— Gabriel Malor Happy Friday.
The text of the Toomey-Manchin amendment is finally available. It does not contain the provision that Erick Erickson warned of. The NRA's characterization of it, though, was completely accurate.
"Republicans are passing around the popcorn." Yes. Yes we are.
The Obama Administration gave four more F-16s to the Muslim Brotherhood.
The actor suing IMDb for revealing her age lost her lawsuit. She's also presumably been made aware of the Streisand Effect.

Then they should pass it with a lot of Republican support to take the issue off the table!!

The most likely removal mechanism for an incumbent Senator is to carry him out in a box. However, as long as he is there it would take a very special event to remove him as speaker.

Congress passed, and the President signed, H.R. 2640 (110th): NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007
Per that legislation:
(3) APPLICATION TO PERSONS WHO HAVE BEEN ADJUDICATED AS A MENTAL DEFECTIVE OR COMMITTED TO A MENTAL INSTITUTION- The State shall make available to the Attorney General, for use by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, the name and other relevant identifying information of persons adjudicated as a mental defective or those committed to mental institutions to assist the Attorney General in enforcing section 922(g)(4) of title 18, United States Code.
Why doesn't someone ask one of these Senators why that law allegedly didn't work?

I do not think that provision was part of any "compromise bill" because there's simply no way that something as insanely insane as doctors being able to put you on a gun-ban list without your knowledge and without any process to challenge it was a "compromise." A provision that did what Erickson claimed this one would is beyond the Democrats' wildest dreams. No doubt they'd love it. There's no way it'd fit in with the claims to "compromise.""

Talking to either of the Koreas about this issue is a stupendous waste of time. If we had a real President he would summon the Chinese Ambassador to the White House and present him with a detailed study of what the economic. political, social, and environmental impact that a completely nuked flat and glowing North Korea would have on China. He would then tell the Ambassador "This WILL happen if you do not keep your crazy lapdog on a short leash- now get out of my office!"

Miss Marple, of course it's understandable to believe the worst of Obama, and to believe Republicans in Washington can and will capitulate on important things, because they often do.
This however, looked too much like a "let's pass something so we can say we did" type of thing. I know you understand politics very well, and that's what this was/is. The politics of optics.
Again though, it would be nice if there were MORE Republicans in Washington who could articulate something resembling a defense of our 2nd Amendment rights, but there aren't. Some of them are still too scared, I believe, to be branded as the people who want more dead 6 year olds.

I have no faith in these people, and I am sure they do what they do for their own benefit first, and if it happens to be the right thing, that's often an accident.
I don't believe that is a flaw in the system, however. I think that IS the system. We have a job to do as well, which is to hold their feet to the fire and MAKE them do the right thing, if we can.

I actually put this exact question to my radically anti-gun father. His response: "Obama's children are more likely to be targeted."
"But the odds that my own children are targeted is greater than zero," said I.
"Yes," he agreed, "but the odds that the President's children are targeted is exponentially greater, and therefore they need more protection."

It shall be unlawful for any person other than a licensed dealer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed importer to complete the transfer of a firearm to any other person who is not licensed under this chapter, if such transfer occurs-
“(A) at a gun show or event, on the curtilage thereof; or

And so what if sometimes the truth actually lies part way between? So is the standard that WE have to be 100% right all the time immediately; them, never, no accountability required.
Another trend I notice is a site like Breitbart is constantly criticized for headlines used to catch eyeballs - isn't that what we're supposed to be doing? Yet, BuzzFeed is all cool and stuff and we're not allowed to criticize anyone who goes there to trash conservatives or otherwise.
I understand we want to accurate but mistakes get made. I just don't get the sneering and need to paint conservatives as crazy to diminish us. The left publishes malicious lies on purposes. If we're on the same side, why not direct our efforts against the enemy?

