— Gabriel Malor Happy Monday.
The Obamacare website went down yesterday due to some kind of network failure that was immediately blamed on a contractor.
What most of ya'll know about the health insurance "death spiral" that the President either doesn't know or doesn't want to mention yet.
Speaking of things the President doesn't know, there's a report that Obama was unaware that the NSA was targeting foreign leaders like German Chancelor Angela Merkel. There's also a report that Obama was aware of the spying, but let's be honest: given this Administrations SOP, Obama didn't know, didn't want to know, and wouldn't be told about it until it was going to be in the papers. See also: every scandal of this White House.
The Atlantic has a piece: "One Chart That Explains Why McDonald's Killed the Dollar Menu." It's good, but not as good as our own John E.'s more succinct explanation:

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Only a quick one today, I'm afraid.
The actress Rosalind Russell,* best known for her Auntie Mame role, was once at a party where a well-known, very vain actress was holding court. Looking pointedly at Russell, she sighed, "I dread to think of turning forty."
"Why?" Russell snapped back. "What happened then?"
Hope you all have a wonderful day.
*Russell once disappointed an autograph hound: "Rosalind Russell?" she cried. "I wanted the other Russell - you know, the one with the -" and she held out her hands in the classic boobehs signal.

Morning everyone. First cup of coffee still steaming in my cup. I'm suffering from some odd visual problems this morning, and will beg off work. The usual excuse, "I can't see myself coming in to work today".
I know administrations like to shield the head honcho from his scandals, but Obama is taking this to a whole other level. How the one man in charge remains so utterly clueless about what is going on around him is staggering. The fact that anyone out there believes Obumbles is so completely ignorant of the many, many scandals that surround him is even more staggering.

For pity's sake, that's one of the few things the NSA has been doing about which I not only don't care but am willing to give it a cookie. That's the entire freaking point of the NSA, after all, to spy on foreigners. Yes, that includes foreign heads of state.
I do sort of believe that TFG didn't know the specifics, because, come on, that's the wink wink nudge nudge game that's played about this. More stories of CA idiots not liking their shit sandwich.
Like this intellectual giant:
Now that health insurance companies are releasing new costs, people like Vinson, a 60-year-old retired teacher, are realizing their premiums will make up the difference for other Americans.
“Of course, I want people to have health care,” Vinson told San Jose Mercury News. “I just didn’t realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally.”
I know there was a post the other day about how to deal with O-bot family members during the holidays as their God King's world collapses, but I would be hard-pressed to keep from screaming "Who the fuck did you THINK was going to pay, you mouth-breathing nickelfucker? Oh, let me guess - those eeeeeeeevill rich people like Mitt Romney, right? Oh, you were all for heath care when that reich-wing rich bastard was going to get hit in the shorts, but when you have to pick your own pocket, suddenly you scream? Well, fuck you - you voted for this, you called those of us who warned you 'racists,' so now suck it good and hard!"
I don't believe in a gentle prodding. You're stupid enough to vote Obama, then you get the consequences and I'm going to rub your nose in it until you get rug burns.

I'm not talking about this website. I'm talking about the fact that the right is losing to this bunch because they aren't reaching the LiVs. So we insult those people, instead of trying to find out how to reach them.
I would venture to guess that if you had a way of tracking who is on twitter, following politics, the numbers would be somewhere around 5-1 for the left.
So this type of snark, posting somebody's picture works great. If it's George Bush's picture. Or Sarah Palin's, or I suppose John Boehner's or Ted Cruz's.

Meh, the fix is in I think. Any shenanigans on Election Day aren't going to be vigorously pursued by the VA GOP. I agree it's odd, but then it's not like the VA GOP has been exactly stumping for Cuccinelli either. We even saw Bill Bolling come out in August or so and openly question Cuccinelli's chops to be Governor.
The Establishment wing got miffed that Cuccinelli didn't "wait his turn" and decided to, I think, sabotage the campaign in a passive-aggressive way.
I think had the VA GOP gotten behind this race in a big way, and with support from the national GOP apparatus to nationalize this race, things would be very different from where they are now.

Seems to me if inflation had been allowed to take its course naturally, the dollar menu would have been gone years ago.
And it also seems to me the other biggest contributor to the dollar menu lasting as long as it did is illegal immigration. Nearly every McD's in all of Chicagoland has a kitchen crew that is 100% Hispanic. The people in the front all speak Spanish now so they can give orders to the cooks in Spanish.

------------
Well, I think the GOP *had* been trying that. I give Mitch McConnell a lot of grief, but early on I was on board with his strategy to "put Democrats on record" in supporting Obamacare and all the other crap. Trouble is, that was first term and LIVs don't pay attention until/unless you force them to. Shame is arguably a pretty big motivator. No one likes to feel stupid, most of all stupid people (I'd argue that smart people better recognize when they're acting stupidly and therefore take no offense at being called stupid when it's warranted).
So I'd argue that 'what we're doing now' is trying to approach LIVs by treating them like rational decision makers. They aren't. They are making decisions based on what pop culture tells them. As health insurance gets cancelled and premiums increase on remaining plans, coupled with the inability of a website to work, LIVs are starting to look around and wonder what the eff is going on. They couldn't be bothered with the arguments that it *was* going to happen, so drive them onto the fair-weather bandwagon by saying its happening because stupid people weren't paying attention.
They won't admit they are stupid, and they will prove it by punishing the people who made them look stupid...the pols who screwed up their insurance.

