Oy.

Has this been linked? Ramesh Ponurru and Rich Lowery have some advice for the GOP. It's long, but worth it. The short version is: hey, dummies, you're nothing if you can't win elections.

The White House started pushing a rather stupid talking point yesterday that Obamacare isn't responsible for people losing their insurance plans, rather it's insurance companies who are pushing people off their plans (to comply with Obamacare). This idea was getting resoundingly mocked last night on Twitter, even among lefty journos I know. The thing about lies is they have to be at least plausible. The only people buying this are people who know nothing about what Obamacare actually does; now that includes a lot of low-info voters (see MKH's final bit at the link there), but not a lot of people covering the law.

I don't think I've ever agreed with anything NY Times' David Carr has written before, but this piece slaughtering Gawker is excellent. Gawker, Jezebel, Perez Hilton -- I can't stand any of those gossip sites and I wish people (okay, we're talking about women and gays, mostly) would stop keeping them in business. Ugh.

2 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, October 29, 2013.  On this day in 1618 Sir Walter Raleigh, who was instrumental in the founding of the colonies at VA was beheaded for treason against King James I.  In fact, the real reason was to satisfy the Spanish after Raleigh had attacked one of their settlements in the new world.  His last words are said to be (regarding the ax)  "This is a sharp Medicine, but it is a Physician for all diseases and miseries." Strike, man, strike!"

6 I figured the new TX abortion law would be struck down as judge shopping reached its zenith.  But I didn't figure it would be done under this ridiculous crap.

A federal judge on Monday blocked part of a recently signed Texas law that requires abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

What happens if something goes wrong during the procedure?  Why shouldn't the doctor be able to get the woman into the hospital?  TX says it will take it all the way up.

7 The body count for people losing health insurance is up to 1.5 million now and climbing.  I had typed up a ¾ page rant over the intentional writing of the regulation that would cause up to 10 million to lose their plan (according to interview on Fox) but I then saw that Ace had already covered it.

I don't think that Ace had all the info because this is really a MAJOR thing.  It's not just a case of Obama lying once again.  This is downright dictatorial fraud in which the regulation goes far beyond what was written in the law.

16 My congress critter and Trey Gowdy hit Semenlius on her outrageous lies regarding the disaster of a run-out of the Obamacare website.

“You have made a number of curious statements during your career in public life. Time and space do not allow for a full inventory,” the letter, signed by Reps. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), begins.

“Most recently you are quoted as saying the abysmal Obamacare rollout — for which you had three years and more than $500,000,000 to prepare, test, and perfect — was the fault of House Republicans and the government shutdown,” the letter continues. “If memory serves, ObamaCare was signed into law in March of 2010, when Republicans controlled precisely no branch of government.”

We need to have this by ALL the Republicans instead of just three.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Thanks for the morning briefing, Gabe and Vic.  ItÂ’s another dark, cold day here in Massachusetts, but I find myself oddly warmed by the wails of despairing O-bots around me.  So before I go off to get a nice hot cup of tea, how about a little story?

IÂ’ve told you before about Jack Warner and how he hated the thought of anybody on his lot wasting time and money.  Not knowing anything about writing, he expected to hear the sounds of typewriters clacking all day in his WritersÂ’ Department, and told directors dubious about scripts that even a bad movie still paid peoplesÂ’ salary.

One day Warner asked the composer Harry Warren (The Lullaby of Broadway, Chattanooga Choo Choo, ThatÂ’s Amore) how long it took to write a song.  “About three weeks,” Warren replied.  “Three weeks?” an astonished Warner yelled.  “Three weeks to write one lousy song?”

“No,” Warren answered.  “Three weeks to write one good  song.”

