— andy As an update to yesterday's post on the gun experts at the Chicago Tribune, they've issued a correction of sorts.
It's pretty funny itself. Take this, for instance:
In our description of the flash suppressor placed at the end of the gun’s muzzle, we said the device breaks up the explosion that results from firing the gun. We also said that “some find the suppressor controversial as it could also make the flash from a shot less visible, allowing a shooter to conceal his position.” One very knowledgeable and articulate reader took issue with that statement, as concealment is not the suppressor’s primary function — it’s a safety device to prevent fires. We never said it was the suppressor’s primary function, only that it conceivably could make a shooter more difficult to locate, which is why it’s controversial.
No. No. No!
The reason flash suppressors are "controversial" goes back to the definitional problem of "assault rifle" vs. any old semi-auto rifle and the original assault weapons ban.
According to the Dems, this is an assault rifle:
... and this isn't:

Both are centerfire, semi-auto rifles with detachable box magazines, but only one of them looks scary to liberals.
So in the original assault weapons ban, the Dems threw in a laundry list of cosmetic features that distinguished an "assault rifle" ... pistol grips, bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, etc. Any 2 of them, and you had an "assault rifle".
That's it. That's the source of the supposed controversy about flash suppressors. But bayonet lugs kill dozens every week. Google it!

And thatÂ’s it for Thursday, January 24, 2013. Not much out there today either. In the past several days the media has gushed over ObamaÂ’s balls, today they switched to CankleÂ’s incredibly bad display of lies and crap. But we have already beat the crap out of that yesterday.
PS On the weather front they had been predicting a chance of snow here for tomorrow morning. Now two of the weather channels are calling for "ice pellets/frozen mix" and two have changed it to rain in the afternoon.

Implement the "ugly gun" ban this year. AFter a suitable period start a new "controversy" over the "sporting weapons" with semi-auto. Let that ride for a while and then go after bolt-action weapons.
Soon you will have all of them. This is why the NRA fights EVERY one of their grabs tooth and nail and we should support them in that. When someone says "reasonable compromise" do NOT believe it for a minute.

In puppah science related news:
Diet Shaped Dog Domestication
Dogs had four to 30 copies of the gene for amylase, a protein that starts the breakdown of starch in the intestine. Wolves have only two copies, one on each chromosome. As a result, that gene was 28-fold more active in dogs, the researchers found. More copies means more protein, and test-tube studies indicate that dogs should be fivefold better than wolves at digesting starch, the chief nutrient in agricultural grains such as wheat and rice. The number of copies of this gene also varies in people: Those eating high carbohydrate diets -- such as the Japanese and European Americans -- have more copies than people with starch-poor diets, such as the Mbuti in Africa. "We have adapted in a very similar way to the dramatic changes that happened when agriculture was developed," Axelsson says.

Has anyone seen Zero Dark Thirty?
Originally, I was not going to see this film.. mostly because the producers were given unparalleled access by the Obama admin to info that should have been deemed sensitive.
But now, the libtards are apoplectic over the movie "condoning torture".. to the point that idiots like Ed Asner and Martin Sheen are calling for the film to be ignored for Oscars.
So, now it would please me to see the film do well, especially on Oscar night!
But that gets back to my question.. is it any good as a film?
BTW - the book "No Easy Day" by the Special Ops guy who was actually there is a fine book and a gripping account of that night.

