8 The continuing resolution is now more or less a dead issue. Full court press now on the debt ceiling. Will SCOAMF unilaterally raise the debt ceiling in defiance of Congress? There's your fundamental transformation. Complete lawless tyranny. THIS is why we cannot compromise any more.

12 'Gravity' looks like it would be cool flick. Gotta see it in Imax, for maximum effect I think. Watched a couple of TED talks recently where two separate presenters came to the same conclusion; when the Apollo astronauts took photographs of Earth from the Moon, it was the beginning of the 'Save The Planet!!!' movement. One can only wonder what the impressionable youth would think up after seeing 'Gravity'.

14 Really the Republicans just need to pass a one year addition to the debt ceiling at current spending levels. Then it is easier for them to hold firm on the CR. Also, they take away the talk of a financial collapse and look like the ones willing to compromise.

Kaitlyn Hunt, 19, pleaded no contest to battery, interference with child custody and contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a child.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at October 04, 2013 07:15 AM (a4Omg) It's about as high a crime as any president has ever or could ever commit. Essentially, he will have destroyed an entire branch of the government by usurping its power. Should he be impeached? Absolutely. Will he? No. Not with a Democrat Senate and a feckless/spineless House. But this is moot because the magic 8 ball sez that Boehner will violate the Hastert rule to agree to a raise of the debt ceiling.

73 House Leadership in Listening Mode on Debt Limit- http://bit.ly/175hpsa

"What is going on, is that House Republican Leadership allies, like Ryan, and Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., are meeting with multiple House members about the ongoing government shutdown and impending debt limit deadline.

But, this source stressed, these meetings are more like listening session than sales meetings. There is no leadership 'Grand Bargain' plan that is being sold to members.

Instead, Ryan, Camp, and other Leadership allies, are feeling out their movement conservative colleagues about what the acceptable parameters of a final deal with Obama on the debt limit could look like."

Not really. Of all the people NASA has ever sent up, the average age is closer to 40 than 30. Neil and Buzz were both 39 when they landed on the Moon.

Career military guys in roles like piloting tend to be in pretty good shape and experience counts for a great deal when they're investing megabucks in sending you up.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at October 04, 2013 07:15 AM (a4Omg)

It's about as high a crime as any president has ever or could ever commit.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at October 04, 2013 07:18 AM (WjLUf)

I wonder if the banks would accept the debt.  If it is not legally issued, it could be repudiated legally at a later date.   By doing this, Obama may pull down the whole house of cards on debt, and the dollar as a reserve currency.  Can you say Great Depression?

Impeachment would be the least of his worries.

There are just too many crucial battles to be fought simultaneously. Oddly enough, if Boehner just stand firm on the CR and the debt, he could at the very least resuscitate the base for '14, even if we ultimately have to concede. The bigger test would be what would Boehner do if he stood firm and Barry decided to dissolve Congress and just raise the debt? THAT would be the test, but of course Agent Orange will not allow himself to be put in a position to have to actually stand up and be counted at the nation's most crucial hour.

The texturing is fantastic and only getting better, but there's just no excuse these days to get the physics sooo wrong.

150 And on another note-while I think of it-Jesus may have been the black Jesus. We don't know what he looked like. In several churches I have served they have had "portraits" of Jesus in profile looking as if he could be (complexion wise and with blonde hair) a member of Norway's ski team. He is surrounded by a blue background and a white nimbus. They are clearly mass produced from the same time period. I don't know when that was, but they are ghastly. Bad artwork work and awful religious kitsch. I was rather glad when someone from the food pantry stole the picture from the hallway. I would never remove the picture from any of the churches I served because it meant a lot to the folks there, but there are so many great works of art I would rather have seen. Jesus was a Semite from Israel. He was most likely quite brown.

Don't mistake the age of the actor for the age of the character. Actors play characters much younger than themselves quite frequently. clint Eastwood was playing cops at an age when retirement would have been forced on a real cop. Stallone wa still making Rocky movies at an absurdly advanced age.

Once in a while it's the other way around. Kate Bosworth was 23 when she played Lois Lane in 'Superman Returns.' This made the movie a bit absurd since Superman was returning to Earth after a five year absence, meaning Lois was a nationally known reporter at a mere 18 years of age.

When a person crosses that line to sell out, it is not like he had to get up from a comfortable chair and walk for miles uphill to do it. All he had to do was hang back for a while, and that line would eventually cross him.

173 76 My only question about the movie "Gravity" is why are they sending old people into space? I thought astronauting was a young person's game. Financing for the movie. A high dollar, special effects laden project doesn't get off the ground (heh) without big name stars to insure a certain amount of viewership. Bullock and Clooney indicate they needed to up the attendance of the women's demographic for this movie. Me, I can not wait for the sequence where the soundtrack plays "Brown-Eyed Girl" while the astronauts try out different helmets and make funny faces.

