Day 15.

Leon Panetta was slightly, obliquely critical of President Obama's lack of leadership skills at a breakfast with reporters that was sponsored by the Wall Street Journal. So several reporters objected:

To some extent, the reporters in the room seemed more forgiving of the circumstances in which the president finds himself. Jackie Calmes of the New York Times noted that the Panetta-envisioned budget deal was illusory because Republicans refuse to consider new tax revenue. Doyle McManus of the Los Angeles Times observed that the White House would argue that its previous efforts at schmoozing and deal-making had fizzled.

Republicans in Congress aren't exactly jumping for joy at the Senate deal to end the shutdown and raise the debt ceiling. Senate GOP will gather at 11am to hear the full details.

Ed Morrissey writes in his column for The Week that the failed Obamacare exchange website is only the tip of the iceberg. Actually, Andy talked about that in this week's podcast too: the exchange failures are part of the process of getting health coverage; Obamacare is also failing substantively on getting affordable health coverage to people.

And, for a bit of amusement, check out the five different television adaptations of the Wizard of Oz currently in development. "Everyone is on really good drugs. That is the lesson here."

4 The hype on this budget crap is getting over the top.

Congress is racing to meet a Thursday deadline to avoid a first-ever default on U.S. government debt after the top two Senate leaders scrambled late Monday to iron out the specifics of an emerging budget proposal aimed at ending the partial government shutdown and lifting the debt ceiling after a string of prior plans fizzled.

I throw the bullshit flag on that pack of lies.  They do not have to default on debt.  There is still tax money coming in.  All they have to do is quit spending more than is coming in.

68 DUI charges depend highly on the physical wording of the State law. If it says "operating a vehicle" then if they pop you for sitting in a car while drunk and the car is not running then it is hard to make that charge stick.

76 osted by: CrotchetyOldJarhead at October 15, 2013 07:10 AM (P/47D) Crotechty Old Jarhead, HeÂ’s lived in Maine for almost 8 years. I got a call on March 30 from the hospital that he was there but couldnÂ’t admit himself for treatment. It was 5:41 am and of course I admitted him. The doctor called a few hours later and said itÂ’s a urinary tract infection. I didnÂ’t ask why they put him on a ventilator. I have no idea why I didnÂ’t ask. The next day his fever was so high they were putting ice on him. Then he had bacterial pneumonia, strep bacteria, the next day it was in his blood. It was always they were going to take him off ventilator the next day. After a week I called and told nurse that weÂ’re Catholic and I want him to have last rites. She marked his chart that I wanted to speak with doctor. Next morning I called and they had chart marked and put doctor on. He said that he had 50/50 odds of living. They took him off ventilator after 10 days or so and he couldnÂ’t move. It took 8 days before they did full body MRI and found strep infections was in cervical spine, neck. He had to have surgery to get infection out. HeÂ’s been paralyzed since he woke up from being on the ventilator. Surgeon said it would take several weeks to tell neurological skills and itÂ’s now been six months. HeÂ’s been in rehab, or hospital since then. Paul will go a week or two until I get a call form the rehab that they are sending him to hospital because he has very high fever. Last time it was 104.5 and he had pneumonia again. He keeps getting it. IÂ’m trying to have him transferred to MA but itÂ’s hard because he has Maine Care and not MA Health, theyÂ’ve applied for it. I want him where I had my mother. I had to call and beg admission director last week to take him. Bottom line is that neither of us expect him to live. He thinks heÂ’s going to get pneumonia and fever will get so high heÂ’ll go into a coma. Thank you all for prayers. Carol

Good Morning Morons. Today is Tuesday, October 15, 2013. On this day in 1951 I Love Lucy premiered. It is still playing on some channels where viewers have not been sufficiently tortured.

...................................

When my oldest who is now grown was 3 she loved that show. She would pretend she was Lucy and everywhere she went Fred, Ethel and Ricky had to go too. It would take forever to go anywhere as they all had to get in the car and get buckled up. Same with eating, we couldn't eat until they all were sitting down. I can't count how many times she would yell "mom, you just sat on Fred!" "Mom go back, we forgot Ethel". Luckily the phase only lasted a few months.

86 Here is an example of what I was talking about.  This is for SC

It is unlawful for a person to drive a motor vehicle within this State while his alcohol concentration is eight one-hundredths of one percent or more. A person who violates the provisions of this section is guilty of the offense of driving with an unlawful alcohol concentration and, upon conviction, entry of a plea of guilty or of nolo contendere, or forfeiture of bail must be punished as follows:

Note here I guess that race car driver could be charged here because it says drive in the State but if he was sitting in the back seat with the car off he could not be convicted (if he had a good lawyer)

108 Great Hymns of the faith-"Leave It There" by Charles Tindley: A rendition by a great old Gospel qroup-The Statesmen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59ZsJ0WYjEc If the world from you withhold of its silver and its gold, And you have to get along with meager fare, Just remember, in His Word, how He feeds the little bird;Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. Refrain Leave it there, leave it there, Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. If you trust and never doubt, He will surely bring you out. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. If your body suffers pain and your health you canÂ’t regain, And your soul is almost sinking in despair, Jesus knows the pain you feel, He can save and He can heal; Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. Refrain When your enemies assail and your heart begins to fail, DonÂ’t forget that God in Heaven answers prayer; He will make a way for you and will lead you safely through. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there. Refrain When your youthful days are gone and old age is stealing on, And your body bends beneath the weight of care; He will never leave you then, HeÂ’ll go with you to the end. Take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

He campaigns as a moderate, but... well, you know the rest.