Hello again, ‘rons and’ ronettes. And thanks for the morning briefing, Andy and Vic.
Over the last few days, IÂ’ve told you about the Sunset Boulevard and Addams Family houses. This morning, after youÂ’ve grabbed that second hot cup of coffee, settle down for a moment while I pass on the tale of another famous Tinseltown building:
If you're a fan of classic Hollywood or are familiar with the WWII home front, it's likely you've heard of the Hollywood Canteen. Located in a former livery stable at 1451 Cahuenga Boulevard (where a parking garage now squats), it was the brainchild of actor John Garfield, who noted that the majority of servicemen who were fighting in the Pacific theater came through Los Angeles and were, like all star-struck tourists, eager for a glimpse of Hollywood before shipping off to war. Gilbert thought that the Canteen would be a place for soldiers to have a free meal while they met and were entertained by the townÂ’s biggest stars.
I tend to feel that, despite the claims that movies are subversive, “Hollywood” has always been, in its way, a conservative town, giving audiences what it thinks they want (actors and producers and directors, as people however, are a different story). In 1942, what the country wanted was assurance that we were all on the same team, pulling together to kick Hitler and Mussolini and Tojo's asses and that, despite their fame and beauty and money, Hollywood stars were just the same regular, patriotic, all-American folks as Uncle Sam's boys.
Garfield got the strong-willed Bette Davis to be president of the Canteen. She was the one who found the location, and she was the one who, by force of personality, strong-armed nearly everyone who was anyone to do their turn. Marlene Dietrich danced with the GIs, washed dishes and served at the snack bar. Fred MacMurray and Basil Rathbone were among an army of busboys, and Spencer Tracy signed autographs in between serving up hot cups of joe at the counter. Abbott and Costello, Edgar Bergen, Red Skelton, Kay Kyser and Eddie Cantor were among the entertainers who sang, performed and played their hearts out every night, and if you wanted to send one last letter home before shipping out, secretaries from all the major studios were on hand to take dictation.
Meltingly beautiful stars such as Olivia de Havilland, Greer Garson and Carole Landis were only a few of the leading ladies who joined the over 3,000 "hostesses" who made sure the boys in khaki (and white, and blue and green) wanted for nothing. Officially, none were allowed to give their last names, addresses or phone numbers to the soliders, nor were they allowed to date them. . .but if you happened to be just the kind of square-jawed, clear eyed, manly man that appealed to, say, Bette Davis (to pick the most notorious), the odds were pretty good that you'd end the night luxuriating in the bed of a movie queen.
There was happiness at the Canteen - while washing dishes, Hedy Lamarr met her future husband, actor John Loder, as he dried them. But there was sadness too, and not just in the knowledge that so many of these young men would never come home again. . .
The luscious Gene Tierney was a hostess there; twenty-two and pregnant, she was exposed to German measles, a disease which rendered her newborn daughter hopelessly brain-damaged. Years later, at an LA party, Tierney was asked by a fellow guest if she had caught measles after the two had met at the Canteen. When a puzzled Tierney (who, after her child's birth, spiraled into a deep depression and had attempted suicide on multiple occasions) revealed that she had, the woman went on to explain that at the time, she had been stationed at a nearby Marine Corps camp that had been swept by an epidemic of measles, but she had deliberately broken quarantine so she could go to the Canteen and meet her favorite star: Gene Tierney.
On November 22, 1945, the Canteen closed. It had, in the words of writer David Wallace, "been open every day for three years, one month and twenty-eight days. In that time, it fed and entertained nearly four million servicemen, giving out nearly three million packs of cigarettes, six million pieces of cake, 125,000 gallons of milk and nine million cups of coffee."
Hope you all have a wonderful day. And by the way, have you read my movie book, The DirectorÂ’s Cut: A Theda Bara Mystery? ItÂ’s available on Kindle, at the Amazon and Barnes and Noble websites or through your local bookstore. Help a fellow Moron out, wonÂ’t you?

And then maybe spend a half hour or so not getting blotto on the high priced booze and review them before they go in and pontificate sounding like the worthless fucking windbags they are. And Vic, I agree with you so far as the military (though, were TFG to actually declare war on some country, I guaran-damn-tee you Hollywood would turn into Patriot Town USA). My point was only that, for all the cries about movies mainstreaming torture porn, pedophilia and homosexuality, they are, at base, about giving an audience what it thinks they want. They thought people hated W as much as they did, so we had the slew of anti-war movies, for example.
Neal Gabler's An Emipre Of Their Own: How The Jews Invented Hollywood describes this process re the early moguls like Mayer, the Warners, Zukor and Cohn.

I also think credit should be given to Rand Paul, who got to the heart of it by pointing out that she was not doing her job. And he did it forcefully.
McCain did tell her that her answers weren't acceptable, but he wasn't very good at sounding righteously indignant.
And again I ask, as I have for the last few months, WHERE ARE THE SURVIVORS? Why don't we have their testimony?
Similarly, where are the survivors of the Algeria massacre? They were (according to NPR ) airlifted out by US military. ANyone interviewing them? Our crack media, for example?
By the way, I was listening to Hannity because the station which carries Beck and Dennis Miller got bought by CBS and converted to sports talk.
I hope those RNC people finally get their heads out of their rears and realize we are in a really serious war with the left. We are being outflanked while they argue which faction gets to collect donations.