And hereÂ’s one of those good songs – Ginger Rogers singing The Gold DiggerÂ’s Song (WeÂ’re in the Money) from one of my favorite  movies,  Gold Diggers of 1933:

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

I try to buy there when I can because I can't stand the thought if no bookstore to browse. The physical store to me is more than just a pile of inventory and the browsing experience can't be duplicated on line. Not that I want subsidies or federal intervention - they have to figure out how to stay viable on their own. I also have a Kindle DX that was a hand me down gift and it is a fine device but not superior to the Nook. They are pretty much equal. Note I'm talking about ereaders, I'm indifferent to the tablets as they are substandard readers IMHO. Just curious as to why the Kindle is ascendant. First to market?

That, and they didn't go nuts adding bloatware features that people didn't want. It works as a great e-reader, battery lasts for a couple of weeks without recharge, is small, cheap, and the text is crisp, clear, and like reading text printed on a piece of paper.

Surprise, you're racist again:

Pottery Barn has apologized for selling a Halloween costume of a sushi chef and a kimono that an Asian American civil rights group had complained were culturally offensive. The retailer confirmed late Monday that the items had been removed from its website.

"Our problem is not with the attire itself; it is with the fact that Pottery Barn is marketing these outfits as costumes," wrote Ling Woo Liu, director of strategic communications for Asian Americans Advancing Justice. "Like other minorities, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are real people who cannot and should not be commodified as Halloween costumes," Liu said.

National Review is the mouthpiece of the republican establishment, but they do know a fight is coming on immigration.

AoSHQ, being a hotbed of true conservatives, a haven for those with uncompromised principles and a beacon for others who seek the pure light of truth, justice and the American Way, should be able to come up with cogent position on the issue.

This would be more than "No Amnesty" or "Follow Existing Law".

People need to know what the real conservative position is on immigration.  What extent would we go to to seal the borders?  What would we do with the 12 million illegals already here?  What changes in existing laws or policies are needed to bring a more conservative bent to immigration?

We need to be able to talk to LIVs and say that what Chuck Schumer wants is bad and what we want is good because of X, Y, and Z.

It would help if our plan is something that the average person on the street would recognize as reasonable and possible.  It should appeal to people's sense of fairness, which would include preventing illegals from signing up for welfare benefits the day after jumping the fence.

The right needs to be able  to point to something we want to accomplish.  Plans are not just for crazy communists.  The public likes to follow leaders who seem to know where they are going.

I've never had a bookstore clerk sniff at my purchases, but I remember, during the dog-eating crackhead's first inauguration, going to the post office to mail a package.  When I got to the front of the line, the clerk said, "Wait a second," as she looked at something just out of my view.  Then she turned back to me with a huge grin and said, "Dick Cheney's not vice-president any more."

I debated with myself for a moment, then took my package back.  "I'm going to miss him," I said.  "And since I can use FedEx, I won't interrupt your gloating with my business."  And I walked out.  Haven't used that particular branch again.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin on Monday removed a Facebook post that erroneously claimed a GOP leader had told the president, "I can't even stand to look at you," saying he's satisfied that people now know he's not to blame for the mistake. Though the White House quickly said the information was wrong, Durbin had declined to remove the post until Monday.

"They gave me a bad quote and then they said it didn't occur," Durbin said Monday, speaking to reporters after he and U.S. Sen. John McCain spoke to a civic group about immigration reform in Chicago. "Now it's history, it's behind us."

jwest is very good at tossing around logical fallacies and pretending it's wisdom.

There's such a thing as "self-deportation."  Illegals come here because there is little to no consequence for them coming here.  They can find work  and basically live much better under the radar in the US than as honest citizens in their own country.

Take all that away...enforce existing laws against hiring illegals and, almost like magic, that whole free market thing Establishment Republicans claim to honor will do wonders in clearing out the detritus.  I've seen it work firsthand - my little town used to have an illegal alien hiring center...basically a common rec-center-style building where illegals would come to hang out and look for jobs.  It was tjhe "compassionate" response to the problem of illegals hanging out in a local park (and the arguments for building this center were the same as jwest is pushing, namely that we aren't going to get rid of illegals so we should accomodate them, etc etc).  After it was built, the town administration was voted out and the new guard a) closed the center and b) enforced existing laws against loitering, vagrancy, etc.  Police hung around some of the known areas to dissuade people from hiring the illegals.