I would assume he would have aspirations for higher office, meaning national office, if the D party were to ever allow white males to make a run again.  He shoots down anything that the conservative legislature sends his way, and he's had  some success straddling the fences, but make no mistake.  He's a modern Democrat, which means he's a socialist, bordering on being a communist  (or national socialist, depending on one's wing of the  D  party).

Why is it so hard for Boehner to get up in front of a podium and read the quote from President Disaster when he was a senator in 2006?  Shove his words right down his throat?  It would be a spectacular move...which is why it will never happen.  John Boehner is probably very easy to beat in chess, as is most every R.

156 I am sorry. BB about your suffering. I can empathize. The goal of the Christian life,. IMO, to give glory to God to to mold us into the image of Christ. It is about joy and suffering-not one leading to the other. ie, no pain, no gain- which is kind of shallow but about them being linked. That iswhy Paul says, "In everything give thanks." John Wesley has what I think is a quite courageous prayer-a prayer I don't want to make sometimes: I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

If I elected to go with the standard PPO option that I used to have it would cost nearly $700 per month. So thank you Obama and your asshole FSA voters. My costs more than doubled and coverage went down.

You know how gay people cut off by their families of origin choose their own groups of friends and refer to themselves as "family" (at least, they used to before they all started getting married and cutting off their single friends like straight married people do, lol)?  It's not a bad idea, really.  I've had more than a few holiday dinners at Cracker Barrel or sports bars or with groups of cow-orkers too far from their parents' home, and I've enjoyed them far more than listening to my pinko shitbird brother shit all over our father's life's work.   And the turkey wasn't cooked bone-dry (basting is bad because fat, or something).

Hell, he's (probably) hoping there aren't any sickly Rats like Sheets Byrd and Swimmer Kennedy that need to be wheeled in on their gurneys so Dingy can do whatever the fuck he wants.

In fact, it's more likely the Rats get to 61 come January 2015 than the Pubbies getting to 51. I would say that the Rats getting to 67 is more likely than a Pubbie majority, but they'd have to knock off 13 of the 14 12 of the 14 Pubbies up for either normal or special re-election after Absentee Booker frauds his way to another win.

211 Labor unions are poised to score the delay of an ObamaCare tax in the bipartisan budget deal emerging in the Senate. The bargain under negotiation would make small adjustments to the healthcare law, including delaying the law's reinsurance fee for one year. The three-year tax is meant to generate revenue that will stabilize premiums on the individual market as sick patients enter the risk pool. The tax applies to all group health plans, but unions argue it will raise their healthcare costs while providing them no benefit. The reinsurance tax figured prominently in discussions at a recent AFL-CIO convention, where workers passed a resolution demanding changes to ObamaCare. The White House recently denied labor's top priority on ObamaCare, ruling that union health plans are not eligible for the new subsidies because they are already helped by the tax code. Democrats could be pushing to delay the reinsurance fee for one year as an olive branch after that apparent slight, though it could also create trouble for insurers on the marketplaces. Great fuckin compromise? Fuck them all

Obamacare is the biggest swindle, the greatest transfer of wealth the country will probably ever see.  It's thievery on such a grand scale that it's hard to imagine why we're not storming the gates.  Every responsible American is going to pay, and pay big to subsidize the very animals that stuffed their EBT carts full of stolen goods at the LA Walmart.  That's where the money will go, in large part.  To buy insurance for these rotten parasites.  It's beyond abhorrent.  All of it.

Any woman who would sabotage her own garden out of spite is a force to be reckoned with like a keg of nitroglycerine and gross of claymores.  Those squirrels better tread lightly.

233 Regarding stores staying open on Thanksgiving: as I tell my husband, things will soon be corrected on that end. The entitlement government will determine that it isn't "fair" that some people should have to work on Thanksgiving (like they care about a Christian holiday) and will force the businesses to stay closed. All free will will eventually be taken from us. Especially capitalist businesses that wish only to make an evil profit.

240 the White House would argue that its previous efforts at schmoozing and deal-making had fizzled

Uh, which efforts were those, exactly?  The ones where Obama said he wouldn't negotiate?  The ones where he got what he wanted, but then wanted more and rejected the deal?

And here I thought "schmoozing" had a way different definition.  Learn something new every day I guess!

241 The entitlement government will determine that it isn't "fair" that some people should have to work on Thanksgiving (like they care about a Christian holiday) and will force the businesses to stay closed.

Their own housekeepers and drivers will still be on duty, of course.

I've noticed it's not the retail employees whining about stores opening on Thanksgiving--they seem to like the idea of getting time-and-a-half on a low-traffic day--it's upper-class bleeding hearts who think it's terrible that people who don't type for a living might choose to skip a football game to get a little extra in their Nov paycheck.  (Now, when that time-and-a-half puts them over the limit for SCOAMFcare subsidies....)