214 When 2001 Space Odyssey came out, the astronaut had guts, didn't whine and cower about being scared. Judging strictly by the movie's clips on tv, imo, the Gravity movie seems set on the pathetic. Scientifically, what person would actually think they're SAFE when projected into space? There's all kinds of shit flying around out there, not just the big orbs, and all sorts of mechanical problems that can go wrong with a ship, or your health, supplies, and if you're not close to the repair shop or the best medical care, the end. Guessing that the premise is (maybe) earth/people/life destroyed, whatever, doom struck. The movie clips are spent isolated in space, Sandra Bullock gets left to die, and we're stuck waiting for her to kick the bucket while she refuses to at least focus on the cosmos rather than her finite life span. I had a hard enough time exerting the patience required to watch Tom Hanks pretend to play a meaningful role, isolated on a deserted island, whining to Wilson. "Gravity" will make it to Netflix at some point. As much as I'd like to see outer space on the big screen, if the optics are really confined to a capsule bubble, forgetaboutit. And if she launches her body back to earth, to crash, I don't want to wait a full movie for that ending. From the scenes promoting the movie, Sandra Bullock makes her astronaut look like an old cry baby missing her pink binky. I could be wrong. But we grew up watching our astronauts facing the reality of death every time they got in a rocket. I don't believe astronauts have a death wish at all, but have indeed come to terms with mortality and its place in the grand scheme of all things "out there" -- things beyond Hollywood's ability to face. Hollywood always ends up making the cosmos all about Hollywood. Yuck. When it's all about Hollywood, some of the best "Hollywood" modern movies projecting what they'd like to see themselves to be? Comedic self loathing... Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986) http://tinyurl.com/csct4 Self, how did I get here? $.02

215 You know what? No, let me tell you. RINO - Perhaps we're past the point where being a RINO should be considered a liberal in conservative's wool. With the old leadership, RINO means not acting like Boener and the Associate Progressives. For example: Cruz is a RINO, a conservative yet Republican. Sad to see the Republican name so soured. As the search for third-party names always demonstrates, it's hard to beat. For truth in advertising, the great civil struggle is Constitutional Republicanism ("if you can keep it" -BenF) vs Democratic totalitarianism. Well, that took time to tap-type. Dump up yet?

"May I ask why you're wearing that hat," said the 43rd chief executive, a former owner of the Texas Rangers, as he reached out to shake Love's hand.

Bush, who looked relaxed and was wearing the U.S. red and navy uniforms, was a popular figure at the opening ceremonies.

"Boy, do we miss you," a fan called out after the crowd chanted "43, 43" when he was introduced.

Hunter Mahan, who was playing in the first match with Brandt Snedeker, found his wife Kandi and baby daughter, Zoe, in the crowd and brought them over to Bush, a fellow Texan.

**Class act as always**

(Of course the scrunt from ESPN that wrote the article had to get a jab in...)

Bush slipped back into politician mode and bent over to kiss Zoe, who was born in July, then posed for pictures with the entire family.

What are you talking about? That's not even remotely the plot and I have no idea how you got to there from the tv ads. It's about shuttle astronauts on a mission when the shuttle gets slammed into by debris and they are cut adrift and have to find some way to keep themselves from being hurtled into space. That's what freaks me out so much about it, because, yes, that could happen. I watched the otherwise horrible Apollo 18 and the parts of it that are about the lander being damaged and the astronauts running of out oxygen and possibly being trapped on the Moon are terrifying. 263 ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Jacob Quick is a fat and happy 4-month-old with a big and expensive appetite. Like millions of other poor women, Jacob's mother relies on the federal Women, Infants and Children program to pay for infant formula — aid that is now jeopardized by the government shutdown.

"What's going to happen to my baby?" asked Jacob's mother, Cierra Schoeneberger, as she fed him a bottle of formula bought with her WIC voucher. "Am I going to have to feed him regular milk, or am I going to have to scrounge up the little bit of change I do have for formula or even baby food?"

Schoenberger, for example, said her son goes through about $40 worth of formula a week. "It's like a car payment," said the unemployed mother of three.

267 Yesterday... Back in 1963-64, our family lived outside of Washington D.C. while my dad was on sabbatical. Every weekend, my mom had organized family outings, taking us kids to see EVERY historical building, museum, national place of significance, battle fields along the East Coast (Revolutionary and Civil Wars). We visited several times each Arlington, every presidential memorial, the Capitol Building, the Supreme Court building, once touring the White House (Camelot), standing solemnly as Kennedy's casket was paraded with military guard. I remember my dad driving us, on different occasions, pulling over to ask Guards for directions since the map never showed which D.C. roads were "One Way" only. THAT is America. Being able to approach security guards or law enforcement officers when lost, to ask either for directions or for help. Don't tell me that the guards OUTSIDE the perimeter of a national historical site have no responsibility to protect and defend or at least to simply observe US citizenry in the course of daily life rather than take every first opportunity to kill (threaten) point blank as the only assessment of every situation, and the only legitimate response to any American asking for directions. It is wrong when political and media messaging propagandize any "virtue" of authoritarianism.