Within a few months most of the illegals had left.

It's not naive or ridiculous to apply these lessons to the national stage.  What's dumb though is pretending the argument doesn't have merit while trolling an internet comments thread.

165 I waited and hoped for the news to get out that millions were going to lose their insurance ever since I got my cancellation letter. Now that the story's finally out there, I need this next bit of happy new to break through....

My carrier (local Blue Cross) advises me that I have to purchase a plan by 11/20/13 to avoid a break in coverage by 1/1/14.

The problem is that in order to see the full range of plan options on their site, I have to click through to the Obamacare site and:

1. ) it doesn't work and
2. ) I'd rather just publish my personal information on Twitter because the identity theft would be quicker and probably more painless.

So now what do us "responsible" citizens that had coverage before do?

Posted by: jeannebodine at October 29, 2013 04:11 AM (2LJqa)

Unfortunately the left main gear failed to deploy, and the landing was a little rough. (Think Six Million Dollar Man.) What a beautiful spacecraft. SNC believes that it is repairable. Incidentally, the M2-F2 lifting body involved in the 1967 crash used in SMDM's opening credits was repaired and flew again, and the pilot survived. Dream Chaser is derived from that design.

195 142. No. That is not what enforcement of the law means. Your Elia example portrays what comes with politically motivated selectivity of enforcement COMBINED with ignoring portions of immigration law that exist (sought asylum, has family legally in the US, and is living with family of means, responsible and law abiding people). Clinton/Reno were the reasons a lot of Democrats with logical brains and moral scruples realized that the Democratic Party had gone full ape shit NAZI, and split away from the party of their youth and perhaps of their family tradition. Economic rationale came later as "reason" to become Republican, just in time for the neoconservatives to blow apart fiscal conservatism while destroying constitutional integrity "for our own good" with bipartisan shared authoritarian values. The Patriot Act, No Child Allowed to Learn, Faith Based Marxist Initiatives, NAFTA, comprehensive immigration and health care reform legislative packages, Interventionist Perpetual Wars, Nation Building abroad so we don't have to do it here, Bail-Out the too big to fail global corporatists who took the money and ran in the first place selling derivatives, Executive Order making the Sec./Treasury autonomous, etc.

No, sugar tits, the "clueless and useless" bit is this:  You ask, "what's your immigration plan?"  I say, "Enforce existing laws on the books and see how that effects things before embarking on some harebrained 'fix.'"

You reply, "So far, the consensus is that we follow existing law on immigration. This means that we conservatives want Elian Gonzales style midnight raids, kicking the doors in and deporting everyone who isn't a citizen. Good plan. Winning."

Towards the end of Levin's show last night, he calmly and carefully (re)educated a LIV 17 year old who started off blasting capitalism and promoting socialism. By the end of the segment, he was at least open-minded to learning more.

Very well worth a listen. Posted by: J.J. Sefton

I did not hear that one, but something Levin, and to an extent Rush, can do well, when they want to (that's more about Levin - I can't deal with his screaming) is calmly and carefully educate people.  It's essentially the Socratic method.  I used the same thing to educate a (basically socialist) guy I know about how "trickle down" economics works.  He's no dummy, and he admitted "getting it", but then he didn't like what he was admitting so he basically did the "yeah, well..." and since I was driving in the rain, I went back to intently focusing on the road more than necessary.  However, to the voters who don't care that a "Eureka!" moment might not coincide with their worldview, this is important.  Just screaming buzzwords and principles isn't going to change anything.

One can see where Spielberg got his idea for the opening song in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

The other thing.. I can't be sure, but the chorus line (#6) seemed to contain a young Marjorie Reynolds who later starred in Holiday Inn.

And I really loved the pig-latin verse in that song.. I can't believe I've never seen that before.

256 Here's another fun fact about the Obamacare that people won't experience until they're soaking in it.

Say you have one of the plans that has a $9,000 deductible. Depending on your plan, if you have a test that has a price of $2,500, it's possible that only a small fraction of the cost will be applied to the deductible. In some plans only the "reasonable & customary" charge is applied to the deductible.

