Political power grows out of barrel of a gun’, and he dictated: ‘The party shall command the gun’. James Madison and his compatriots, however, believing that the power of the state is derived from the consent of the governed, ratified that ‘the right to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed’.

Gang we need to work on creating an international right like there is an international left.
Locke needs to go Viral and we on the right must divorce our defense of Locke from our praise of America.

I like the part where he pointed out that the Chinese constitution promises people the same things that our constitution does. The audience laughs because they know even though those rights are promised, they don't actually exist in reality.
That's the main point of this. If you can't defend them, your rights are meaningless. They're not worth the paper they're written on.

Ok, the left is now recycling this as a form of argumentation against the 2nd Amendment:
In District of Columbia v. Heller, issued in 2008, Scalia and the court made it clear for the first time that the Second Amendment “protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia.” But in that same opinion, Scalia brushed aside claims that the Second Amendment guarantees citizens the means to armed revolution. He concluded that technology has rendered that part of the amendment an archaic artifact, because “a militia, to be as effective as militias in the 18th century, would require sophisticated arms that are highly unusual in society at large” and that “no amount of small arms could be useful against modern-day bombers and tanks.”
===============
1. I didn't know Scalia was a general or war historian
2. In 1776 the British Army was the most technologically advanced, well trained, and feared fighting force in the world
3. US "bombers and tanks" didn't do so swell right of the bat in Anbar province.
4. This presumes someone is going to order a "bomber" to drop bombs on a city or town and someone in the military is going to actually do this.
5. IN 1993, a couple hundred Somali's shot down 2 helicopters and held off the Delta Force, Navy Seals, Pakistani tanks and Malaysian Condor armoured personnel carriers for 18 hours, what do you think 5 million Americans, including a few state national guard units are capable of?
This type of thinking by Scalia is completely non-sensical and flies in the face of world history.
Posted by: Jay at January 22, 2013 08:28 AM (3LaGb)
This is further proof that America is an anomaly: history is littered with the bodies of the innocent. We alone dared to counter this history with the strength of the individual and put government in its proper place as servants of the people and the defender of God-given rights.
The idea of freedom is always under assault. Today, it is under siege from those who have stolen the country and betrayed their oath. Division is their tool, envy is their mantra and power is their goal. Those who desire power do not desire freedom for others.
Those who desire freedom must, of needs, rise up to counter those who wish to enslave us. We cannot rest. Ours is a constant fight.

Anyone whose "civil war" battle plan includes lock-step obedience to unconstitutional orders is clearly living in an even greater fantasy land than they accuse their opponents of inhabiting. And what are you going to be doing while all this fighting is going on? Blogging from Starbucks? You really think that young men and women who support gun rights are going to do your dirty work for you?
Today's Left is like the French aristocracy of the Revolutionary period, only somehow even LESS grounded in reality.

BRILLIANT.
If you hate the left for no other reason, hate them for this: that they can be confronted with the direct testimony of people who have lived and suffered under tyranny, but would still rather call those people liars and fools than re-examine their own naive assumptions.

Heck, when NYC or DC gets hit with a terrorist nuke (you know it's coming at some point), liberalism will collapse from the weight of the loss of so many of its propagandists, while the rest of the country will soldier on.

Throughout history, the hard Left have shown themselves perfectly capable of simply starving out the expanses when it suits their purposes. Ask the Ukrainian kulaks. Ask the Chinese villagers under Mao.
I've suggested before that in a truly serious financial crisis, all efforts of the federal government are going to focus on diverting resources out of rural areas and into cities. What's left of the supply chains for fuel and food are going to be militarily confiscated and prioritized for urbanites.
Posted by: torquewrench at January 22, 2013 08:39 AM (gqT4g)
I don't get the nuke thing. One patriot skipper of a single missile boat and that arument is moot. Do you really want to launch if you lose all the big NE cities plus one for San Fran? Or a patriot xo, or just the crew deciding they want a different outcome.