Leo Finn was diagnosed with a rare form of bile duct cancer in February. He tried chemotherapy, but the cancer quickly spread to his liver and into his bones.

FinnÂ’s doctor at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston suggested he try cabozantinib, a drug that had successfully treated thyroid cancer but had not yet been tested on other forms of cancer. The Buzzards Bay, Mass., resident and father of three had been scheduled to undergo tests this week to get the drug, as a part of a new clinical trial overseen by the National Institutes of Health. But the trial was put on hold Tuesday because of the government shutdown.

A website operated by NIH and the Food and Drug Administration where new patients must first enroll before receiving the drug had ceased operations because of the shutdown.

Why do they need to close a website down? Once again the Dems are sticking it to people to get their way and the MFM is bleating that people are suffering because of the Republicans.

Also wrong. There's an explosion of something else that's in orbit which sends debris hurtling towards the shuttle. To be fair, though, I can see why you'd think that. It's not clear from the tv spots and trailer that the debris field is do to a sudden event. The first time I saw the trailer my response was who is the idiot who didn't properly graph out the orbit because it's not like you can't track what's up there. I did some digging and found out that wasn't the case. All of this does point out that the marketing department has done a piss poor job indeed of making comprehensible trailers and ads for it. The only reason I know this stuff is because I'm a film geek who reads up on movies I have no intention of seeing. You don't have to spoil your entire movie but at least make the main outlines of the plot clear.

333 Anna Puma, I recently watched "First man Into Space' again on Netflix. As a kid I'd seen it on some late night local low budget station's Count Floyd movie show, as it absolutely creeped the hell outta me. One of the few horror movies I have a real memory of. Anyway, seeing it as an adult, I understood why. The cocky, handsome, heroic astronaut pushes the limits to be the first man into space and what does he get for his efforts? He gets turned into a shambling, pathetic, booger-headed cripple with one dead eye no longer fit for life on earth and forced to breathe through a lipless gaping hole with the remnants of his upper teeth sticking through. Oh, and he has to drink blood just to breathe and survive. The worst part of all is that he's so damaged he doesn't even realize that he's a monster. He just trying to get back home. Terrifiying stuff. For an 8 or 9 year old.

379 306. She certainly did need help. I agree. My generation isn't the only one that was taught to find someone in uniform when lost, to ask for help. And look what she got for approaching police when lost. Threatened by multiple and conflicting commands at gun point, freaking anyone out regardless of mental stability. (Remember the sorority girls who bought cookie dough and bottled water, threatened at gunpoint by an unknown law enforcement agency, speeding away and calling 911 for help.) At no point did any officer answer her question, or even take a second to look and assess her status, to NOTICE she had a baby with her. Her baby is lucky not to have been murdered as well during the police gunned show down on the unarmed woman who accidentally bumped something while under extreme duress. Yesterday was shock and awe. And we're still being told fabrications without documentation, to normalize what was an initial shock into what is a usual suspect scenario. Imo, the story belongs to media propaganda manufacturers, the MSM hardly being reliable sources to date as a general rule. The media's first tale had no source, and still no M.D. of the victim, as to her supposedly suffering mental illness regularly -- quoted no record -- until what the mother is quoted as having alluded to this morning. This woman was murdered. The federal authorities would want/need/fabricate a CYA story to excuse what happened to her at their hands. The first thing reported was a give away. The woman's mother would have been approached FIRST thing after the FUBAR, told by the authoritarians what they wanted her to hear, and what they want the mother to say (to not contest) for the media to report. /An offer she couldn't refuse. The media won't even call the victim's baby "the mother's child". This whole thing stinks to high heaven. It doesn't matter WHY she was there. She had the right to be wherever in public. And there is no telling what happened according to official reports designed to sell no wrong doing on the part of the murderers; as if official authoritarianism is good and necessary, murder by cop the norm which we must all embrace. Obama's administration, with the aid of duplicitous politicians and a deceitful media, would make every American citizen a terrorist requiring take down, one way or another. Ratings!

380 Everything we know about everything comes to us from the news media, everything they know comes to them from their sources.

Do you trust your government?

Health care is now completely controlled by your government. The government will decide how much money they will take from you for 'health insurance'. The government will decide how much they will pay medical professionals to provide healthcare, what healthcare will be provided, and who gets it.

Most importantly, once the government has taken what money it wants from those who have more than they need, the government can then spend that money however it chooses.

From each according to ability to pay, to each according to need.

Poor people don't get money, they get government services; health care, housing, food.

Welcome to your future.