My husband had a high deductible plan a few years ago and he never got close to meeting his deductible for this reason. We were able to negotiate with the physicians for the cost of the services but still, the deductible can be misleading. That's where in-network, HMOs, PPOs matter the most.

You're stealing a lot of bases if you're trying to use the VA governor's race as a reason why the GOP should abandon conservative principles and instead become mercenary.

The VA GOP largely abandoned Cuccinelli out of sour grapes because he won the nomination over their preferred RINO choice Bill Bolling.  Further, the national GOP passed up the chance to nationalize the race ala Scott Walker and in doing so failed to make this race a referendum against Obama - apparently because supporting an unapologetic tea partier would make "moderates" feel uncomfortable.

274 4 Must have been a .22 or a .25, and a low powered one at that. Gas station attendant is saved from a bullet fired by a robber when the bullet strikes his cell phone and failed to penetrate it. FYI, a standard laptop hard drive can stop (capture, actually) a 45ACP LSWC bullet moving along at 850-900fops. The other thing.. I can't be sure, but the chorus line (#6) seemed to contain a young Marjorie Reynolds who later starred in Holiday Inn.

I'm glad you like the link, Jerry.  I don't see that Reynolds was in the film (I can't find it in her credits), but it's certainly possible.  1933 had four sequels: Gold Diggers of Broadway, Gold Diggers of 1935, Gold Diggers of 1937 and Gold Diggers of Paris, but like most series, the first is the best.

278 Meanwhile the Navy Times still can't get a clear answer on why Capt. Ted Williams was summarily relieved of command last November. What has been released in the redacted information does not show cause for his relief from commanding USS Mount Whitney. I can't stop laughing. THEY DON'T NEED CAUSE. No one on a ship, no one, is more easily replaced than the CO. Grow up. CO of the Mount Whitney is life in the fastest of fast lanes. And there ain't no exit ramps

284 >>You're stealing a lot of bases if you're trying to use the VA governor's race as a reason why the GOP should abandon conservative principles and instead become mercenary. This is a great example of why people end up talking past each other and instead just sit here yelling at each other all day. I said twice in that comment that I am not advocating changing principles, I am advocating changing the message, the style. And some how what you took out of that was I was saying change principles. You know the reason a lot of people who didn't necessarily support Reagan's positions still liked Reagan? Because he was an upbeat, happy warrior. He talked about how conservative principles would set people free and revive the country. He was not perpetually pissed off and angry. Angry and pissed off does not attract people. One of Ted Cruz's most attractive qualities is that he is a happy warrior. He eats up attacks and comes back smiling. He takes the time to try and explain why he believes what he does instead of insulting those who don't agree with him. And he is doing a very good job of redefining the party as an outsider. If we had done a better job of defining Ocare in the first place we might not be here today. But we lost the message war to the liberals and here we are. And now we all have to go through a lot of pain to get it fixed. Or we can just keep doing the same shit and losing. But at least we'll have our principles to keep us warm.