My source doesn't say. From what I understand, Tierney's retarded daughter was a well-kept secret. I think poor Gene was just too flabbergasted at the admission from a self-confessed fan to react. Transformers is a pro-military/pro-American movie. YMMV on whether or not one considers it a good movie.
Hell, even Jon Voight's Rumsfeldian type SecDef was portrayed in a positive light.

We NEVER got a good war movie out of the first Gulf War. We NEVER got a decent movie out of Afghanistan, even though that was supposedly the "good war." Why didn't we ever get a movie about the Special Foprces guys who had to ride horses into battle?

Okay. You're crazy.
As others have said, the "assault rifles" (which aren't) "look" scary to moderates, while that Remington 10/22, or other rifle in their own closet doesn't.
Pointing out that they're functionally the same means that those moderates will at least stand with us to prevent making ALL semi-auto weapons illegal, and may even get them to realize that AR-15 or M-4 isn't nearly as scary as it looks.
And, frankly, no assault rifle "looks" as scary as a tactical shotgun, and most of those are pump-action.

Actually, I liked how the government was portrayed in all 3 of the Transformers movies. The first one came out while Bush was president (or was being made then, I can't remember the exact timing), and the Feds were a very stylized version of the Bush Administration.
Revenge of the Fallen (easily the weakest of the three) and Dark of the Moon were both TFG Admin movies, and the appeasement/surrender-monkey aspect was exactly what one would expect from TFG. The only problem w/ the portrayal in DotM was that the high-muckity-muck government type was a girl, and we know the SCOAMT would never hire a girl for anything if he didn't have to.

Also, that Accountability Review Board is run by one of her groupies, so there was never any danger that she was going to be held accountable by that group. I got that information from Richard Grenell on Twitter, which I recommend you all follow. @RichardGrenell.
He's the guy who withdrew from the Romney campaign because he is gay and the left were making him a big issue. He knows the State Department like the back of his hand and he had all sorts of information. For example, when a cable comes in from an ambassador, there is a LOG of who all reads it. That is why Hillary couldn't lie about having read the cable, but the interesting thing we do not know is who DID read the cable.

Ergh. Don't even get me started on Disney. That company has embraced perversion as if their lives depended on it. If it weren't for the theme parks and Pixar, they'd be dead in the water. For years, the rumor around Hollywood (and especially after The Lost Boys) was that Spielberg was a pedophile; I've heard quite a number of stories about practicing peds in high positions in the Magic Kingdom.

Okay, that's horrible, and we obviously have an epidemic on our hands- one we need to do something about.
But (related) here in TX, there was apparently some teacher who has been arrested and indicted (don't remember the specific charge- indecency w/a minor, maybe?) for making out with his 16 y/o (female) student. I heard the story this morning, and had a thought, I figured I'd air it here.
We know that this guy will get the book thrown at him- he's already "suspended w/o pay" and will likely be fired long before any verdict comes back. But what if the roles were reversed? Would a female teacher be on unpaid leave, or paid leave, if she'd been making out with her male student? Would she get fired at all? Experience says the answer to both of those questions is "no."
And I wondered- isn't that sexist? Isn't it like saying that those women are just so weak they had no possible way to resist the uber-manliness of their pubescent charges? While the men, of course, are much stronger, and should control themselves.
Am I completely wrong here?

Not "RIFLE". Assault Rifle or Battle Rifle is already well-defined: a select-fire rifle capable of full automatic fire - a "machine gun". That definition needs no other qualifications.
The AWB proponents acknowledge, privately, that ASSAULT RIFLES are already strictly controlled by the NFA. Their goal to remove all other firearms from the hands of citizens focuses on Assault WEAPONs (the 'W' in AWB), which is a nonsense term deliberately used to confuse the uninformed regarding whether or not such weapons only belong in the hands of "authorities" (military, LE, etc.).
If we can't get these terms straight, we may as well just give up on correcting the media, let alone educating the general public regarding the nature of this manufactured controversy.