I think it's nearly too late for that. We've tried snark -- hell, a lot of people are still doing that -- and we've tried reason, explanations, charts, whiteboards and all that stuff.
Hell, we've even tried Poppin' Fresh-style mild criticism, leavened with a heavy dose of fairness and concern for the feelings of the Prophets of Choom.
None of it has "accomplished" anything.
The only serious option will be to sweep aside the Boners, the Bitch McConnells, the Li'l Ricky Santorums, the T-Paws and similar eunuchs are are too heavily invested in the Game of Politics, and mount a balls-to-the-wall opposition to the forces that are destroying (maybe already have destroyed) a once-great country. Or put our hopes in a more "robust" (and therefore illegal and far more dangerous) course of action.

I'm really not too worried about the ability of the U.S. to turn that back on in a nanosecond if herd immunity shows any signs of flagging.

To be fair [heh] that actually was sort of the answer, at least in Illinois, where The Machine oversees and rules all. I guess the way I'm seeing it now is that government programs had their day throughout the 20th century but they've now run their course, reached their end limits. Big centralized everything is breaking down hard. But I'm not agreeing that conservatives have a better way at present, just arguing that the fundamentals have changed and nobody has a good answer as of yet.

Meanwhile at the same time we are STILL operating under the 2009 ALL Democrat spending budget with a $1T deficit dumping even more money into the economy with the fed buying those T-bills which causes even more inflation.

One small problem with this attitude (which smells a bit too much of the Kouch-bound Keyboard Kommando response):
While letting the LIVs suffer the consequences of their stupidity, Choom Boy and his co-conspirators will be shoving it up YOUR ass, too.
And ours, BTW.

Pretty sure most of them don't have a cottage industry in adaptive technology to retrofit truck bombs.

Thank you for that explanation of what's going on. I will admit that I haven't paid enough attention (read: any) to that situation to understand why it is that Cuccinelli hasn't been getting support from the VA GOP. Are there actual issues with him or is it all night of the long knives stuff?
---------
In a nutshell:
Bill Bolling was the Lt Gov under Tim Kaine. Bolling, a RINO, was set to run for VA Gov but in some back-room dealmaking agreed to run for Lt Gov again so Bob McDonnell could run for Gov. The thinking was that McDonnell would get his profile raised and be a possible running mate for the eventual GOP Presidential nominee. In return for Bolling stepping aside, McDonnell would agree to endorse Bolling in the 2013 governor's race.
Meanwhile, Ken Cuccinelli, then a state delegate, successfully won the statewide election to become Attorney General.
Fast forward to 2013. Bolling expects to get the nomination in a cakewalk, but Cuccinelli and his supporters force a convention vote instead of a statewide primary and Cuccinelli wins the Gov nomination. Bolling, and his Establishment wing people, get sour grapes and go home, withholding support and, in certain cases, actively going out to stump against Cuccinelli (McAuliffe's commercials feature another RINO endorcing McAuliffe). In addition, certain delegate races (most notably Tom Rust) are taking the tack that being a Republican is a bad thing and voting to enable Democrat policies and "work across the aisle" is the thing to do. Little coincidence that Bill Clinton stumping for McAuliffe this weekend was hitting those same notes.
Further, the VA GOP hasn't been supporting the Gov race. I get mailers, sometimes two a day, to support my RINO delegate, but not one thing for Cuccinelli. I've had volunteers keep knocking on my door telling me to go out and vote for the RINO, but not one word in support of Cuccinelli.
When you contrast this with, say, Scott Walker up in WI (where the national party successfully made it a national referendum against union overreach), you're confused as to why a GOP candidate with a great record on bread-and-butter Republican issues (aggressive opposition to Obamacare, guns, taxes, etc) is being abandoned. The explanation is, he didn't honor an agreement he was no party in, and he's being passively-aggressively punished for having the temerity to run for office. The VA GOP would rather lose this race so they can marginalize a tea partier.

I love the assholes claiming there's no food inflation. Go down to the grocery store and buy some Pringles(tm). The cans are now 2/3-3/4 the height the used to be. A few years ago you could get those taller cans for under a dollar. Now the short cans are more than a dollar. But no, there's no food inflation! Who are you going to believe, apologists for the administration or your lying eyes? Fuckers. Barbed cock of Satan. These guys. Some assembly required.

The food guys found a really smart way to deal with higher prices there. That shrinkage stuff didn't just save their bottom line in the obvious way, they dodged the killing venom the left would have thrown at them had they done the honest thing and raised prices. And so "there is no inflation".
That is the same kind of fakery that I expect to happen regarding Obamacare;
"Look what these horrible greedy companies have done to insurance." And since we already have the law, they won't have to convince even a majority of this line of crap. Just enough to stave of a major push.
So them get what they deserve people are wrong.

5 lbs of sugar is now really 4 lbs.
16 ounces of pasta is now 13 3/4 ounces or 14 or 12 or 15 varies by supplier.
But, the box looks the same and the sugar still is called "5 LBS of sugar"
and yeah, the price is the same so you don't notice you are getting less.

I expect anyone who shops regularly can produce a whole list of items that have shot up in price in recent years.
It used to be very common around here (LA County) for one of the major grocery chains to have London Broil for under $2 a pound in their weekly promotion. Likewise, boneless chicken breast for around $1 a pound. Today, a promotional price on either item is a dollar higher. The cost of the main item for dinner in household of three people has risen noticeably.
But hey, if you ignore food and fuel, inflation has been really low!