290 Yeah, about that NRO article. Will Ponurru and Lowery please set out what victories, exactly, their approach has gained since, oh, I'm in a generous mood, 2000? No, seriously, if you want to persuade me that moderation for the sake of moderation in order to elect people to Congress is a viable strategy in order to obtain the seats to achieve results conservatives want, then you had damn well better present some evidence, actual tangible evidence and facts, to me that upon having such a majority, a conservative agenda will be advanced. That article, not to mention all the sniping and snarking here, are rather remarkable in the failure to answer the simple question of how will this help achieve the ends which I, as a conservative, seek. Let me reiterate. I, as a conservative, have been told for going on 20 odd years now that we must nominate the most conservative candidate that is electable, which, oddly enough, always seems to mean someone who is at least in the middle of the road, if not to the left side of the Republican spectrum as opposed to someone to the right side of the conservative spectrum. I, as a conservative, have been told for going on 20 odd years now that the key is getting bodies in the seats and then, then a conservative agenda will be advance. I, as a conservative, have been told for going on 20 odd years now that I need to be a good girl and sit down and be quiet and understand the realities of the situation. Guess what? I've done that. I have supported candidates whose loathing for me was obvious. I have given time and treasure to attempt to elect those who have no use for me. For what? For what, exactly? What, specifically and precisely, have I gained by setting aside principles? For pity's sake, the examples they use arise from those horrible ideologues standing athwart and yelling halt. You see, some of us were paying attention back then and some of us remember these intra-party wars are all happening again because it all happened before.
This is one of the things which infuriates me. That article? Is nothing more or less than point blank magical thinking underneath the veneer of poorly disguised contempt. Fine. We do it their way. And then what? No, seriously, what? Suddenly a tide of conservative ideals will swell up and all will be well? It's Underpants Gnomes, all the way down. I am beyond tired of those holding the conservative wing of the party in contempt acting is if their approach is working. It is not. It is demonstrably not. It is factually not. Stop acting like it is. Stop it. Ponurru and Lowery, et al want me to act as if all of politics since GHWB has not taken place. Who are the ones living in a fantasy world? We have done things the way they wish. It has led us here. I sat down. I shut up. It's their turn now. (in exchange for the tl;dr have some Marilyn - http://bit.ly/HnI65t )

7-year-old still in class after pencil stabbing

WHDH (Boston): http://tinyurl.com/mbeqvn5

SPENCER, Mass. (WHDH) -- Parents of students at Wire Village School are outraged after learning a 7-year-old student is still in class after being accused of assaulting another 7-year-old boy so seriously, the victim had to undergo emergency surgery.

7News was told that the victim, a second-grader, had to undergo emergency surgery. He lost quite a bit of blood and has to wear a colostomy bag.

"My child is in the same class as the perpetrator, and has had issues with the perpetrator on other occasions, and I’m very concerned about the safety of my son,” said Lynda Hafner, a concerned parent.

Police said it took place during recess on October 4th but were not saying much else due to the sensitivity of what took place.

"Another boy took a pencil and stabbed him through his pants and his underwear,” said Hafner.

Parents want to know why it took so long for the school to notify them and why the student allegedly responsible is still in class.

“We found out through Facebook. It was a shock to us. It wasn't from the school. It was just through Facebook. Not the way I like to find things out,” said Travis Riley, a parent...

Cruz just might be.

Being likable and charismatic are traits that our candidate could use, however, I believe that if we're going to start winning elections  the candidate needs to be able to explain why the conservative method is better than the liberal one.

The person running must have taken the time to think the positions through.  If you know and understand a position based on principle and worked through to encompass real world situations, you can get through any interview or debate with people believing you know what you're talking about.

Spouting a bumper sticker slogan without being able to back it up won't help conservatives because we don't control the media and can't set the narrative.

Well, I apologize if I misread you, but on the other hand the VA Gov situation is one where the state GOP and, to an extent, the national party isn't doing a whole lot in the way of support. Then when the predictable happens it's then used as an example of why conservatives can't win.

When Bill Bolling comes out in an interview a month or two after the convention and openly questions Cuccinelli's qualifications to be Governor, I'm not too receptive to someone telling me Cuccinelli needs to work on his messaging.

Posted by: @JohnTant at October 29, 2013 08:58 AM (PFy0L)

It's tough for the GOP, they appear to not have a clue and don't seem to be looking for one.  The dems are all over social media in the comments and even on lunatic fringe sites, the GOP isn't close to having the army of willing cyber operatives needed to counteract the dems.  Was forwarded a link to this thread on a site called lunatic outpost which is a fringy conspiracy site, yet, there is a thread about the GOP in Virginia.  The title is: GOP collapses in Virginia.  Since people are on that site to hear about comets and what not, they'll read that title, process it but not open to read, so they won't see anyone refuting what has been stated but in their mind they will think the Cuccinelli and company doesn't have a chance.  And, there's no GOP cyber crew to put up a pro Cuccinelli thread.  This is where the GOP loses in these seemingly small places that get a lot of hits from a demographic they desperately need, the 18 - 35 set.