Yes and no. I don't know of any real scandals attached to him. I do know of rumors of pedophilia, but the sources are notorious for scandal-mongering out of whole cloth, so I tend to dismiss them. He was very egotistical - the first thing animators at the studio were told was that if they wanted to see their names on the screen instead of Walt's, they belonged somewhere else - virulently anti-union and prone to fits of anger. So not a total shithead, but not the first guy you'd want to have a beer with, either.

Three Kingdoms 2010 Ep 1 2/4
In this episode one of Dong Zhuo's adminstrative experts Wang Yun fakes a birthday party to try to recruit allies in a plot to kill the Prime Minister. Cao Cao rather smugly volunteers to do the deed and fails. Hilarity ensues.
Cao Cao is the designated villain of the series. A gifted adminstrator and military leader, he believes in merit based advancement and sees himself as a man of destiny.

Thanks for that feedback. I really want to believe Walt was a good guy and that the guys that want to tarnish him are the same fuckheads that want to destroy the Boys Scouts. The funniest story I've heard about Walt (which I'm sure you've heard too) was five years after he died he had all his top men show up in a theater with designated seats. A movie came on of him pointedly looking at each of them and giving them directions for the future as if he knew what they'd recently done. I found that creepily hilarious.

I don't consider Transformers to be a movie about the "military". I do however, include Battle of Los Angeles and consider that one in the few "pros".
True enough. It definitely has an overall pro-America/pro-military theme though, which in 2007 was not exactly common.

More than you know, basically I suspect the long game for the mules is the use of our kids to gain them enough time to import enough new voters to destroy the US constitution and our way of life. The more of our rights they can take away pre-emptively the more controllable the newcomers will be. They are buying the destruction of liberty with the Republic's coffers and casual slinging of "racist."
If the United States will not control its borders and stop the democrats from importing impoverished third worlders "because" the Republic as constituted has less than 15-20 years left.
It seems we Europeans ancestried people are the only people on earth not allowed to have a homeland.

It is protocol to thank a person for appearing. You can tell how much heat a person is under if the Congresscritters omit protocol if they are old school. The democrats of course are uncouth sons of bitches and the public doesn't know enough, or care enough that they can't be bothered to learn the forms, strictures, and traditions of our system of government.
Society has moved on, we have a generation coming up that has not been taught to revere our nation for its promise nor value the bounty handed down by our forebears at BEST, and many are now actively being taught that our nation is irredeemably flawed at its heart and unworthy of any respect at worst.
If the democrats are not using that Constitution or our history I'd like to borrow both, as much of the population as i can convince that venerates it to follow me and I'd like to "buy" some land off the "United States" and get to work maintaining freedom in a new nation here on some of this soil.
They've tilted the balance so hard that unless we get school choice through and can exert coercive force through commerce on the bastards to teach what we want the bill of rights is doomed.

Pretty much, Cao Cao ran his economy about 5 times more efficiently than ANY of the other warlords. He kept his military forces under extremely harsh discipline not to molest the peasants' economic lives. Was he ambitious? Yup but he understood the Han had shot its wad.
Liu bei "humble man of the people" ran three regions economies into the ground and betrayed 3 bosses or allies depending on your POV. Stole the region he wound up making his own from another Imperial Cousin and felt he was entitled to rule "well uh because." I praticularly like that he spiked his son like a fottball to browbeat Zhao Yun one of his best generals for trying to save Liu bei's family.

“The semi-automatic weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons — anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun — can only increase that chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”

Ahhh... But Dems ALWAYS judge on the color of skin... not content of character.... or in this case, how it looks, not what it does...
Its all about their 'perceptions'... just as in their Dividing people by Race...

"According to the Dems, this is an assault rifle"
No. The artificially concocted Democrat term is "assault weapon." "Assault rifle" is a military term of art that refers specifically to a sub-caliber or pistol-caliber MACHINE GUN.
Dems wanted to blur the distinction between these military small arms (themselves the core subject of protected 2nd Amendment rights) and similar looking rifles that are semi-auto only so they called the semi-autos "assault weapons," knowing most people wouldn't know the difference. The effectiveness of this ploy is confirmed by this post, even as it tries to expose the ploy. Doh.