Our coin in trade for converting others to our cause is Truth. There is nothing wrong with picking up a rumor and saying, "This is a rumor which was leaked to me, may or may not be true."
When it is presented as FACT then we have a problem, because in the unfair media world in which we live, we will be painted as nutburgers who make stuff up because we hate Obama.
So an error like Erickson made (which, given his past history, was perhaps done to draw eyeballs to his site and also to make himself look like an insider with great sources) is very damaging.
The truth in this case does NOT lie somewhere in between. Either the doctor provision was in the bill, or it was not. It was not. The end.
Meanwhile, due to the false claim which we wasted time on, no one is really discussing the provision for requiring background checks for other types of sales, which is not a small thing.
And now it is Friday, which means that we go into the weekend having wasted a news cycle on a falsehood.
I hope you understand why I am upset about this. I have said this before: the conservative movement is too often yanked around by people who have their own ego and financial interests as their primary motivation, rather than that of the country. I can provide many, many examples of this if you like.

Backstory is, Mrs VIA has been terrified of guns her entire life.
Three weeks ago she picked up a .22 revolver, for the first time ever.
Mrs VIA and I went to the range yesterday during "Ladies Day"
She moved up to a HK 9mm, did 35 rounds, and loved it.
Excellent grouping, with about six in the "X", and nothing outside of main body mass.
On the way home, I realized that she and I have never gone over the concept of sight picture.
We have only focused on basic safety, (Don't turn and point gun at VIA while asking question) proper grip, pull the trigger, and see if the recoil is manageable.
Her explanation is that she just points it where she wants the bullet to go, and there it goes.
She signs up for the Basic Handgun course next week.

Congratulations to you as well for overcoming your past experiences.
From Mrs VIA, I can understand what it takes to take that first step that seems so easy for many people. It's huge, scary, and can define you for many years.
One of the gunsmiths up there is a kindly old gentleman. Soft spoken, never pushy. He came out to the lanes the first time we were there, and worked with her for just a few minutes while she mentally worked her way up to the edge of the mental diving board where the trigger pull was.
I encourage any of the 'Ettes that are in the same situation to try it.
You may love it.
You may hate it.
You may be indifferent to the entire experience.
But you will go through the rest of your life knowing for a fact that if needed, you could shoot a firearm.

Way O/T:
People who deserve to be smashed in the face by a functioning weed-whacker, dragged across rolls of concertina wire, bathed in alcohol, thrown down the stairs and trampled by bulls:
Healthy and physically-able people who take the elevator up or down a single floor.

Japan. The NORKs are saying the first target would be Japan.

While it was a fine specimen, Nevergiveup's red head did have a magnificent example, so I think she gets the nod.

Has something being classified EVER stopped the media or a Congressman from running their mouths?

I will state for the record,
I have had guns pointed at me with the intent to shoot on no less than 3 occasions during my life. Once by a police officer who mistook me for a burgler, once by a homeowner who mistook me for a vandal, and once by a
"Yut" in Oakland who was robbing me at gun-point for the money I had just pulled out of an A.T.M....very bad situational awareness on my part...so what is the point?
I carry....every day......cause bad things happen and you have to be ready to stop the "Bad Thing" 1st! You can't call 911 with a bullet in you head,
and P.D will never be there in time....
I carry!

I tried tracking you down in a couple of threads, but we kept missing each other.
I really can't say. Are there any other non-give-away details we could swap to see if we work down the hall from each other?

Would you like to see the photos of yourself and those three underage tranny hookers you picked up on the lido deck?
Have you checked that scar where your kidney used to be?

Actually the USC and Bill of Rights are radical documents even today. The idea that individudal liberty is acknowledged as G-d given and my consent is required before sumbitting to elelcted body of men to govern.
Totalitarians (aka democrats) hate those documents for a reason.

The sun is up, I pull the blackout (soon to be another racist phrase) shades down to give my bedroom a hint of night-time with a desire of rest...perchance to dream.....and another shift of E.R done...
snore and much more..........

So what's the difference.
Toomey will still fry.
He knows it too. That's what's so interesting. Why did he do it? He knows this will likely lose re election. (unfortunately it looks like to a Democrat)
It seems a lot of what you would think are smart people look like they're being strong armed into taking positions contrary to their own beliefs and best interest.
It's almost as if they're being COERCED.

Now,
since the early warnings posts sans 2008.....
a Wake-Up?
Shit on a shingle....and a bitter meal it is.....this is what we get
THIS is what we deserve....for we left it to mere pathetic men we put in office...who now show their soft cocks and limp spines and spew their sparkle white teeth to the cameras and then flee into their little bubble holes. Dickless men.....we are the party of "DICKLESS MEN!"