The freak'n thing is falling apart so bad the liberal media can't even ignore it and where are our betters? Or is this silence some great tactical move I'm too daft to understand? It's the same approach I've been saying for months. It's the same approach that Freedom Works and Heritage Action are now advocating. Not because any of us like Obamacare but because after losing in 2012 it was the only way. If you read the Obamacare statute you will realize that there was no way to defund Obamacare without either getting both the House and the Senate to agree and to get Obama to sign it or to get super majorities in both houses to override Obama. This was just never going to happen. And I think everyone really knows this even if they don't want to admit it. Yea, fighting on that hill sounded satisfying but it was never going to be a battle we could win. It's about fighting and winning on the hill not walking into a suicide mission. But we've always had a secret weapon and that weapon is the reality of Obamacare. Yes, it sounds good on paper to a lot of LIVs, even more with the lies Obama used to sell it. But it was never going to work. People were always going to lose their doctors and their insurance and rates were always going to skyrocket. This is what happens with socialized medicine. And people will be pissed. This isn't the UK post WWII. This is the USA were we have no history of socialized medicine in the general population and it is already sinking like a rock. This is our weapon to beat the libs into the dirt. I've been saying for weeks that this isn't just a battle over Ocare. If we frame it properly, like Reagan did and like Cruz is trying, we can make this a referendum on big, our of control federal government and move that Overton Window ace always talks about. We can get rid of Obamacare but we need to win elections, the first coming next fall. And we need the support of the masses to do that. And now we have issue. All we need to do now is unite behind that message and start beating the libs over the head with it. We will never all agree on any candidate or representative. So what? At least on this issue everyone on our side of the aisle is in agreement. Let's go win next fall so we can get rid of this piece of shit law and then we can start the purges for those who aren't sufficiently conservative.

378 HAIFA, ISRAEL – With every passing day bringing new allegations of the U.S. spying on its allies, many Israelis figure they would be naive to believe America wasn't snooping on its closest ally in the Middle East. But instead of the indignation seen in France, Spain and Germany at the prospect that the National Security Agency listened in to the phone calls of top leaders, Israelis seem to take in stride the prospect of Uncle Sam listening in. “I think it is almost a universal assumption that everyone tries to spy on everyone,” Mark Heller, of Tel Aviv’s Institute for National Security Studies told FoxNews.com. “Since the U.S. - by virtue of its resources, if nothing else - is the most capable, then it is probably best to assume that it does [now] or has done in the past to Israel what it has apparently done to its other friends and allies. “It’s almost a given” Heller continued. “The whole story reminds me of the scene from Casablanca when the Chief of Police is shocked to find out that there is gambling going on in the casino!” Former spymaster Danny Yatom told reporters the suspicions are warranted. It seems only the Israel has it's head tied on right

Another 33 percent say they’re still not sure whether to become ObamaCare providers. Only 23 percent of the 409 physicians queried said they’re taking patients who signed up through health exchanges. “This is so poorly designed that a lot of doctors are afraid to participate,” said Dr. Sam Unterricht, president of the 29,000-member organization. “There’s a lot of resistance. Doctors don’t know what they’re going to get paid.” Three out of four doctors who are participating in the program said they “had to participate” because of existing contractual obligations with an insurer or medical provider, not because they wanted to.

I meant to thank you yesterday for explaining what's going on in VA to me. Thank you, that is helpful to know.

--------

You're welcome.

There's a lot about the VA gov race that just isn't  widely  known, and yet it's going to be treated as a bellwether by whichever side wins.  One would think the GOP would be taking it more seriously, but apparently punishing Cuccinelli is more pressing than preventing TMA from being our Gov.

One thing - in fairness, Cuccinelli got the nomination via convention and not primary.  The  story from  the Establishment side is that Bolling would have won a primary and therefore somehow Cuccinelli cheated his way into the nomination.  However, Cuccinelli won a  previous  statewide election as well, and there's no guarantee that Bolling would have won the primary.

Besides, in  Cuccinelli's  shoes I would have done the same thing...limited resources would have been spent on a primary when instead they could have been saved for the general.

An hour or two researching how to do it and, more importantly, the danger of a tightly wound spring coming loose persuaded me to call a professional. I assumed we were talking about the pairs of springs that mount on each side. If you have the bigass single spring that mounts in the center above the opening, it is not a DIY project.

403 If you read the Obamacare statute you will realize that there was no way to defund Obamacare without either getting both the House and the Senate to agree and to get Obama to sign it or to get super majorities in both houses to override Obama. This was just never going to happen. Posted by: JackStraw at October 29, 2013 09:26 AM (g1DWB) I wish people would stop repeating shit like this. If Tip O'Neal were running the house, he would have won this. Yes, there is a way to defund obamacare. You clench up like an asshole and you hold until the rest of the body is screaming bloody murder! You don't fucking give up. You hold and hold and hold again. You don't fund a fucking thing they want until you get what YOU want. That's how Tip O'Neal did it, and the same method would have worked for us.

My last house was built in '87. The one door had the springs on the side. The original springs did not have the safety cable that will capture the spring if it breaks. When mine went out, it tore a nasty gash in the unfinished drywall. I hate to think what it would have done had it hit the car.

406 I've been saying for weeks that this isn't just a battle over Ocare. Posted by: JackStraw at October 29, 2013 09:26 AM (g1DWB) Soooooooo, you are in the these are not the last 20+ years of actual results you are looking for camp? In point of fact, I don't agree that at least on this issue everyone on our side of the aisle is in agreement. Is that terribly cynical? Well, I think it's more that I have paid attention over the last several decades and it seems that every single time I'm told no no no we must fight that fight over there, not this one here, that fight over there is never fought. Hell, let's use the Wayback and go back to the mists of 2011 and the debt limit increase and weren't there solemn assurances made that this was it, no more and never again? Yeah. Uh huh. My main gripe about DICE's single player side of Battlefield and Bad Company series is that they do a shitty job of it.  If you noticed, the SP game storyline feels like it deliberately forces you alone to do things and makes the game feel contrived and artificial.  CoD, for all it's faults, does a much better job at the SP than DICE.

The BF series is now nothing but stat whoring and social media.  DICE would do well to go back to the original BF1942 type game.  Take all the guns out of it.  Just have one gun per class, or make a small number of all-kit guns that anyone can use.  Drop the stats and the unlock bullshit and maybe you'll have better cooperation between teammates in MP games.  Right now, it's all about people doing shit on their own to claim medals and unlocks and achievements.  I'm done with BF.

When I got to the front of the line, the clerk said, "Wait a second," as she looked at something just out of my view. Then she turned back to me with a huge grin and said, "Dick Cheney's not vice-president any more." I debated with myself for a moment, then took my package back. "I'm going to miss him," I said. "And since I can use FedEx, I won't interrupt your gloating with my business." And I walked out. Haven't used that particular branch again. ------_ I knew there was a reason I always look forward to your comments! That was/is beautiful response!

This is the fault of the big insurance companies. Those companies are owned by bigger corporations, which means they are owned by multinational banks, which means that the money from raised health insurance premiums ends up in the pockets of "international bankers" who support Zionism and its illegal wars against the Palestinian people.

There can be no justice for the Palestinians as long as giant multinational banks have the ability to make money.

Support Palestine- support single-payer government health care in which these Zionist multibillionaires pay their share for social and economic justice.

426 One of the problems with vote by mail:

We are mandated to do vote by mail in WA state. I hate it. If someone can't bother to go to a polling place to vote, they have no business voting. Anyway, I get my mail at property that I own. For some reason, I didn't get my ballot, although my boyfriend got his. I called and asked to have another ballot sent out. THEN, they told me at work that my mail from them was being returned. The mail carrier, on his own, had decided that my mail was undeliverable and was returned.

I went to the Post Office to complain (after calling and being routed to a supervisor's voice mail.) They tried to tell me that it was okay for the employee to decide that I couldn't receive mail at that address. When I mentioned that I thought they were deliberately trying to keep me from getting my ballot, they brought out the supervisor. Of course, he told me it was just human error and that he'd talk to the carrier. I told him that they are still delivering mail to people that haven't lived at that address for years and won't stop, even though I've refused the mail. He seemed to think that was just human error.

I've requested ballot number three and I noticed that the carrier did have my name on the box again. We'll see if this one comes through. I told the supervisor that I will file a complaint if I don't get it. Just be aware that receiving mail from Hillsdale College can prompt this sort of behavior from mail carriers.

Posted by: JackStraw at October 29, 2013 09:52 AM (g1DWB) Those are your attempts at examples of moderate victories since 2000? Really, that's the very very very best you can do? Gun control. Pat. Motherfucking. Toomey. The only reason why gun control did not pass is because those horrible purists hold everyone's feet to the damn fire and make the consequences for voting otherwise severe indeed. Pat Motherfucking Toomey sure as shit would have sold conservatives out on this. It's not the moderate middle who said fuck you next question re: gun control. Amnesty. Really? Really, you are bringing up amnesty as an RNC victory advancing conservative principles? What the hell? You do understand that we are in the situation we are in now because every single solitary promise made in the 1986 amnesty vote has been broken, right? Oh, hey, that fence on the border sure is coming along nicely, isn't it? No sequester cuts. In exchange for sequester, we got what, exactly? An effectively unlimited debt ceiling raise? Because, you see, looking back over that entire situation, that's where we ended up. Bush tax cuts being made permanent. I will concede, at least partially, that this is something of a victory. Oh. Wait. Why were those cuts necessary in the first place? *taps chin a lot* I have no problem with strategic alliances to get rid of Obamacare. But stop it, just stop it already with acting as if the horrible terrible purist wing arose only because of this issue. It didn't and you know full damn well it did not and it's embarrassing watching the intellectual contortions you (specific you) are attempting in order to act as if it is otherwise. I will reiterate, because, shockingly, it seems I have not yet been clear enough. It is time for the moderates to sit down and shut up and take their turn in being good team players. You (generic RNCish you) want me on your team for Obamacare? Okay. Fine. Then tell me, and give me reason to believe, why I should think that the second that is done you aren't going to shiv me in the face. Because I don't believe that.

430 >>Those are your attempts at examples of moderate victories since 2000? Really, that's the very very very best you can do? No, Simply the first few things that popped into my mind that happened in the last couple years, not since 2000. You might have noticed we had a couple wars during Bush's years that everyone here supported. Who do you think paid for those? Aside from entitlements, which got derailed in Bush's second term, that was the bulk of the new spending. How about you stop already with putting words in my mouth. I'm neither a moderate nor a Tea Party member. I'm a conservative Independent who would like to see conservative principles moved forward and that only happens if we win. Yes, it would be better if only True Conservatives won but we don't live in a country of True Conservatives in the majority. We need more not less support. And that means we start to realize we have some things in common with people who are less conservative than us and nothing in common with liberals. Winning is good. Losing sucks.

432 I want to know when conservatism became partly defined as winning and losing elections? Sure, it's part of the strategy. But conservatism, what it is and what it means, really has nothing to do with winning elections. Its a way of thinking, and honestly, it's more important to explain the way of thinking and understand it and then proceed to live ones life by it, than it is to win elections.

Posted by: Ed Morrissey at October 29, 2013 08:42 AM (3nUrQ)

This applies the the GOP establishment (spare me the usual "what establishment you babbling lunatic?" bullshit.) as much as anyone else. You lost a lot. You can't win elections. You ARE Nothing. You "won" your way into a pit, the tea party helped you out out of it, you stabbed them in the back, and then you "won" your way right back into the same pit again. You're done. You fucked up.
